I have a huge soft spot for Northanger Abbey. As swoony as Mr. Darcy is, I think Henry Tilney is the Austen hero I would pick for myself. :)

Doctor Who Destiny of the Doctor Hunters of Earth by Nigel Robinson

For:TBL Sorce: My Shelf Doctor Who Book #1

The first in a set of audio stories in celebration of Doctor Who's 50th year. This first focuses on the First Doctor and his Grandaughter Susan about 3 months after they arrive in 1963 London, before they kidnap Ian and Babbara and travel in time and space. The Beatles are number 1 but there is something more to the beat, Susan is being hunted.

This story is wonderfuly read by Carole Ann Ford (Susan in the TV show) and Tam Williams it has a nice pace and charm.****

For:TBR Sorce: Kindle Doctor Who Book #2

I like reading peoples opinons of things and as this is about Doctor Who even better.I'm in good hands with Rob and Toby with them writing about re watching (or some cases re listening too) was a delight. ****

Runaways: Parental Guidance by Brian K. Vaughan

For:TBR Sorce: New

Vaughan is one of the the writers I like to read, right behind Fforde, Rowling and Willingham. All of Vaughan's work has an ease.

The Runaways are battling the New Pride and one Runaway is not getting out alive. ****1/2

playing catch-up.

A Cat, A Hat and A Piece of String by Joanne Harris

For:Readers Group Sorce: Library

This book was full of Charm. I know alot of people who do not get on with Harris as a writer this maybe because she dose not stick to one genre but this book of short stories show all her talent as a writer. some are funny some are sad other are just downright batty but all the stories as a whole create a wonderful book.****

Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

For:New Sorce: Kindle

Now you all know I love fairytales and this book is no exception. I read the first in the serise Cinder last year and fell in love, normaly I don't like fantsy and Scifi to mix It is usualy done in a crass way and all the parts are just jammed together not in this story. Rather then in days of old the serise is set in the distant future but the elements of the fairytales play out the same way they always have just with portscreens, spaceships and androids.

I'm very much looking forward too the next instalmet dew out next year. ****1/2

Mar 6, 2013, 6:47 pm

Destiny of the Doctor: Shadow of Death by Simon Guerrier

For:TBL Sorce: New Doctor Who Book #3

Much Better then it's prederseser, Frazer Hines reads with much charm and abtatude sliding from the storyteller to the voices of Jamie (Who he played in Doctor Who) and The Doctor with ease. You can tell that Hines spent alot of time with Troughton as he nails Troughton's tone and pace perfetly.

This is a base under seige epic that as a whole sums up Troughhton's tennure as The Doctor. Almost Perfect. ****1/2

Doctor Who: Dark Eyes by Nicholas Briggs

For:TBL Sorce: New Doctor Who Book #4

This is the story of Molly O'Suluvan and it is full of adventure and intrege. This adio book is well paced annd the daleks are trully sceary. ****

Roy Lichtenstein by Nathan Dunne

For:TBR Sorce: New

I'm a huge Lichtenstein fan, mostly because of his comic book painting of the 60's. My favorite Drowning Girl (1963) completed 20 years before I was born, I descovered in art clas mere months after he died. I was so taken with the peice I disigned my whole Pop Art peice around it.

Known as the Copy-cat artist because he used already standing peices of art or advertising in his work but in a new highly stylised way. This this day Lichtenstine still prevokes strong opinions. ****

There is a book tag going around on you tube called the 20th Century book tag. You basicaly pick a book from your shelf for every decade of 1900's and I tought that it would be cool if I put my choices down here in my thread.

The Railway Children by E. Nesbit, first published in 1906 I read some time in the early 90's and to this day is one of my favorite childrens stories.

The Thirty-Nine Steps by John Buchan, first published in 1915. I have yet to read this book but I like the film so I will like the book. This was the only choise that I had for this decade.

The Inimitable Jeeves by P. G. Wodhouse, first published in 1923. As I was looking for a book for this decade I thought I would have to use The Great Gatsby like everyone else but thankfuly I found this.

Ballet Shoes by Noel Streatfeild, first published in1936. I love this story and is the first in Steatfeild's Shoes Serise. I have a very beat-up 70's paperback edition which I do not wish to be parted from.

Perelandra by C. S. Lewis, first published in 1943 is also known as Voyage to Venus is the second in a trilogy. I have yet to read this book but would like to track down the other two books first. And speaking of C.S. Lewis...

The Lion,The Witch and The Wardrobe be C. S. Lewis, first published in 1950. This is where I started having muliple choices for decades. My first thought of this decade was to pick an Enid Blyton book but I found this. I was ten years old before I really took an intrest in reading. But when I discoverd the world of books this was one of the first books tbat I ploughed my way through.

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Philip K. Dick, first published in 1968, is anothe scifi book and one on this list yet to read.

The Shining by Stephen King, first publushed in 1977. Pays homage to the Horror days of my late teens and early 20's. King is the Horror God I have to inclued him on my list.

Now we get to the two decades that most of my booms are publushed in. So less of a case of finding books but chosing which ones...

The Witches by Roald Dahl, first published in 1983. Published the year I was born and my favorite Dahl book this was the most obvious choice for the 80's. This is a funny and shocking story about a boy andhis Grandmother and a gaggle of Witches that they meet on holiday.

Now for the 90's I am torn. I hqve two comfort books that I read over and over both copies are falling apart. Both are the 3rd book in there serise. Very little is between them apart from a reading gap of 8 years and o e starged a teeny tiny obsesion. Earth to Matthew by Paula Danzinger, first published in 1991. And ofcorce Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J. K. Rowling.

So I send the question out there Which book whoud you choose?

85MickyFine
Jun 12, 2013, 10:50 pm

>84 BBGirl55: Hmm, I might have to play that game. Is it limited to only books you own or books I've read? As for your question, I haven't read that Danziger so I'd have to go with Harry Potter. :)

Aug 8, 2013, 2:34 pm

It depends on the week and what I'm doing plus which book I'm reading. Dickens is usually a solid two weeks of one book. Last week I had a tiny Steinbeck novella so it was a 3 book week. I'd say I probably average 1.5. :)

I have no hard or even soft stats on books per week. Sometimes it might be 5, other times not even one. I go with the flow :) I have been reading a lot of un- challenging books lately. In fact, I have read so many Vamp and Were books that when I was creating an account for a patron last week, and misread his birthdate on his drivers license as 1865, I thought to myself.. "oh, he must be a vampire" and never thought anything that. for a moment anyway then reality bit..... lol

London by Tube by David Revill

For: TBR Source: kindle

This was a nice little book about London's Underground stations. Full of history some that knew most that I did not. I spend a lot of time in London and on the tube but saying this I have yet to discover it's extremities. I spend most of my time in and around central London on only four lines, Victoria, Piccadilly, Northern and District. I have dabbled with some of the other lines but to my knowledge ( I was about four when I first went on the tube) I have never been on the Hammersmith and City or the Metropolitan Lines. ****

Doctor Who: Death's Deal by Darren Jones

For: TBL Source: New Doctor Who Book #24

I was so happy with this story, it is far from the best in the series but it was wonderfully read by Catherine Tate. Tate again plays Donna my favourite of 10th Doctors Companions Witty, Loud mouthed and caring. Tate has a wonderful sense of timing and makes all the characters sound individual. She takes on the voice of the Doctor with ease, picking up on his rambling inconsistent speech patterns. Lovely. ****

I got to see it in the theatre... the place was jam-packed, and it was a late showing! Delightful experience, with multiple generations in attendance. Moffat did a great job of catering to all generations of Whovians -- my father picked up on many references and tidbits that were lost on me, and I think I enjoyed some parts more than he did... so overall, I'd say that's a success!
