I am eighteen and live in Idaho, USA. Up until i was 16 i lived in a small town in California but moved becuase my parents wanted to. I hated living in Idaho because it was a city, I missed my family and friends back in Cali, there are no trees and it is flat. I cryed for a year almost everynight.

I love animals and I am in college studying vet tech(still in highschool though). I want to work at an animal sanctuary. I have two dogs, one cat, and just got 11 baby chicks today. (I used to have eight goats but had to give them away when I moved.)

Sooo thats me.
dont know if that was totally boring to read or not but o well.

About me: Cool! Well I'm Sarah I live in Minnesota. I love to read, swim, play sports, draw, and be with friends. I'm fourteen going to highschool next year. When I'm older, I want to go to med school and study to be a surgeon or doctor.

Pets: I have a cat named George (I used to have another named Fred), a dog named Buddy, and another dog named Mongo. I also have a little brother and sister. (ages 9 and 13)

#2- coolio mariah! and no i promise it wasnt boring!

#3- cool, sarah hahahaha we have the same name!

Me: well i heard somewhere that you arent supposed to put your age online or location so i wont sorry to be a downer :(. but!

I have a younger brother, and a dog named outlaw who is just learning how to fetch at age 2... I am still in school, but i would love to go to harvard on scholarship, and become a pediatrician. I love little kids and envy people with really little siblings :)

I love soccer, basketball, singing, acting, and dance. I also love to read and do creative writing, though most things nonfiction bore me. I have the best friends ever, and also the best teachers, so i will be sad for the end of school this year.

I have started many stories and hope to (maybe) publish them sometime. I am very sorry if this is ridiculously long, so i hope someone will read it! :)

I am a teenager. That's all I'll say about my age and as for my location, I'll just say that it's somewhere in the United States. Eris isn't my real name either (aren't I so mysterious?.

But I can say that I love writing and reading, and that I check out far too many books from the library. I want to join the Marine Corps when I come of age, I like dramatic music, I adore Sherlock Holmes and Harry Potter, and I am a huge fan of Classical literature.

I don't like being told what to do, I am stubborn, an independent thinker, and I get into far too many arguments with people. My favorite movies are The D.I. and Battle L.A.

That's it.

52OrientalCherry

Sarah,

Because I want to serve my country, and I am still pissed about 9/11. I've adored the Marine Corps since I was a little girl, and I've got family in it. I want to join because it's the right thing to do, in my mind.

Told you I wans't lying when I said I was part-Gryffindor! :)

Does anyone enjoy reading cookbooks or like watching cooking shows??

67ErisofDiscord
Dec 9, 2011, 9:12 pm

Oh, God, when my family had television for a few months (we stopped, due to the high price and the crap on TV), all we watched was the Food Network! I adore Alton Brown, and my favorite shows were Ultimate Recipe Showdown and Chopped.

I also love cooking, although it is particularly difficult for my family, as all of us are allergic to gluten (a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye). So we have to be very creative with any recipe requiring flour. However, it has opened our diet up to things we didn't know about before, such as quinoa (a grain that was raised by the Aztecs!) and besan (which is Indian). All in all, it hasn't been too bad, considering that we've cut the biggest food group out of our lives.

68mrmcfluff
Dec 9, 2011, 10:36 pm

Wow that I so awesome!!

To be honest chopped is my favorite show on the planet. I love how some of the ingredients that were in the baskets were complete insane. For example, the chefs had to make an entree using rattlesnake, gingerbread, and garlic. So awesome!!

69ErisofDiscord
Dec 9, 2011, 11:31 pm

I am just dying to talk about this! I just came back from seeing Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (cool movie, by the way - loved all the chess references) and a DARK KNIGHT RISES TRAILER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EPIC, EPIC!!!!!!!!!!! OH MY GOD!!!!!!!! BANE LOOKS FREAKING AWESOME! YAYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!

Okay, now I've gotten that out of my system, here's a recap. Anne Hathaway looks gorgeous as Selina Kyle and is much prettier than Rachel. Bane looks pretty imposing and the Bane Chant is freaky. You don't really see a lot of Batman, but a lot of Bruce Wayne, but the Batman you do see is in hand to hand combat with a mob in the streets of Gotham. I'll say more but that will spoil it. The trailer should be on the internet in a couple of days.

I have never been more psyched about a trailer.

Tell me about sherlock Holmes!!
As good as the first one??

93ErisofDiscord
Dec 16, 2011, 11:40 pm

Yes! I actually enjoyed it just as much as the first. Moriarty was excellently played and a match for Sherlock Holmes. The ending was very suspensful for me, even though, as a die-hard Holmes fan, I knew what was coming. The main female, a Gypsy fortuneteller named Sim, didn't really add anything to the plot, but at least that meant that the movie included gypsies more often (which means awesome gypsy music in the soundtrack!). All in all, I enjoyed it. The movie definitely has humor and the friendship between Holmes and Watson is good.

So, yeah, I had fun! It wasn't the Sherlock Holmes of the books, but since I don't expect it to be, I liked it a lot! I am looking forward to Sherlock Holmes 3. :)

My favorite disney movie though is Mulan or Peter Pan

Yeah! Mulan all the way! She's my absolute favorite Disney princess and my favorite Disney movie. Next comes Tangled (or Beauty and the Beast - I can't make up my mind. I'll go with Tangled). I love Tangled so much! That's another reason why I want to go see BB in 3D - there is a Tangled short before the movie. :)

I'm not fond of 3D myself. Gives me an eye-ache. I mostly want to go for the thrill of seeing one of my favorite videos on the big screen!

However, I have had some tips on how to watch 3D - apparently I am straining my eyes too hard and I have to relax them. Oh, well, I'll see if that works.

What is Brave about??

149ErisofDiscord
Jan 15, 2012, 3:12 am

Courtesy of Wikipedia, the official description:

"Since ancient times, stories of epic battles and mystical legends have been passed through the generations across the rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland. In Brave, a new tale joins the lore when the courageous Merida confronts tradition, destiny and the fiercest of beasts. Merida is a skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus and Queen Elinor. Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin, surly Lord MacIntosh, and cantankerous Lord Dingwall. Merida’s actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric old Wise Woman for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to discover the meaning of true bravery in order to undo a beastly curse before it’s too late."

i like the movie but i would have liked to see some of the details they left out like the hunting scenes and the time where katniss blacked out after destroying the food. they also left out the kiss with gale and several other things. i thought the movie itself was good but it didnt do the best justice to the book

236Mariah7
Apr 27, 2012, 12:01 am

i didnt mind the things that were left out. the only thing that i wish they did different was showing or telling?..............how hungry they really were and how they had to fight everyday to eat. and once they got on the train they ate until they were sick.
i know its a little thing but yea. haha

237mrmcfluff
Apr 27, 2012, 5:53 pm

What stuck out to me while i was watching it was how fast katniss found water. There was at least an entire chapter where she couldn't find water. In the movie it was like "Oh cool there is a pond right here."

238ErisofDiscord
Apr 27, 2012, 6:24 pm

I don't mind that, actually. Because in the book, if she was that desperate for water, Katniss could've just drank her own piss, rather than freaking out about not finding water. Piss is pretty sanitary, and in the game of survival, it's often necessary.

May 22, 2012, 4:52 pm

Indeed. I think that that would be a good idea and that the sign of true friendships ( even cyber-ones) is that you can argue and still like each other. Although, fair warning, I do have a nagging tendency to always think I am right to the point of insanity... :)

I want to remain neutral on this discussion because of freedom of speech and everything. But i don't want to see this group turn into a full on debate. Maybe we shouldn't push the boundaries of the internet, but if people do want to start a political thread I won't stop anyone.

256Thwaite

257justjukka
May 28, 2012, 5:20 pm

With the agreement of being civil, and recognizing each other as real, living and breathing human beings (not just a faceless wall of text), we could have threads to foster these discussions. We need to understand that we won't always agree, and make sure we know who's part of the group and who isn't. We'll always have the wandering troll whose sole purpose is to cause trouble.

Well, since there seemed to be some interest (and also because I wanted to), I went ahead and started a 'test' debate thread. I figure we can nuke the thread if it turns ugly.

As an aside: I'm seriously jealous of all the people who've seen the Avengers. :( The theaters here are in a sad state of affairs, and I will likely not get to see the Avengers until it hits DVD/iTunes.

You live in Jerusalem????? I am insanely jealous!!!! Thats really neat! If it's not to personal, are you Jewish, Muslim, Christian, what??

265Thwaite
Jun 4, 2012, 5:36 pm

I'm agnostic, and not Jewish ethnically, either. And to anyone who feels jealous of me, don't be: I do not like living in this city at all. This is a very difficult place for people who do not belong to the main religions practiced here. I thought growing up in the Bible Belt had prepared me for Jerusalem, and boy was I wrong.

266: You'll find that everywhere. The trouble is, when we've lived somewhere our whole lives, we're unwilling or incapable of seeing it. Someone in Small Town, AnywhereButHere may drool over the prospect of visiting or evening living in London, while the Londonite (do they call themselves that?) would like nothing more than to escape to Small Town, AnywhereButHere.

Flan: Yep, and the religious folks who spit, hiss, and throw rocks at my friends and me because we're not dressed "modestly" enough (ie, according to their sect's rules) never let me forget about all the religion. Southern Baptists may have knocked on my door every once in a while, but they never did that to me. I wrote about it a little here.

Plus, what Rozax said.

I don't know the full extent of what ArmyAngel is talking about, but I don't think it's Christians. Christians are not in the majority in Jerusalem.

271Thwaite
Jun 5, 2012, 5:51 pm

No, not Christians. Ultra-Orthodox Jews (spitting and stone-throwing) and Muslims (hissing). Google Beit Shemesh for more details.

The hissers have always made me giggle. Granted, I've never had to deal with them. I'd probably be just as annoyed with them as I was of the cat-callers when I was on a study course in Ecuador.

In current news, my sister-in-law has this fun picture of Venus crossing between Earth and the sun, using the binocular method. The circle is the sun, and the fleck in the bottom right is Venus.

She took a pair of binoculars, pointed them at the ground, and looked at the image that was projected there. I think that was how Rozax did it. It's like burning leaves with a magnifying glass.

Hey everyone,

I have a random question for the group. But it is extremely important.
Has anyone seen the new Batman movie?

279ErisofDiscord
Jul 25, 2012, 10:40 pm

Nope, but hopefully I'll be going to see it tomorrow. My brother and I were going to see it on opening day, but in light of the horrific shooting in Aurora, it didn't seem appropriate.

My prayers go out to all of the victims of the Aurora shooting and their families. No person should ever have to go through the living hell they went through.

Anyway, I'm Ares, Eris' brother. It's taken me a while to comment on this thread (I'm a member of it, but I've always been a little afraid to comment on it), but I figured I might as well introduce myself.

Jul 26, 2012, 11:04 am

Eris, can you find me a good link to learn about the victims? All I could find was stuff about the medical bills and stuff.
#281: How did you know that?

Jul 26, 2012, 11:41 am

Here are all the victims, with links to a lot of news stories that show who the victims were: http://michellemalkin.com/2012/07/21/commemorating-the-victims-not-the-aurora-mo...

Here's another link that gives tribute to each victim: http://hotair.com/archives/2012/07/23/auroras-victims-learning-who-we-lost/ That wasn't where I learned that four of the men who died were shielding their girlfriends (it was everywhere on the blogs), but it says right at top, in Jonathan Blunk's tribute.

The music is the Netherlands is the same as in the USA but some people listen to dutch music here. My favorite song to play on the guitar? Uhmm... I guess that has to be "Blackbird" by the Beatles, but I also love playing "Youth" by Daughter. Are there many people from different countries here?

#321 No way! Blackbird is the song on guitar I played during my first recital! It's such a show stopper and everyone loves it. I how cool to listen to some serious dutch music everyday. I am a huge country/western fan, which is so American.

Dec 28, 2013, 11:14 pm

#322 Speaking of country, Keith Urban is from Australia if I am not mistaken. We have our first Aussie! So do you guys do Aboriginal dancing in Australia? Or more "Mermaid dancing" like in "Pitch Perfect"?

325amy.e.n
Dec 30, 2013, 1:26 am

Not very long, about 10 weeks roughly! I've been learning chords and how to play a riff at school and seeing as i had an acoustic guitar at home, i decided to try and play it for fun and teach myself more :)

To mrmcfluff2:
Yes, keith urban is from Australia. Wow, i can't believe i'm the only australian! Most people don't do aboriginal dancing but there are probably a few companies or groups of aborigines that perform and do aboriginal dancing either for fun, to respect, recognise and continue the traditions of their elders or both. I don't think anyone does mermaid dancing but some people might try and imitate Rebel Wilson for fun!

326mrmcfluff2
Dec 30, 2013, 11:55 am

I hope you fall in love with guitar! It's not a demanding instrument which forces you to play everyday, which is good because it keeps you entertained even if you don't practice frequently. I just got "Pitch Perfect" for Christmas so mermaid dancing was on my mind.
