Welcome to my sixth thread for 2011.

Calling this thread my "Reading Life" is somewhat misleading at the moment since I'm just about to embark on an almost year long health journey to treat my recently diagnosed breast cancer and reading has taken a backseat to learning all I can about what will be happening to me.

One of the things I've been doing to prepare myself is listening to guided imagery meditation CDs which always have you picture someplace you love and feel safe. The following picture is one of those places. It's a picture of the Boise River from the greenbelt near my house.

Here! Hanging around, thinking happy thoughts.

I love the photo. I have tons of family from the Boise area. My mom grew up in Caldwell and her brothers and their families live in Eagle, Meridian, Boise. I have spent some happy days floating down that river with my cousins.

Hi Jenn, Anne, Peggy, Joanne, Lucy, Claudia, Bonnie, Lynda, Ilana, Donna and Mark! I actually have some book news--although it's audio book news. I checked out all the recommendations I got on my last thread to see what my library had and put the following on hold:

The Daughter of Time by Josephine Tey (narrated by Derek Jacobi)
The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman (narrated by the author)
Montana 1948 by Larry Watson (narrated by Beau Bridges)
Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen (narrated by Flo Gibson)

Alot of the others they had but not by the narrators that were recommended. One I was really looking forward to was the next Louise Penny I want to read (which is The Cruelest Month). Unfortunately, no library in my system had ANY audio versions of this book let alone one by the highly recommended Ralph Cosham (sp?).

I plan to pick up all these audios on Tuesday or Wednesday and get them loaded onto my iPhone so I'm all set for the hospital and recovery at home.

I am sending the audiobook suggestions to my daughter who is looking for something to listen to on the way to work in the morning. Something not too heavy or depressing to start her day. Thanks to you for asking and the others for responding! :)

#12 I guess I am the fourth from the right (back row) next to Lucy. Because this group is magical, you have a good idea of what I looked like in my twenties.... dark hair, a bit shorter than most, skinny, belly button sticking out (tube tops and hip huggers) and wearing lots of pink (still do, but belly is completely covered now). lol

Hi Everyone, this may be the last time I post before the surgery. I have to be at the hospital by 6:30 tomorrow morning and am going to try to get to bed early tonight. All of your love and support and the relaxation CDs (as well as the occassional Xanax) have been keeping me pretty calm although I'd be less than honest if I didn't admit to losing it a couple of times.

Linda (Whisper1) has kindly agreed to keep everyone posted about how the surgery and early recovery goes. My understanding is that the most annoying part of the recovery is not being able to easily use the arm where the lymph nodes are removed for several days after the surgery so I'm not sure when I'll be posting again for sure.

Like I said before, I've been imagining all of you there with me tomorrow wishing me well and it's been a wonderful thing not to feel alone going through this process.

I'm very much looking forward to being back on LT and telling you how great things are going.

Hello Everyone

I connected with Pat a few minutes ago. She sounds amazingly well. Her voice is strong. Her attitude is very positive and her pain level is zero. She is taking pain medications every four hours and it is helping a great deal.

There is a normal "I cannot believe this happened" reaction. She is glad to be home in her own environment where she can rest and relax.

We will be connecting again in the next few days and I'll keep you posted. I told her that we are all routing for her and that there are so many who are sending good wishes, prayers and love. The band of mighty warriors continues to hold her in our hearts.

Here is a copy of a communication from Pat that she posted on the patient/Partner project website/email:

Hi Everyone. I got home just after 2:00 today and am feeling remarkably well. Of course, I am on pain medication and have been staring at the football game on TV because the colors are so pretty. But all kidding aside, everything went much better than I expected. The biggest problem I had was trying to get some sleep in the hospital last night with people checking my vitals or giving me medication every couple of hours. I’m really looking forward to getting a good night’s sleep at home tonight.

My medicated brain is blanking on anything else to say at the moment so I will have to post more later.

Thanks for all your love and good wishes. They really helped in making this a relatively easy experience.

Hi Everyone! Today went well. I took a shower and then Mike and I took our dog for a walk in our favorite park. It doesn't sound like much but it was more than I expected to be able to do two days after surgery. I feel almost no pain but I am taking those pain pills every four hours so I'm sure that's why. In a day or two I'm hoping to start tapering off them (they're hydrocodone which is a narcotic). They make me feel out of it and sleepy but luckily not nauseous which is a common side effect. Also, I can't drive while I'm taking them and that will probably start to feel restrictive pretty soon.

All in all, I'm very happy with how things went and am partly convinced it was because of my relaxation tapes and my "magical band of allies" so I'm all over them now and have been listening to the ones on healing after surgery and fighting cancer. Hopefully, I will move on soon to some of my audio books so I'll actually have some book news to report. :)

Hope you all had a good weekend. Mine was much better than expected!

So glad that you're back on your feet and ready to move onward in combat!! Also relieved that being pain free doesn't mean you're battling nausea constantly... Don't push yourself and try to cut out the pain pills so quickly that you're in more pain than you need to be. The docs are all hyper-vigilant about not over-prescribing, so they're not going to let you become an addict. Be a superhero, by all means, but not about tolerating pain!

Sending hugs.

I'm in awe of you! It is wonderful that you are here so soon and that you are feeling well enough to take a walk. I have a tendency to 'overdo' so I think the counsel about allowing the pain pills to do their magic and resting and generally treating yourself very gently is important.

You guys are so great. I love all your visits and kind words.

I continue to do well. I'm tapering off the pains meds slowly. Yesterday and today I spaced them 5 hours apart instead of 4 with no noticeable difference.

I've done a walk each of the last 3 days and even got on the exercise bike for 10 minutes today. Tomorrow I'm going to a relaxation class with some good friends. My SiL (one of those good friends) found a yoga teacher she really liked a couple of months ago who just happens to teach relaxation classes to cancer patients at one of the local hospitals and she decided to start teaching one for cancer patients and their caregivers at her home which is about 5 minutes away from me. It seems like it will be perfect for this stage of my treatment and I'm looking forward to getting out of the house to do something new.

I started the audio version of The Help yesterday. A friend had it out of the library and had finished it so she dropped it off for me. It's the version that Ilana recommended and I'm really enjoying it.

Since I haven't been doing a whole lot that's about all I have to report. Thanks again for all the visits!

Here is a message from Pat:
It’s been a week since I’ve been home from the hospital and things seem mostly back to normal. I ended up clearing my schedule for this week because I thought I wouldn’t feel like doing anything but that turned out not to be the case. Mike and I have taken walks with the dog every day, I went to a new yoga/relaxation class, had a massage, got together with friends, and went to a Breast Cancer Symposium put on by the Susan G. Komen Foundation in Boise.

The main thing I have to work around is the pain medication schedule. I’ve been tapering off them so every other day I’m taking a pill at a different time and approximately an hour afterwards, I’m off to slumberland. I must say they promote excellent sleep! Mike has been very good about driving me around since that’s something I can’t do while I’m taking them.

Next week we see the oncologist to discuss when I’ll start chemotherapy. She said it could be as early as two weeks after surgery depending on how I’m healing and since that’s been going well, I’m assuming I may start pretty soon.

All in all, it’s been a good week. Hope you’ve all been doing well too!

143LizzieD

Hi Everyone. Thanks for stopping by. I must say I'm pretty amazed at how well this week went too. I didn't expect to be able to attend the Susan G. Komen Symposium because of the timing but was so glad I could.

I'm so impressed with the quality of services that are available to breast cancer patients in Boise. (To some extent, I think I'm still biased to think I won't find quality services out here. Probably need to get over that after living here for 4 years.) They have a free program at the Y for cancer patients that's affiliated with Lance Armstrong's LIVESTRONG program. You can workout one-on-one with a trainer or join small classes. All the staff for this program spent a year receiving training for it. There's also a small gym in Boise that specializes in training breast cancer survivors.

One of the things I was concerned about was not being able to exercise once I started treatment (and therefore gaining weight which is not a good thing when your cancer is fueled by estrogen, which mine is). Looks like there are a number of different things I can do during treatment so hopefully the weight gain issue won't be a big deal. I know I feel better when I exercise and there's alot of research that shows people do better during treatment and have less risk of recurrence if they exercise regularly. Hopefully, the oncologist will clear me to start exercising again soon. Right now, I'm still restricted as to how much range of motion I have in my right arm while the incision heals from the surgery.

I wish I could report that I've finished a book but I'm still flitting around starting things but then losing focus. The Help is good as an audio book but I'm going to have to return it to the library soon and don't expect to finish it in time. I also need to get back to Rebecca which I'm past the halfway mark in.

I ordered a small CD player from Amazon to listen to some of the other audio books I have out from the library (The Daughter of Time and Pride and Prejudice). Downloading them to my iPhone seems to take up alot of space (at least in terms of scrolling through everything looking for what I want) and the battery runs out too quickly to listen to them that way. The audio of Montana 1948 is also waiting to be picked up.

Hope you all have a good Sunday and Linda--I hope you have a wonderful Birthday!

Hi Guys. Things continue to go well with the recovery from surgery. I'm down to one pain pill as of today, plus some Advil, so I should be able to drive soon which will be nice.

There has been a big bump in the road however--the results of my surgical pathology report. I always knew I had cancer in at least a few of my lymph nodes and that my Level 1 and 2 lymph nodes (you have 3 levels of lymph nodes under the arm) would be removed during surgery as a result. The big shock was that all the lymph nodes removed had cancer in them. The odds therefore are that there is cancer elsewhere in my body even though the CT and Bone Scans didn't show anything. The hard truth about these tests is that they can't show things that are below a certain size. My oncologist said I could have a PET Scan to check for evidence of cancer elsewhere and I've scheduled that for next week. PET Scans are more sensitive but can still miss things (or show false positives) but I tend to want to know everything I can.

So for now, I'm preceding as though I will start chemo (probably the week of October 3rd). I went to the class they give you before starting and had a baseline test for my heart (because the chemo I'll be getting can damage your heart). The only thing that might change this is if the PET Scan does show more cancer. I'm not entirely clear what the treatment would be then but remember my oncologist saying something about starting me right away on hormone treatment since my cancer is so sensitive to estrogen.

Anyway, certainly not the news I was hoping for but what can you do. The bizarre thing is that I feel great so I'm still struggling with believing any of this is happening to me.

As always, thanks for all your visits and encouraging words. It really makes a big difference to me to see all the support I have and it definitely helps keep my spirits up.

Love you guys!

Sep 28, 2011, 2:26 pm

Well, I've had some time to adjust to the news about my lymph nodes plus the PET Scan went pretty well. It didn't show anything at all in the lungs, liver or bones (the normal places breast cancer spreads to). The only thing that popped up were two small spots above the right clavicle. Without doing more tests, they don't know if this is cancer or just part of the area affected by the surgery (which was on the right side). The doctor said a biopsy of this area is hard to do and the results might not be reliable. In any event, even if it is cancer, radiation and chemo should take care of it and they'll be watching it as my treatment progresses.

So, right now, I'm scheduled to start chemo on Friday, October 7th in the afternoon. This is not my ideal time to start but I do want to start next week so unless something else opens up, I'll go with it.

I asked if this changed the staging of my breast cancer and the doctor said no. Even if these two spots are cancer (and they don't know if they are), they're in the same local area. I never thought I'd be glad to have Stage III breast cancer, but in this context I am!

The other good news is that unless they can see cancer in other areas of the body, they consider it curable. There are no guarantees, but if the cancer is too small to be seen on these tests, there's a good chance they can eradicate it with chemo rather than just shrinking it.

So all in all, I'm feeling MUCH better and I'm hoping to get back into some good reading. Maybe I'll even have some book news for this thread soon. :)

Hello to my wonderful band of well-wishers!

Tomorrow is the big day--my first chemo--and I'm pretty calm about it considering I'm still not 100% convinced it's a good thing for my body but I'm getting there. Those relaxation tapes continue to be a godsend.

I've been engaging in a fair amount of retail therapy. I bought a wig, hats, and a scarf, some new shirts, new natural skin care products, and had a major shopping binge buying socks of all things. (One of my favorite things is Smartwool socks.)

I keep wanting to know what to expect from the chemo but all the doctors and nurses insist that everyone is different and I'll just have to wait and see. The only thing they say almost everyone experiences is fatigue. But it sounds like they pretty much have the nausea thing solved. I'm going to be getting 4 different anti-nausea drugs!

Mike will be with me tomorrow as well as a breast cancer volunteer who's been through the experience before. But I also feel like you'll all be there as well. When I was at the doctor's office last time they were giving out free magnets and I picked the one that says "Love Kills Cancer." In that case, I feel like I'm home free!

Today went much better than I expected!

The actual process of getting the chemo was pretty pleasant. They have "bays" for each patient which are sort of like a cubicle. There's a huge recliner for the patient and a chair for a guest plus a desk for the nurse. The recliner looks out on a huge picture window with a view of the mountains and the tree tops (it's on the 2nd floor). The other two "walls" are all wood cabinets one of which contains a television and a DVD player.

They put the IV behind me so I never really saw the actual drugs. And I never felt anything so you almost don't realize you're getting them. The nurses were very helpful and the pharmacist spent alot of time with us explaining the drugs.

One of the drugs I got was Ativan (sort of like Xanax or Valium) which is supposed to help with nausea so now I'm just slightly out of it but otherwise feel fine.

I've got some medications to take at home the next couple of days all to prevent nausea. Tomorrow we go back to get a white blood cell shot (Neulasta) and next Friday I have an appointment with the nurse practitioner to see how I'm doing. It's possible I may not feel well sometime in the next 4 or 5 days so we'll have to see what happens but today was a very promising start!

I've got 7 more treatments, all 2 weeks apart. Hopefully, they'll all go just as well.

Thank you all for the good wishes, thoughts and positive vibes. They're helping big time!

Hi Everyone! I'm feeling pretty good. No nausea (those medications obviously work) but I have a few more days before I'm totally out of the woods.

I've been out for my usual hour long dog walks and my only real complaint is that one of the anti-nausea medications causes insomnia but I only have to take it for two more days.

I had a Neulasta shot yesterday which causes your body to increase it's white blood cell production and you can get bone pain from that but apparently not immediately. So nothing so far but it's possible it'll happen.

By Wednesday, I expect to be through the danger period of side effects. It's interesting that the main side effects (insomnia and bone pain) are from the drugs used to counterattack the chemo side effects (nausea and drops in your blood counts).

If anyone had told me I'd feel this good after my first chemo I wouldn't have believed them but I know the effects are cumulative so that may not be the case as the treatments progress.

All in all though, I'm thrilled with how it's gone so far.

Hi Everyone! Today was Day 6 after my first chemo and I seem to be out of the woods. I'm feeling great but know I have to be careful not to pick up any infections since my white blood cell count is probably still lower than normal (despite the WBC booster shot). It's so nice to be off the anti-nausea meds. I can't say they were that bad but I do feel better not taking them--just more like myself.

The next big thing will be losing my hair which will probably be in about a week. I don't think I'm that attached to my hair (I have more bad hair days than good ones) but it'll definitely be an adjustment.

I still haven't been able to settle down and stick with any one book. I'll read a chapter or two in something one evening and then just don't get back to it. I'm hoping that will end soon because I have some good books to read and the time to do it--just not the concentration.

Thanks guys for continuing to think of me. I'm doing well and today is the day I'm getting my hair cut off. It hasn't fallen out yet but from everything I've read about the drugs I'm taking, it will and when it does, it'll come out quickly. I may have another week or just a couple of days but since Friday is my second chemo I want to deal with it now. I'm going to get a super short cut rather than shave it so I can start wearing my wig and get used to it. I'm hoping the wig will be comfortable enough to wear frequently but some people say their scalp is too sensitive to wear a wig for long periods of time. Luckily, I have some super nice, super comfortable scarves and hats to wear (two of them thanks to our nittnut--BIG happy face)!

302-Cee-
Oct 19, 2011, 10:24 am

Hi Pat!
That's interesting - cut the hair off before it falls out. Good idea.
If I ever find myself in that position, I'm gonna have a hard time though. I hate anything on my head.
Hope you find your head gear comfy. Did you get a wig of a different color for some fun? Or do you feel better having your natural color?

303phebj
Oct 19, 2011, 11:24 am

Claudia I thought about doing something different but chickened out and got one that's so close to my own color that when they tried it on I couldn't tell what was my hair sticking out and what was the wig.

I've never been a hat person, mainly because they always made my hair so static-y that I looked like I had been electrocuted when I took them off. But I may end up liking the hats better than the wig. Time will tell!

304souloftherose
Oct 19, 2011, 2:32 pm

Just stopping by to say I'm thinking of you Pat. I hope the wig is comfortable. My mum's worn one for years because lupus made her lose lots of her hair (her body decided her hair was a foreign body and needed to be pushed out) but she did have some hair left which might make a difference re comfort. She went for a wig which looked exactly the same as her hair - even adding bits of grey, although I've noticed that she hasn't got them to add more grey as the years have gone by..!

305Donna828

Hi Pat, I hope your next chemo session goes as well as the first one. I think it's a great idea to get your hair shorn before it begins falling out. Baby steps and all... Today went very well! It's so much easier when you know what to expect. And they even said I could cut back on the steroid medication that was causing insomnia since I didn't have any nausea last time. Yay!

I ended up just cutting my hair very short yesterday rather than shaving it off. It's sort of a pixie cut--although I think I look more like my brother than a pixie. The stylist says if it gets annoying when it starts to fall out I can come back in and get it shaved.

I wanted to post a link to an article I just read about Haruki Murakami that'll be in this Sunday's NY Times Magazine. It's long but reads quickly. It focuses on Murakami's new book 1Q84 that is being released in the US on October 25th but it does talk about his earlier works. Don't miss the sidebars on Murakami's Tokyo (especially helpful if you're planning to read 1Q84) and the Murakami Starter Kit. I thought it was a great article.

I was very interested in the Murakami interview. The tunnel reference did make me think of The Wind-up Bird Chronicle which I really must finish before I buy any more Murakami!

Still good health news from your end and I'm v happy to read it! Stay strong :)

Correct me if I am mistaken... but... it seems there are sooo many MORE books to be read now-a-days
AND they are all so much LONGER than they used to be!
Is it because I have finally graduated to chapter books? lol
Seriously, it doesn't seem like 700-1000 pages is all that unusual anymore. Glad I have a Kindle!

Pat, I got the book this morning and read the article with pleasure. Do you have any insight into how we are to say 1Q84?

324phebj
Oct 26, 2011, 10:59 am

Hi Gail, Ilana, Peggy, Dee, Heather, Claudia, Jenn, Ardene, Janet, Lucy, Mark and Peggy! Hope I didn't miss anyone.

This second chemo treatment has gone very well. Less anti-nausea meds worked great. My main side effect seems to be a fuzzy brain feeling that comes and goes. Last time I remember this slowly went away and I'm assuming it will this time too. I guess this is what they call "chemo brain."

The really good news though is that I'm actually going to finish a book for the first time in the last 3 months! I had been starting a bunch of new ones and then not being able to get more than 30 or so pages into them. So I decided to pick up Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier again which I had about 150 pages left to read. In the last two days I've made progress and should finish it today.

I also need to get over to the library because my hold came in all of a sudden on The Marriage Plot by Jeffrey Eugenides. Has anyone read this? I heard him interviewed recently on NPR and thought the book sounded interesting.

Peggy, I suppose I'd pronounce 1Q84 "one q eighty four" but that's just me. This one I'm not going to even think about buying yet with my current reading record. Nearly 1000 pages seems impossible at the moment but I may try to convince my husband to get it for his new Kindle Fire which should be here in a couple of weeks.

Have a great day everyone!

Hi Pat.

So pleased to hear chemo is going decently for you. I truly believe your positive attitude makes such a difference.

I am eager to read The Marriage Plot. I heard the same interview and have like the other Eugenides I have read. However, I'm still far down on my library's hold list. I look forward to hearing what you think of it.

So glad to hear things are continuing well for you Pat.

I haven't really looked into The Marriage Plot, because I've still got Middlesex and My Mistress's Sparrow Is Dead: Great Love Stories, from Chekhov to Munro unheard on my shelves and since I've been wanting to get to the first one at least for an awfully long time, won't be adding the latest one to the wishlist until the rave reviews start coming in at least. IF they do, that is.

I'm also keen on 1Q84 (also have no idea how it's pronounces, though based on the article, your version must be the right one), but 1000 pages is very ambitious-sounding, especially as I can't seem to finish anything at all this month. Not sure what's up with that. Maybe has something to do with me spending most of my waking hours on LT...

GLAD to hear that round two is continuing to go well. Chemo brain is such a rational explanation. I won't tell you about the dumb things I've been doing lately with no explanation at all. Nov 4, 2011, 7:42 pm

The arm gets better each day and I had my third chemo this morning. My oncologist is thrilled with how well I'm tolerating the chemo.

I never would have thought I'd do this well with it but I guess my thing ended up being the little complication with the surgery and not the chemo. However, I will be switching to a new chemo drug in four weeks so it's possible there may be some hiccups there. But they say that regimen is usually easier than this first one. Fingers crossed!

I did finish Rebecca and loved it. I gave it 4 1/2 stars. I also started The Marriage Plot by Jeffrey Eugenides and liked it but again stopped reading it so I'm not optimistic about getting back into it before it's due back at the library (which is probably in a couple of days).

Oh, and the unexpected good news today was they DON'T want me losing any weight during chemo (I've continued on my 1600 calorie diet throughout the surgery and first two chemos and lost another 4-5 pounds) and the oncologist said my guilty pleasure of eating a mini container of Haagen Dazs peanut butter chocolate ice cream was a nutritious snack! I'm not sure my trainer would agree but hey, it's doctor's orders. :)

It's wonderful to read how well you're doing!!! Peanut butter chocolate ice cream sounds like a perfectly rational snack to me. Do what your doctor says!!!

Hi Lynda and all my other wonderful visitors. Thanks for the continuing good wishes. I keep meaning to set up a new thread and then not getting to it.

My pattern seems to be that I take it easy the week after chemo and then pack tons of stuff to do into the second week before I start the cycle all over again.

Tomorrow is my fourth chemo treatment (and the last of this particular combination of drugs). I'll start a new drug on December 2nd for 4 cycles which is supposed to be easier to deal with. I think they mean as far as nausea side effects are concerned so maybe I won't have the spacey head thing when I start that.

Anyway, I have been reading other people's threads (mostly lurking) but have been ignoring my own. Sorry about that!

Today we're going to see J. Edgar at the movies. I've seen some mixed reviews but it seems like my kind of movie so I'm looking forward to it.

Hi Linda, Sandy, Heather, Judy, Bonnie, Ilana, Linda, Joanne, Janet, Lucy, Donna, and Anne.

Yesterday went very well and it's nice to be "done" with this cycle of drugs. I put done in quotes because the actual day I get them and then the next day I feel pretty good. It's Days 3 thru 6 where I feel woozy and not myself. But luckily by Thanksgiving, I'll be feeling good and ready for one of the favorite meals my husband cooks.

I am so lucky my husband's such a good cook and generally enjoys making me meals. He's turned out to be a great caregiver but I can see at times that it wears on him and I remember how I felt after awhile as the weeks dragged on after his knee surgery. I got tired on taking him to doctor and PT appts and, since I don't like to cook, that became an issue. Oh well, "in sickness and in health."

J. Edgar was a good movie but also very somber. It's filmed mostly in dark tones with lots of shadows. And J. Edgar is portrayed as a lonely man who wasn't connected to himself or others emotionally or physically. There's only one scene I remember when he seemed joyful and that started to wear on me--the movie is 2 hours and 17 minutes long. On the other hand, DiCaprio does a great job and in alot of ways this personality study of Hoover is fascinating. Part of my problem with it was we saw it on a very dark and rainy day and just felt depressed afterwards. Probably not a good movie if you're looking for something uplifting.

I think my favorite DiCaprio movies are Catch Me If You Can and Inception. I saw Aviator and liked DiCaprio in it but that was another one that went on a little too long for me. Usually 2 hours is about my limit.

And the good news I forgot to mention up above is that I shouldn't have the spaceyness issue with the next cycle of drugs so I'm looking forward to that.

Well, I'm starting to ramble, so I'm going to sign off for now.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

I think I'll be skipping that particular movie. But I'm glad to hear your treatment is continuing well. I imagine being a caregiver must not always be fun and games, but as you say, "in sickness and in health". If you can't rely on your spouse for that, then who? Me, I have my pets. Too bad they can't help with the cooking though. ;-)

Pat

I understand the frustration of having to rely on another, even if it is someone who loves you dearly. Will is patient and kind, but I do worry that the last year has worn him down.

He is older than I am and reminds me that now it is his turn to help me and later it will be my turn to help him.

If I ever write a book it will be about relationships in mid - older life and the adjustments we make for each other.

Hi Guys. Thanks for checking on me. I've been lurking but not posting much. My pattern seems to be that I don't do much the week after chemo and then pack a bunch of stuff to do into the second week. I'm feeling well but I've been busy recently and not on the computer as much.

Yesterday we saw Hugo in 3D, Martin Scorsese's interpretation of The Invention of Hugo Cabret. I loved it and would definitely recommend seeing it. I'm not sure the 3D added that much but it was an interesting commentary on how far the movies have progressed since the time of Georges Melies (sp?), the silent filmmaker the book is about.

I'm off to a yoga class this morning but will be back later to start a new thread. My next chemo is Friday which will officially mark the halfway point so I'm looking forward to that.

And I actually finished 4 books. Don't get too excited--none of them took more than 10 or 15 minutes to read--but they were all good.

I keep thinking about you and checking in. I'm glad the off-chemo weeks are so busy and in general it seems to be going well. It's a rough journey and I am praying for strength and peace and healing for you!
