I've been unpacking boxes of books since my move and I'm trying to get them listed in LT. As I'm going through the books, I'm pulling out several books and adding them to my already large "to be read" stack. The ones I added today are as follows.
An American Tragedy by Theodore Dreiser
Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz
Quicksilver: The Baroque Cycle 1 by Neal Stephenson
A Northern Light by Jennifer Donnelly
Pattern Recognition by William Gibson
I also have the entire Dark Tower series by Stephen King in my stack to reread. What do I tackle first? :)

The Lions of Al-Rassan by Guy Gavriel Kay is up next; I've been reading all his stuff recently and decided to save this one for last since it's got the best reviews.
After that, I think it'll be about time for a Harry Potter reread. I've also promised myself that I can reread the whole Elfquest series in July; I'm really looking forward to that. Kenneth Oppel's Silverwing trilogy is also begging to be reread, as are Airborn and Skybreaker.
But Robin Hobb's Liveship Traders series arrived in the mail today, and I think that might disrupt my plans...

#1 Georgia, I can only speak from experience about Quicksilver. I enjoyed all 3 of the Baroque Cycle, but they are long. Would you feel compeled to continue right on to the 2nd and 3rrd of that series, or do you take a break or breather when a series is available?
4GeorgiaDawn
cad-lib - I usually take a break between books in a series. I'll read one or two other books and then get back to the series.

Today was the Day of Holding for my summer reading. Luckily, a lot of the items in my TBR list for the next couple of months were in the library.
~ The entire Lindsay Davis Marcus Falco set of mysteries
~ The entire Jim Butcher Dresden Files series
~ Cannery Row by John Steinbeck. The oddball of the bunch: I'm going on a mini-vacation to Monterrey in August and figured I might as well get this classic read.. or atleast give it a shot.
~ Roma by Steven Saylor
Think that's about it. I've also been meaning to get a reread of Tolkien's stuff in, so that may fill up the rest of the summer months.

#5, I just read Cannery Row, and I thought it was absolutely wonderful! You'll really enjoy it, I think! It's brief, funny, and heartfelt. Let me know if you enjoy it!

#1 - I enjoyed Quicksilver - read the whole cycle twice..., and Pattern recognition was, at least, OK :-)
Have to run to work now, add my TBR later ;-)

#2 - Don't hesitate to enter the discussion on that book when you've read it, if you want :-)

Present TBR -
Fionavar Tapestry; The Summer Tree, The wandering fire & The darkest road. I'm also waiting to start The Last light of the Sun - I'm on a "read everything by Guy Gavriel Kay quest", as most of you know by now ;-)
Also to be read sometime soon is Behind the curtain : travels in eastern european football, and Fourth planet from the sun which is an anthology I bought cheap but because I actually thought I would enjoy it, hehe.
I have not decided where to place Cyteen in all of this... probably first or second - before or after "Last light..."

Ancestor's Tale is all that's on my list once I've finished my current Gardens of the moon, I'm not far into this yet and currently unsure whether to persue the rest of this series. The world seems good with an interesting magic, but the names are getting confusing, and so is the politics.
Busifer - if you're not carefull you'll be on a read everything by C J Cherryh quest too! And that will take you a lot more time than Guy Kay.

cj cherryh's on my "TBR list" although not in the pile.
right now i think the master and margarita is going to be next, since it's been on my pile for a long while, and i just today saw a thread in which it was being raved about.
after that, i've got to re-read the first five of steven erikson's tales of the malazan so that i can move on to the bonehunters and reaper's gale, both of which are calling loudly from the shelf.
i've also been meaning to get to kushiel's dart for a while now, but i'm hesitant to start a new series before getting caught up in malazan.
so much to read, so little time to read it all!

#10 - I know and I won't go for that - she has written one book too many!!!
Also, that is one of the reasons it took me so long to start reading them; I had been planning to read her books for a long time but couldn't get any idea on where to start. To wade through them at random seemed like a doomed modus operandi...
#11 - The Master and Margarita is well worth reading!
Maybe I should add that the books above is "TBR pile" > books that I own and plan to read soon/now.
I carry a small black notebook filled with books "to buy" and "check out"...

#11 How does the Tales of the Malazan continue - stylistically I mean? Does it all become clearer once you've got the main cahracters in your head, or do you keep having to get used to new ones? Do the plots stay innovative? Is the general quality remaining high? Or sinking in the way of many series?

>13 reading_fox: i've not been disappointed at all with it, up through book 5. new characters continue to get introduced, and thus new plot lines, but he keeps it woven tightly enough that you can see how it all interacts together, and the old characters are still there tying the story-lines in. i actually read deadhouse gates first, and found that after i went back and read gardens of the moon (easily the weakest of the series), then read deadhouse *again*, things started to come together and i was able to keep everything clear in my mind.
all that said, however, this will be the *second* time i'm going back to re-read the whole thing, because as complex as the whole world is, i do not feel confident that i will be able to keep up after more than a year off, waiting for the next installments to come out. if i wasn't so addicted and constantly waiting with baited breath until i could get the next book, i'd almost suggest waiting until the series is done, then buying them & reading them all at once. of course, that would entirely defeat the purpose of having spent the equivalent of $30 US to get reaper's gale off of amazon.uk *sigh*

Thanks. It's always good to know the rest of the series is worthwhile! Not good for the wallet of course, but that's a different problem.

I have a very large TBR pile, but I think the ones I'm going to read soonest are probably Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky, Fingersmith by Sarah Waters, and Inkspell by Cornelia Funke. It's hard because I have a lot of books here in England with me, and I'm due to go back to the US a week from tomorrow (a sad event), and can't bring too many, so I have to read the ones most pressing while I still have access to them.

#11 philosojerk : Kushiel's Dart is high on my TBR list too. Also up there are Slow River, Life of Pi (for a bookclub), and Picnic on Paradise.

#12 Master and Margarita is a great book! So clever and entertaining...
My Amazon wishlist has its own zipcode at the moment. My To Read list is whatever I grab when I've finished the current one.

To Ride Hell's Chasm for the group read, Second Chance by Brzezinski and "any book by Steinbeck" for my in-person book clubs, and The Dangerous Book for Boys for all the children in my life. But, like everyone else in here, my TBR pile takes up three shelves in my library!

Okay. I have four books to read in July for various book clubs, both real life and here on LT.
To Ride Hell's Chasm
A Lantern in Her Hand
Middlemarch
Summer Reading* by Hilma Wolitzer

Since I got my copy of To Ride Hell's Chasm yesterday, it is at the top of my stack. I will begin it later today.

I have some reading that I must start doing, so I have had to shuffle my TBR pile around. I'm into book 4 of the Harry Potter books and plan to finish those before July 21st. I have To Ride Hell's Chasm also; I plan to start that soon. There are a couple of books on my students' summer reading list that I haven't read, and since I report back to school on July 23rd, I need to start them too. They are Ender's Game and Bull Run. I have 2 shipments coming from Amazon in the next week or so. I'm telling ya - it's an addiction!
