With so many bad guys coming and going (including a clone of one of the main characters) this one was a bit more confusing than the last. Despite this it was still an interesting adventure and story. I did like the fact that where this story wound up sheds a lot more light on the events of the Kingdom Hearts II manga which I read totally out of sequence. It lacked the humor and extra Disney characters that Chain of Memories Vol. 1 had, but the darker and more dramatic storyline was enjoyable show more in its own way. Namine is an interesting character who you have to feel bad for even thought it appears she is responsible for a lot of Sora, Donald and Goofy's problems.
I'll now certainly have to re-read Kingdom Hearts II and move on with the series as a whole to find out where this all leads. show less

I love the Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2 games. I started Chain of Memories at one point but never finished it so it was nice to get the story from this manga. I loved being able to see more of the organization XIII characters in this manga because in KH1&2 they aren't focused on too much even though the organization is such a huge deal to the story overall. But the story is super complex with all of these side games so it's understandable to an extent.
I also loved how the manga tied in several show more moments that related to what would be happening in a video game gameplay wise and made those moments kind of comical, as if pointing out that if these things were just to happen in the story without the game they are kinda silly and don't make sense. It surprised me that they included these moments at all but they were some of my favorite parts that really made me laugh. And the characters were so well done, they acted just like how they always do in the games. The art is also great and is so reminiscent of the game art.
I think that even if people haven't played the KH games, they may not understand some of the things going on in this manga, but it does briefly describe what happens previously in the front of the book. If people have at least a general understanding of what the previous games were about though I think they could still find a lot of enjoyment with this. show less

This is a very cute, very amusing follow-up to the "Kingdom Hearts" manga series and video game which I am only slightly familiar with, but has always fascinated me. In this volume we find Sora, Donald, Goofy and Jiminy Cricket stuck in Castle Oblivion with waning memories of how and why they are there. However, the main goal of finding and freeing King Mickey and Riku from the darkness they sacrificed themselves to remains. As the gang continues further in they run into new (I think) show more opponents who are all very enigmatic.
Even without knowing the background in its entirety this was still a great quest fantasy story made even better by its humor, wonderful artwork (is it so wrong for me to think that Leon and Riku are just impossibly cute?) and, of course, appearances by a variety of Disney characters that I love. The plot relies heavily on ideals of friendship, loyalty and compassion which I really enjoy as well. There were a couple parts that even had me laughing out loud, such as Donald's "Blizzard" spell and trying to convince Jafar to become a genie ("will I have to go around nearly naked, like you?")
This is certainly one that I enjoyed a lot and is made even better because I can share with my 9 year old son about the story since he read it before I did. show less

After sampling the games, I got really into Kingdom Hearts. So yesterday, I curled up under my KH blanket and began to read. I had already started playing Chain Of Memories on my GBA, so I thought it would be interesting to read the manga version. I had already read Vol. 1 & 2 of the first Kingdom Hearts, so this manga seemed promising. It did not disappoint. I was smiling and laughing and left wondering what's going to happen next. Never a dull moment when Heartless are involved. =)
