Three Centuries of American Poetry by Allen Mandelbaum

As my old American poetry professor said on the first day of class, "I don't like this book, but I couldn't find any one better." But what can you expect from an anthology of poetry? For the most part, it is a bad experience reading poems in an anthology, disconnected from their brothers and sisters. I guess one could at least wish for some editorial commentary, but this sad book has none.
