Joseph and Chico is a picture book biography of Pope Benedict XVI as told by Chico, a cat who has known him his entire life. Which was my biggest issue with the book (and may be an issue with older children readers as well), because there is no way a cat can be that old! But it's a lovely book besides that and a good way to introduce the younger set to Pope Benedict.
I had been interested in this biography of Pope Benedict XVI for some time, so I had some high expectations before reading the book. The illustrations are beautiful, but the text unfortunately leaves something to be desired. It could be the translation--definitely cheesy. The overall story, however, is intriguing and sweet. I'd say this book is a little better for the younger kids, ages 4-9.
Pope Benedict XVI is my 1st pope and my favorite pope. I didn't know Pope John Paul II at all, really, and because of that I did not particularly care for him at all. For whatever reason I soon as Pope Benedict XVI came on the scene I immediately took to him. I really, really respect him.

This book is great. It is easy to read and enjoyable. I can totally see reading it to 2nd graders ... I'm looking forward to reading it to 2nd graders : )
