This book, changing weather storms is a great book for kids ages eight to ten, depending on their grade level and could possibly be used for younger kids with assistance. It includes pictures to represent the facts being discussed about storms and other topics such as precipitation and weather. Something I really like about this book is how it builds off of each topic. It starts with what is the weather? Then, dives into the topic of the water cycle. Following that, what are storms? And so show more on. It has a great way of taking one topic and expanding it into others, teaching students about individual topics within this whole idea. show less
I think this would be a great book to use as an introduction into different kinds of habitats for students. I believe there are also books from the same authors about different types of habitats that students could continue looking at or groups of students could look at one book and create a poster and present that book. I like that the book includes a lot of text support, including lots of pictures with labels on them for the plants and animals, bolding and explaining vocabulary words in show more the text, and showing various diagrams. This book is intended for students ages 5-8 and is at a reading level K. The DCI being explored in this book is life science since we are looking at a habitat. The CCC being explored in this book include cause and effect because the book talks about what plants and animals in the grasslands need to survive, and stability and change because it talks about wind and how their aren't hills or trees so the grass' roots need to be strong. show less
This book is intended for ages 5-9. Children will enjoy exploring the vast prairies of North America in this book. This informative book describes life in these grassy, treeless areas that are often subject to both periods of drought and great rain. Young readers will learn about: the different types of prairie habitats; how animals get the nutrients they need; and the fascinating adaptation some animals undergo to survive on the prairie.
