Another English translation of the Sefer ha- Zohar with commentary. This one was released before the first volume of the Pritzker edition was published. I get the impression however wrongly that this was meant to be the first volume of an edition of the Zohar in English, hence the subtitle " Bershit 1" that being the Hebrew title for Genesis.

The Pritzker Edition of the Zohar has the verses arranged in the traditional way as the appear in the Aramaic. There are some such as Rabbi Miller and show more the late Lubavitcher Rebbe who thought it would be a much better idea from the stand point of study to have the verses and commentary arranged according their traditional order of the verses in the Torah. I couldn't agree more! I'm sure in takes a great deal of Mental Discipline in order to get a grasp for the Zohar's commentary on the Torah as a whole by way of the ordinary ordering of the text.

As no further volumes appear to have been released to this date i fear that we have all we will be getting of Rabbi Miller's translation which I for one I feel is a shame.

My Amazon review 6/2/25] Kabbalistic 鈥渉ealing鈥 book: The Zohar is a Kabbalah (commentary on the Bible), said to be passed down from Adam. It is in Aramaic, from 8th Century BC. It was first disseminated in writing to the world at large in 1540. This pocket-sized edition starts at the back and is sort of read toward the front. The chapters are in reverse order; you start with the chapter in the back. It has 180 pages of the Zohar Pinchas in Aramaic, which is interesting to look at, but show more only of use to Aramaic speakers. The useful part for the non-scholar is the 26-page Preface in English, also repeated in Spanish. This contains the history of the Zohar, and how to use it to heal. An excerpt: 鈥淲hen we read from this portion of Pinchas, we draw down the Light of healing at the seed level so we can align every cell in our body with the consciousness of Light鈥︹ This book is for anyone interested in Kabbalistic practices, or who wants to practice their Aramaic.鈥擯ol show less
The book introduces ten attributes reflected in human anatomy which give shape to one's spirituality This book, along with the book, "Kabbalah" , have traditionally been known as the world's most esoteric sources of spiritual knowledge providing its principles to live by in harmony with the divine.
This book is a translation from the Latin of that portion of the Zohar that Christian Knorr von Rosenroth's completed before his untimely demise. To my knowledge this was the only extensive translation of any part of the Sefer ha-Zohar into English until the coming of the Soncino Press version.

This version is in fairly heavy Latinate English which will keep you reaching for your Latin Dictionary. Compared to more recent translations of the Zohar such as the incomplete Socino version and show more the translation in progress Pritzker Edition it is definitely a creature of it's time and place. show less
