Little Crocodile celebrates their birthday from start to finish with friends and family. The joys and minor incidents (popping of a balloon) of a birthday party are celebrated with sounds, sights, and tastes.

This book has adorable illustrations that engaged my daughter as we read. The repetitive format allows for kids to engage and guess what is coming. This is a fun book to read aloud.

The scissors go snip, the decorations go whir whir, and the friends say "Happy Birthday!" as little Crocodile celebrates a birthday. The party is full of sounds, some are good as "the band goes oom pah pah," and others are not so good as "the balloon goes POP!" The adorably illustrated Crocodile and friends enjoy the party and are all worn out at the end. The colored pencil illustrations in this book bring a joyful simplicity to the book. Young children will have fun making the sounds heard in the book and discussing what other sounds they might hear in their own worlds. My one issue with the book is the use of the word "goes" to describe the sounds made and heard throughout the day. As I was reading the book, I found myself wishing for better grammar. If I were reading this to a young child, I would probably use the lovely illustrations to spark stories and conversations about sounds, birthday parties, friendships, SEL, and more, but I wouldn't rely on the text provided. ** I got this book through the LibraryThing Early Reviewer program, but all opinions are my own. Thank you to Tundra Books and Penguin Random House for the copy. ***

Absolutely fun book to read to a child or help them learn to read. The drawings are colorful and add to the story. The story moves along quickly. Truly an enjoyable book.

Full faith in advertising: I received this book as part of the LibraryThing Early Reviewers Program..

Although the illustrations were fun, the plot lacked growth and meaning. Children's books are all about learning, especially about story flow from the beginning, middle, and end. This read as an incomplete thought for children.

Crocodile is having a birthday party. All of his friends will attend. This book is fun to read and fun to make the sounds. The artistry is really good. This book packs a cute punch.

Adorable toddler-age animal characters celebrate a fun-filled birthday party for Little Crocodile. He is a young crocodile that loves to hear the sounds of all of the activities and things that are happening during his special party. From the sounds of the decorations going up to the sounds of the party goers "ooh, aahing" at the presents Little Crocodile receives, this book has all the sensory engagement through sounds that young babies up through kindergarteners love in stories. This book is a great book to read-aloud and have children repeat the sounds on each page with you! I would use this in my preschool lessons as a speech therapist and a teacher. In my opinion, children love to engage with characters that seem to be around their own age and the toddler-age animals in this story are exactly the perfect characters for preschool children to learn to love. This may be a book that becomes a "read it again" kind of story as parents will most likely be asked to read it several times before a child becomes tired of it.

This is a fun picture book for very young children, especially for those learning words for different sounds and activities. A little crocodile and their parent have a big day at the beach and a special evening at a campsite. The art is done in pastel chalk and pencils - just a sweet, simple story.

**Received as a finished copy from the publisher.

This was a pretty cute illustrated book for children, but it wasn’t as successful as I thought it would be. Montanari’s simple crayon illustrations are vibrant and playful, carrying readers through an eventful day in the life of a crocodile and its child, but the accompanying text is distinctly lacklustre. The pair wake up in their tent and journey to the beach, having a fantastic time in the sun with plenty of games, before going home to say goodnight to the day. This narrative should be full of adventure and fun, and it definitely matches that energy visually, but instead of narrating the story outright Montanari chooses instead to emphasise the various noise elements that accompany the pair’s journey. I am sure that reading this text would be fun for a child who wants to simply learn about and imitate the noises of the wide world, but I was disappointed not to have a more concrete story. Sound elements are a great way to engage young readers, but I feel like the book would have been far stronger if we had also gotten a chance to engage with the other senses as the story progresses or to make up our own story (and noises), sans text!

This is a very cute and fun book to read with the littles. My kids loved making the sound effects that went along with the story. This book is also simple enough for my kinder to read on her own and fun enough to keep her attention through it. The illustrations are soft and lovely. Great children’s book

This is a delightful read aloud picture book. The soft pastel illustrations tell the story of a full day of fun at the beach. The sparse text adds life to the activities of Big and Little Crocodile.

I'm thankful for the opportunity from LibraryThing Early Reviewers to read What Does Little Crocodile Say at the Beach? By Eva Montanari. The book was about a little Crocodile and his parent bring him to the beach. We enjoyed learning all the new sounds for each of the activities little Crocodile did. The hand drawn illustrations was so lovely and the color pallet was very appealing. The content on each page was appropriate amount and keep my sons interest. It was a very cute story and as soon as we completed it my son wanted "more".
Thanks again for the privilege to enjoy this awesome children book with my son.

This is a lovely children's book about the sounds things make at the beach. This was both written and illustrated by the author which is kind of a treat. I really loved the illustrations which appear to be created with colored pencils and pastels. This book would be a lot of fun to read aloud with young children because you can do all the sounds together.

A beautifully illustrated, whimsical picture book. The simple story and focus on common sights and sounds is ideal for reading to young children. This book has already become a firm favorite with my son.

(Full disclosure: I received a free copy of this book for review through Library Thing's Early Reviewers program.)

Just in time for summer comes the third installment of Eva Montanari's WHAT DOES LITTLE CROCODILE SAY. This time, crocodile and their family are visiting the beach, where they'll swim, build sand castles, play on the swing, and - naturally - cry up a storm when the sun disappears over the horizon and it's time to go home. (Don't worry: there's ice cream, grilled veggies, and star gazing to less the sting.) This is a cute picture book to teach K and pre-K readers (ages 2-5) about sounds.

As a retired teacher of young children, I was excited to receive this book. The pictures are colorful and the use of sound words is great. This book will appeal to very young children as well as young school age children, fun to read aloud. This book is one that instills a love reading at an early age!

We live in a coastal Florida town so I knew this book would be perfect for my beach loving kids. The words in the story flow together very nicely. The illustrations are very cute as well as beautiful. This story held the attention of my 3 and 5 year old. I definitely recommend this book to all parents!

Delightful book about a small crocodile's visit to the beach, with lots of examples of onomatopoeia for the younger child. And the whimsical illustrations perfectly match the text. This one is headed for my granddaughters!

"What Does Little Crocodile Say At the Beach?" is a cute picture book for very young children. The book describes what sounds various things make, in this case during a day spent at the beach: "The sunscreen goes squirt", "The wave goes splash". There are enough different sounds as well as some unique noises to make the book fun. Montanari's illustrations are simple yet engaging. This will be a fun book for parents to read to their little ones, especially if some finesse is added to the reading of the sounds. Children may also guess what noises particular things make, adding an interactive approach. The book is another successful endeavor by author Eva Montanari and a perfect follow-up to "What Does Little Crocodile Say At the Park?" Thanks to NetGalley, Penguin Random House Canada and Tundra Books for the ARC.

A cute story that labels everyday things and provides fun sound words that help describe them. Great for storytime where you ask questions or point to things. Ages 2 to 5

This book was simple and fun. The kids in story time would have a blast making all the sounds and actions. Plus, the illustration are soft and fell like the tiniest of totes with a warm hug. Loved this book, and it will make a great addition to any library.
