Solid FOUR Stars
Charity Ferrell delivers big with Sinful Ruin, book two in her Lucky Kings series! This captivating Best Friend’s Brother, Fake Fiancé, Mafia Romance throws Julian Bellini and Genesis 'Gen' Astor into a complex, high-stakes journey.
Julian, a Lombardi Mafia killer, usually just tolerates his sister's sassy bestie. But when Dima Morozova sets his sights on Gen, Julian steps in with a bold plan for an heir. That's when their unexpected story truly ignites!
While it hits all show more the expected mafia romance notes, what stands out is the fantastic character development for both Julian and Genesis as their relationship builds. Julian's dangerous world constantly challenges them, forcing an uphill battle full of intense back-and-forth and obstacles.
This book is an adventure! Expect action-packed mafia thrills, emotionally charged angst, and constant suspense in this well-crafted hate-to-love, slow-burn. Seeing Genesis bring Julian to his knees was definitely a highlight, as was watching them find each other through it all.
Bonus: This can easily be read as a standalone! I hadn't read Book 1, but still fully enjoyed Sinful Ruin without feeling lost.
Sinful Ruin is a strong addition to the Lucky Kings series. I'm already eager for Emilio’s book, Sinful Hearts!

This was a DNF for me. I loved the blurb, and thought it was going to be a good mafia story. It might have ended up being one, but 15 chapters in, and I just can't go on. Genesis is the most annoying FMC I have read in a long time. She sees her dad end himself, has the Russian mob threatening to take her to pay his debt, and is instead, saved by her best friends brother. Is she thankful? Absolutely not. She never shuts up. She had absolutely NO ROOM to be negotiating, but there she is show more anyway. She fights Julian at every turn. And he's no saint, but she knew who he was before this whole fiasco started. I'm sorry, I hate to give bad reviews. I only have so much time to read, and I'm not going to force myself to finish something I don't enjoy. I would absolutely give this author another read though, I enjoyed her writing style, just not the character.

I knew the moment I read the blurb, I wanted to read this book. A character who sits on his porch half naked and his neighbor's response is f*ck off. I love spunky characters. Total hotties with perfect abs...oh, even better.
Chloe Fieldgain is the stereotypical quiet nerdy girl and has been since high school. What's worse is the fact that her boyfriend of five years is marrying the woman he cheated with...while he was engaged to Chloe. Oh and she lives in a small town--Blue Beech. EVERYONE show more knows what happened. Kyle freaking Lane, her arch-nemesis and sexy-as-hell next door neighbor continues his torment by saying good morning half naked ...every single morning. She has a secret that very few people know about.
Kyle Lane is Blue Beech's golden boy. He has been his entire life after all he's the mayor's son. He made one mistake with Chloe that ruined her reputation for the rest of their high school career and it unfortunately followed her after high school. He's had a crush on Chloe since they were little.
Can Kyle overlook Chloe's secret and the lies she has told to keep that secret? show less

I randomly picked this off of Hoopla just wanting a light and silly romance. I did not realize until I was a bit into the book that it was part of series for which I had read (or more accurately DNF'd) the rather bad first book, but by then I was a little engaged in it. Ferrell is still not much of a writer but I liked the story and the characters a whole lot more in this than the last. I still don't buy the rush of people happily packing up the truck and moving from LA to Iowa, but sure, show more let's say that could happen, that cheap real estate would seal that deal. It was what I wanted, light sweet, and hot, just like I like my herbal tea. show less
