Tudor/Historical Romance forced marriage in Name that Book (March 2016)

Reviews

The first few books in this series were romances. Then we have to book about the woman who only cares about herself and sex. That one doesn't even pretend to be romance. I don't know if this last book does or not, because I couldn't get past page 32 (and that was in the large-print version). I get that it's fantasy, and I'm fine with that, but when Carla is lying to her husband of 30 years, and taking off work so she can indulge in a BDSM weekend with a complete stranger, then, no, I'm out. Obviously, I have problem with sex or I wouldn't have made it this far in the series (or read all of Small's other books), but I don't want to read about people having sex just to be having sex. Especially if they're both married to other people. The other stories may be better. I don't care to take the time to find out. I'm reading Small's [b:Bond of Passion|10551153|Bond of Passion (The Border Chronicles, #6)|Bertrice Small|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1348244851s/10551153.jpg|15457787] right now, and as that one actually has a storyline, I'll be finishing it.… (more)

I kind of wish I was reading this on the Kindle so I could search how many times "plain" is used. I wouldn't be surprised if it averages once per page. At least. Just in case we weren't aware that Annabella is plain. And I'm not sure "afterglow" was in use in the 1500s. Did I mention that Annabella is plain?

Actual romance, not one of the books in this series that is about crazy women. Some of the dialogue was a little weird, though, like Ms. Small stepped out for a minute and someone else typed a few lines while she was gone. But that was just a couple of spots.

This was a pleasant change from the other books in this series. I love Small's books, but I don't like that in many of her books, a main character dies. No one important died in this book. I didn't think the 10 days with the sisters was necessary. It didn't add anything to the story except a way to include more sex. I don't have a problem with sex as long as there's some reason for it to be there. Basically, the author just had Fin commit adultery, with not one, but two whores, who could have given him any number of diseases to take back to his wife. Adultery in a romance novel is bad enough, but this was adultery with absolutely no point. That's why I gave this book 4 stars instead of 5.… (more)
