I really enjoyed the first part of the book. His determination and hard work to make it in the music business was admirable. Even when some people told him he wasn't any good, he kept focused on his goal.
The last part of the book disappointed me though. He spent so much time away from his family. His wife begged him to come home, and he really missed his family, but business was good. He likes to brag about his "family values" in the book, but it sounded like he left the business of running his family entirely to his wife. The almighty dollar was more important to him.… (more)

A bit repetitive, but very interesting from the standpoint of looking back on a past that is now gone. Mr Welk truly loved the United States of America and believed in it. This was the 1970s and there was still some pride about being an American and a belief in hard work and moral values. I believe that world has disappeared now, and indeed, Mr. Welk cautioned that if we did not pursue strong work ethics and moral values and thank God daily for our blessings that we would be on the road to ruin.
I am glad Mr. Welk did not live to see today's world, for in ruin we lie.
