Lady Esme Vernley's two elder sisters are married, one to an industrialist and the other to a member of the aristocracy, now she's having her come out directed by her sister Rosemary who is quite snobbish.
Then she happens on Felix, Lord Pendlebury, who might be a lord but is also an industrialist and artist in glass and while she's attracted there are rumours about him that are discouraging, what she doesn't know is that he has worked for the Duke of Wellington a couple of times and some of his past has come back to haunt him. Including his cousin who had attacked her sister, not that she knows a lot about that.
Interesting complications. Interesting to see a Victorian era read. I thought a lot of the complications were quite realistic for the period and the way a girl would have been educated in the era.

As an insight into the work of Navvies in 1840's I am sure it is factually correct. However as a romance it is one of Mary Nichol's duds.
