This is my first post to this group so apologies if I get this wrong.

I added this book to my catalogue over the weekend.

When you go to the book page it shows as correctly combined with the other editions of that work and with 38 members owning that work.

When you look at the book in my catalogue (it's in the wishlist collection) it shows as no other members owning that work.

When I click on the author page and series page I don't see the little ticks to show the book is in my catalogue nor does the author page have the message to say that I own x books by this author.

I thought at first it might be a combining or caching issue (I did combine some of the author's works before I added my book) so I gave it a couple of days but nothing seems to have changed.

This has happened with a couple of other books I added over the last couple of weeks, but in those cases adding the book again and then deleting the first attempt seemed to work. It didn't help with this book.

Any ideas?

The book page doesn't actually show you having the book, and I can't find it in your catalog. Are you sure you actually added it?

2> The book page doesn't show it, but the link provided for souloftherose's catalog does show it being in their catalog:

http://www.librarything.com/catalog.php?view=souloftherose&searchall=1&d...

So it seems something weird is going on.

Maybe I just encountered the same bug ?

I just combined the French and German editions of this book: http://www.librarything.com/work/3026055/, however I am no longer listing in its owners on the book page (which displays the green “add this book” button), and the book does not appear as owned on the author page.

In the “your books” tab it is still listed as mine, and clicking on it leads me to a slightly different page: http://www.librarything.com/work/3026055/book/54496047 , where the book is listed as mine.

I sort of remember running into a similar problem before but cannot remember how I solved it.

I was going to ask if this isn't the Black Hole problem, but it doesn't seem to be. Also, verification that clicking on the Tolkien book in souloftherose's catalogue takes me to the work page where souloftherose isn't listed on the members with this book section. Very strange.

4: Kuiperdolin - I don't see you listed on the Recently Added By section. And it says there are only 3 people with the book. There are three names, but none are you. However, I do see the "Book Details" box that lists your name... but that can be spoofed weird if you add the "book/#" to a non-matching "work/#", I believe.

I am an idiot, I wasn't looking at All Collections. Apologies, souloftherose.

Note: the work number that shows up at the top of the page is different from the one the link (in the catalogue) points to.

http://www.librarything.com/work/1136177/book/66269030

http://www.librarything.com/work/6752206/book/66269030
Looks like maybe a combination that only half took.

8brightcopy
Nov 2, 2010, 12:59 pm

7> To add to that, here is the url in the catalog followed by the URL of the work:

http://www.librarything.com/work/6752206/book/66269030

http://www.librarything.com/work/1136177/details/66269030

The first link does properly forward to the second, but I agree that it does seem weird that it wouldn't just have the second link all along. Does seem like a bit of a canary in the coal mine.

#6 No problem, lorax.

#7"Looks like maybe a combination that only half took"

I did wonder about that because I combined some of the author's works before adding the book to my catalogue.

When I click on the url in my catalogue it actually takes me to this page

http://www.librarything.com/work/book/66269030

where this is no work number at all (although the url from the catalogue is http://www.librarything.com/work/6752206/book/66269030 as brightcopy says).

I appreciate everyone looking into this for me.

Sorry for the confusion. I was including the work number so that people would notice they were different.

keristars : but that can be spoofed weird if you add the "book/#" to a non-matching "work/#"

To be clear, I did'nt add anything ; that's how my catalogue links to the book.

12: Right, I wasn't saying that you did anything. I was just trying to point out that having the box with your name and details on the book page didn't necessarily mean that you were attached to the work, because of the way the urls work, particularly if you're not listed in "members with this work". :)

Same problem, again, with : http://www.librarything.com/work/10159279 (working as GustaveFlaubert from the legacy library project). Combining the works removes "me" from its owners.

Another, possibly related problem.

I have two copies of Asterix in Britain in my catalogue.

1) http://www.librarything.com/work/18534/book/65082686 added recently, no problems

2) http://www.librarything.com/work/18534/book/55336641 shows up in my catalogue (http://www.librarything.com/catalog.php?author=goscinnyrene&view=souloftherose&collection=-1&shelf=list&sort=dateread&sort=dateread) fine (correct cover etc) but on the book page is shown as No title.

Also when you're on the book page for copy #1, it doesn't show the other edition I have in the book information box.

Copy #2, which is the 'broken' copy was originally added back in January and there were no problems with the entry until recently.

Does anyone know what's going on?

ETA: When I go to the work multiples section of my statistics/memes page it correctly lists both copies. (http://www.librarything.com/profile/souloftherose/stats/workdups)

Worse, when I click through to the book pages for the books listed on the work duplicates page, one of the two books listed as the same problem (no title, no cover etc). Eeek!

Both are showing up as with a title for me. Where do you think they aren't.

Ah. Got it. Fixing one problem I created another. Re-fixed.

19souloftherose
Nov 6, 2010, 3:15 pm

This still shows up with no title/cover for me

http://www.librarything.com/work/18534/book/65082686

And the same with one copy of all my other work duplicates.

20souloftherose
Nov 6, 2010, 3:16 pm

If I sign out the book page looks fine but when I'm signed in I get the No title/no cover problem.

21Kuiperdolin
Nov 6, 2010, 4:03 pm

I hate to bring bad news but there are still problems. http://www.librarything.com/work/3026055 displays fine now but looking at the author page http://www.librarything.com/author/monteilhethubert&norefer=1 I don't see it as marked, and it still tells me "you have 2 books by this author" (it would be the third).

And http://www.librarything.com/work/10159279/book/43309992 still has the "2-number syndrome" and does not appear to be owned by member GustaveFlaubert.

I thank and commend you for being at the wheel on a week-end but I still would not call the problem fixed.

22souloftherose
Nov 6, 2010, 4:47 pm

And the problem I mentioned in post #1 is still not fixed either

This work http://www.librarything.com/work/1136177 is in my catalogue but I don't show up in the list of members with that work or on the author page.

23souloftherose
Nov 6, 2010, 4:51 pm

But the bug in msg 15 is now fixed - thank you!

24timspalding
Nov 6, 2010, 4:53 pm

Try now, sorry.

25souloftherose
Nov 6, 2010, 4:56 pm

Tim, I've probably confused things with msg #15 which I realise now was a separate bug and so I should have started a new thread.

The bug mentioned in msg #15 is fixed - thank you!

The problems Kuiperdolin and I are experiencing (see msg #1, #4, #14 & #21) is still a problem. Seems to be a problem with combining somehow?

26hdcclassic
Nov 7, 2010, 11:58 am

...ran into a similar problem with A Woman of No Importance.
Author page and e.g. recommendations acts if I don't have it:
http://www.librarything.com/work/1617454

But I still show in "recently added" list and it is my collection:
http://www.librarything.com/work/1617454/book/66128522

27souloftherose

Changed status to reopened because the original bug posted in msg #1 and confirmed by other members in msgs #4 and #26 still seems to be a problem.

Nov 8, 2010, 5:06 am

Ok, #26 is cleared now. Thanks, whoever did it :)

#29 Yep, mine's still not fixed - I feel all left out now :-(

Nov 16, 2010, 2:30 pm

Hello ! s'me again !

So, I was combining one of my new books and guess what...

http://www.librarything.com/work/10290099/book/66694630

Same symptoms, has not changed in a couple days.

32Kuiperdolin
Nov 17, 2010, 2:39 pm

I "fixed" it by de-combining and re-combining the works. Still annoying.

33souloftherose
Edited: Nov 28, 2010, 5:38 am

It's happened again:

This book http://www.librarything.com/work/3947494/book/52293066 is in my catalogue but I'm not showing up in the list of members who own a copy or on the author/series page.

Again, it happened after I combined my edition with some other editions.

ETA: This one fixed itself after separating and recombining.

34souloftherose
Apr 1, 2011, 1:18 pm

And it's happened again after combining some editions of the same work.

This book http://www.librarything.com/work/10959964/book/53527563 is in my catalogue but I am not showing among the user names on the work page http://www.librarything.com/work/10959964.

Author page says I have 14 books and 14 works, my catalogue has 15 books and 15 works.
