I don't recall a precise date being given for this series, but it is definitely the Georgian era. Ottilia Draycott, the main character, decribed as being in her late twenties, was widowed by the Battle of Monmouth (June 28, 1778), so it is probably not much later than 1788. Ottilia, both out of boredom and a desire not to be a burden on her brother, whose two sons she has been raising, takes a job is as a temporary companion to the Dowager Marchioness of Polbrook, while the regular companion Tess Mellis recovers from a broken leg. The series opens with the murder of Emily, Marchioness of Polbrook, with her husband as the most obvious suspect. In the process of solving the case, she and Lord Francis Fanshawe, the Marquis's younger brother, fall in love and marry, hence her nickname, Lady Fan. (English, Unclassified)
