I tried reading three other english translations of Quran and, while they meant well, the cultural notes or explanations actually crowded the text and/or forced the translators to alter meanings just to fit things on to pages. But this translation doesn't muddle around with extra features: Just a clear and classical toned translation of Allah's words. Simply presented, easy to read. First time reading Quran cover to cover and being able to finish without translation frustration.
Arabic, the most beautiful script in the world! And you get plenty of it here. The "actual" Qur'an is presented along with a translation that flows beautifully for easy reading. Lengthy notes on every page offer commentary. Overall a very good resource. The translation, however, leaves something to be desired in terms of faithfulness to the text. It is a very liberalized translation and the notes explain the Surahs anachronistically from a 21st Century Modernist perspective as if Muhammad show more could have ever meant some of the "meanings" The Meaning of the Holy Qur'an gives it. Not recommended for hardcore, in-depth study. show less
Not without its controversies but widely considered to be the best English language translation of the Qur'an. Maintains the repetitiveness and flowery language - along with the organization of chapters by length rather than by chronology, theme, or anything else even remotely logical - of the original Arabic, so it's a tough slog for any but a very dedicated reader. Invaluable as a reference book, however.
This book includes the Qur'an in English and Arabic along with a commentary. As translations go, I like this one. The Qur'an is often elliptical in its expression and this copy glosses in the elipses in parenthesis in the translation. There are also certain words that I often think are translated wrong in many editions, but as many as I have checked in this book they are correct. A lot of tears were poured into this work to get it right. I like the translation, and the commentary usually show more answers plausibly the questions I have. show less
