Short biography
Daughter of Roland Aloysius and Marie (Toomey) Madden. Married William Walter Adorjan, August 17, 1957. Since the publication of her first short story in l956, her articles, features, and short fiction have appeared in a variety of newspapers, trade, religious, national and literary magazines, here and abroad, including North American Review, Denver Quarterly, Redbook, Woman's Day.
Twenty of her children's books have been published.
Her first radio play won the l972 EARPLAY competition (University of Wisconsin). Subsequently, her radio plays have been produced by, among others, the BBC and The National Radio Theatre, whose production of her adaptation of The Sea Wolf won the l981 Ohio State Award.
Her stage plays have been produced in San Francisco, New York, and more. She was among the first playwrights given fellowships to the Midwest Playwrights' Lab under the direction of Dale Wasserman. Her play Bridges, won first prize in a University of Florida, Jacksonville, Competition, and was chosen as one of four for reading and development by The Drame League of New York.
She has been writer in residence for both the Illinois and Iowa Arts Councils and for The National Radio Theater. On the adjunct faculty of National-Louis University, Evanston, IL1990 - 1997.

Beth keeps getting paranoid about the house next door to the house she's moved into, but she keeps telling herself there are reasonable explanations. If only she could figure out what they are! She's also lonely and friendless in her new town while she waits for school to start. In the house where she's cat-sitting, cats are getting in and out, doors are opened and closed, things are moved around, and she can't figure out how it's all happening. Finally she finds out a local boy was also show more hired for cat sitting and she makes a friend. show less
This little girl is watching her sister do all these things that she is not yet able to do, although she is recognizing the things that she is able to do and is seeing the value in herself for being able to do those things.
A little girl who notice what she is capable of doing and what she not capable of doing.
