Oh, Dunkers! You handsome dog! You melt my heart :-)
Gimme those ears! I bet they are floppy and soft. xoxo
OK. I got the ebook from the library Dead Until Dark. Hope I can squeeze it in - I only have a week to read it.
I still have 300 pages of Mists to read... this book is full of zingers! I think another is about to explode upon the scene... and if it's what I expect, thank the goddess! It's time!
Congrats! You blasted past 50!

So, he did it again. Last summer he cut my le,om balm down to the roots. I clenched my teeth amd pointed out to him the the little mini shrub was MINE. I ASSUMED IT WOULD COME BACK, AND IT DID, TO MY RELIEF. IT's gone again. He said I necer told him. The truth is he never listens. Never. I am livid. He bought some crap exotic grass and is planting it there. I asked him to please plant what he bought all together in one are. No. So he is apreadinf four weeny little planrs way across the wall. One, will not survive. Porobably none will...they never do. He plants them every year.
He unloaded the mulch on the side of the house that has no trees. I will have to lug it to the opposite side of the property. I finally got the mulch today, i have asked him the last three times he went to the store to buy it. He said he would, he didn't. It is going to make my day much harder. I suspect that was the plan.

Sorry to hear about your ruined plants, Kath. Does that man consider aggravation an art form or something?
Love, love, love the photo of Duncan!

Did he leave the hydrangeas in at least replantable condition? The beast. Absolute beast. He'd better start being more careful, or they may be an LT posse meet-up there in Pa.
Many ways to make sure the blasted "ornamental" grass will not grow nor thrive nor even survive. Oh, he is vile.
Could you maybe accidentally hit him in the head with a shovel? "Oops, sorry Dear; it slipped. Why, I seem to have killed you. Who could imagine such a thing?" All of us, certainly.

oh Mark :(
Terri... I believe you may have hit the nail on the head.
Gail.. I don't know when he dug them out or where he tossed them. He did leave the weeds on that hillside.
I will buy more, dammit. And plant them in the same place. I love hydrangeas. I will also plant some different thyme plants that will spread. I honestly don't get it.. there is just nothing left to say. I am so fed up.
I was invited to Kim's for dinner. Chicken sausage and salad and weight watchers cake for desert with coconut coffee. It was all very good. I admit, I came home and had a bit of turkey chili... I was still a bit hungry when I got home. And I had calories left so...
I'm reading A Touch of Dead...and think I will make some cardamom tea....

Happy new thread! *glitter*
To get a grab bag:
You just go to PayPal, choose "send money to someone," enter the e-mail address on that FB post, and pick how much you're going to spend. Then say which bag you're ordering in the subject line and describe what you'd want in your bag in the message block.
That sounded complex, but it's really not.

Hi E... I think I need some of that glitter here at home, I might sweep some right out of my thread :)
thank you ! And thank you for the info :)
Ellen.. he is rather photogenic, doncha think? He usually has very fluffy feet. Long hair there! A trainer / groomer that I met told me how to trim his toes and his tail so it looks nice. I am grateful for that :) it has come in handy. I hate wearing socks in the summer, I just think he would too? I do love that boy, he is an angel in my life.

Still having laptop issues, AND connection issues. Maybe I should just give up trying to post until that is sorted. Plenty of typos here under more typical circumstances, iPad typing is even more challenging. Grrr.

Grab the furkids and MOVE! Come up here - we don't have Comcast on the island :-)
Absolutely beauteous day today - sunshine, warm, birds chirping, slight breeze, flowers grinning. This is when I say "if every day was like this I could take summer!"
This morning we had a woodpecker at the hummingbird feeder. I wonder if his beak is long enough and he got a nice drink of kool-aid (which is what that stuff looks like to me)?
Hope you are feeling well and have a wondrous day... or at least a pleasant one ;-)
ps - I finally found your pictures on fb. Your yard is super-lovely... and YOU! You are beautiful! And when I say beautiful, that includes your radiant spirit. Hugs for all your stick-to-it-tiveness. xo

Good afternoon, Dearie. Many soft pats and some new towels to ease the aggravation of living of living with that beastly ogre. We're having a few issues, but they're more pathetic than anything else.
You may not believe this, but I ordered my preferred styling mousse from Amazon, and a weeder like we had when I was a child, and a small but nifty raised bed thingy. I plan every year to start one in the fall, but then they're out of stock. Now I have it and will start it in the cool rainy time of the year.
The convenience of ordering is marvelous, and half the time I can't find what I want locally no matter how hard I search.
Tomorrow is coffee day. Hang on to that thought.

Silly. Settling = new power cords every 12-14 hours. But hey, long as you're happy.
Buy a new one, then! It's your birthday, and goddesses know you've earned every goddamned dime thestupid thing precious item could ever cost. No sense settling now! You need a new computer and you deserve to have exactly and precisely what you want. You've done MORE than your share in every way. Accept this as your reward.
So go forth and purchase!

Oh, Duncan is just adorable, Kath! I'm so happy to have a furry face to put together with your stories about him now.
I am far from a green thumb but your yard/garden woes sound awful. I love your determined spirit to just plant the darn things again! That's the spirit.

Hi Julia, thank you! He is a beauty :) The garden? I am hoping that my lemon balm will come back again...It should unless he dug it up by the roots, it has been there for years.... years. Close to the kitchen. I could step out and get some when I wanted t for cooking or salad. Crossing fingers.
Thanks calm. Nothing like getting older for you to stop and think about who you have spent your life with....
Thank you Carri :)
I work with Laura today.. so it will be good

Cee... It was like most other days.. worked, came home and cleaned.... Talked to a friend.. found a dozen more reasons to be P O'd at Dan. I did get to talk to a friend....One of Dans.. helpful little thingsthat is going to cause me problems today. Surprising, eh? Thanks for the party kitty. Last night I dreamed that I found a bus filled with stranded kids.. then I saw Angus out in the snow and stopped to get him. Then, I saw a baby wrapped in the snow.. so I called 911. They took the baby and I drove the bus and parked it in an apartment bldg., took Angus and went home. Then he woke me up. ( Angus that is ) Weird.
Thanks Kerry :)
Hi Jim and Reba... thank you both for stopping by, and the good wishes...
Hi roni, thank you!
Well, I went to work yesterday and Laura gave me a lovely card with nice things written in it. She also gave me an angel food cake. It was very sweet. Work was okay yesterday, but the end of the day pretty much sucked... oh well.. it certainly could have been even worse...
Today? I have to do a quick vac of the furniture and floors and off to get sandwich fixings and Craig and Sonia are coming home. yay! I have no idea what else I need.. I guess some sausage for breakfast and another dozen of eggs? I wish I could just buy some bagels and bagel toppings and be done, but that won't work. Cee? Are you available to shop with me for impossible grocery lists?
rdear.. sigh

So sorry that I missed it yesterday. Wishing you the best of luck with your impossible grocery shopping, and a visit form Craig and Sonia that is full of fabulous. Happy, happy belated birthday, sis! Hugs for you, dear one!

Cee, i have it easier than you.... No one is vegan or gluten free. I was just whining. I got low carb bread, high carb bread, low fat ground beef and ground turkey...and hot dogs, salad stuff and sandwich stuff...all done. I wish I had a fast metabolism. I have a tortoise like one....
Mamie, no worries, i have been too busy to visit much myownself, getting ready for the kids to arrive..and trying to find out if cory is bringing the G/F.
Thanks Breezy! And trust me, there are many bottles and I know just where they are.
Craig's flight arrives in 15 min. I just finished the getting ready, and the speech where I ask my furkids to not shed

Cee... I love lemon, so obviously I am not a fairy ( Sookie Ref. ) and those look delicious! Thank you so much.. lol. I ate all sorts of terrible food .. so today .. I am being very good.
Linda ... All 4-5 days were good. Adam is about to fly home now. It was wonderful and surprising... and pretty much all good.
rdear... delish! taunter.
Cee...It was hot here all weekend... HOT and then today got cooler and less humid. I had all of the a/c units ( 3) on, and all of the fans. Today, last kid on his way home, I had to work and it is beautiful!
JuliaI know.. so tempting.. and so not there... lol

Mamie.. good to see you sis! I have been so crazy busy! I am completely behind on everyone's thread.
I hope you and the rest will forgive me.. Monday was hard, I had to work and Adam was still here.. he came down to the library 2x to spend some time, but still..
Gail.. it was good. Nothing to complain about.Amy and Tom spoiled me by not letting me in the kitchen at all on saturday. I was having a hard time with that at first, but soon got used to it and just let them do their thing. Dinner was N.C. BarB Q and cole slaw, cheesy potatoes..and cake.. lol
I came home and fed the furkids and headed upstairs to get the sheets and towels to start in. I am going to help set up the book sale tomorrow, on my day off... so I need to do today what I would have done tomorrow, if I want to go to Kelly's
Dunkers had diarrhea upstairs ( sigh) not a surprise, but not something I was up for. I cleaned up and have to go and put some sheets and towels in the dryer and more in the washer.. It will be a quiet night here, just me and the furkids.
Please forgive my absence I will pop into everyone's threads as soon as I can.

Kath is giving up her day off to work the liberry's book sale, and it's necessary to pack/unpack the sale books. I'd say we make her the Patroness Saintlet of the Biblioverse, but she'd smack me one.

Cee picture taking was fine...a wee bit windy. We shall see what we get......it was nice and cool here today too. S'posed to go to Kelly's tonight. We'll see.
Rd, i underestimated I think. There were probably that many ancient kids books. Almost no decent fiction, hard or soft cover. I predict that we will make very little. Very, little.
Caro, i worked 4.5 of the 6 hours by myself. I will refrain from further comment on that.
Gail. Right you Really too much work. I wish i had more positive feelings about it . I just don't. And it makes me feel frustrated ....
Rd a saint would not have thought some of the things I was thinking today :P

Hi Bonnie! It would be not so ghastly if i thought some of the books would sell. I hope i'm just being a pessimist, and judging by my standards... But honestly, there is nothing there that i would buy .
Someone wanted the leftovers to sell for a fundraiser on ebay, but she wanted us to box them up.... I am so tired of looking at those books...lol
Ellen, I love red velvet cake, too :) yum. How are things for you? I am still far far behind. I work all day today, so that won't chane any time soon.....

I am now on book number 59. It is Dead Reckoning one of the last of the Sookie books. I will miss her when it's all over.
I counted the first three as one book, as it was an omnibus edition, same with book two. I am so grateful that rd dragged me into Sookie-land by sending them my way.
Comcast is coming back today. Hey have decided that all of my issues are due to my modem being upstairs, and they are going to move them down. The only reason that I agreed is that I was planning to do the same thing for my own convenience. I am dead certain that isn't why my ph.one isnt working.
I was scraping wall papers yesterday...as bathroom reno has begun. I do have a steamer and scraper ...but ouch ouch ouch. My wrist is killing me ! Anyone have any suggestions as to ways to bypass this scraping step? Gail has told me about something I want to investigate.
So how are you?

Regarding the wallpaper, my sister found a kind of gel at Lowes. It worked really well. No steaming, very little scraping. Neither of us can remember the name - check with staff at your local Lowes or hardware store.

Judy..Thank you! After yesterday, I ran to the local hardware to investigate and found something called Chomp. I just sprayed it on, and now I wait a few minutes to see if it works... it is supposed to let you eel the backing off easily. I am not hopeful that it will be that easy, but we shall see..
rd.. if only. sigh. I already have a headache from breathing in the spray. If I die, tell my kids to sue Chomp.

Comcast report.. 3 trucks three guys just left. They moved my modem and router downstairs ( which I had intended to do anyway) and put in a new phone lone. My stuff is onw right where I can see it and watch all the lovely and hopefully green buttons...

Hm. Don't remember that name. I think we had a gel, so it didn't get much in our lungs. Keep all the windows open and an exhaust fan running - maybe that will help.

Amen to that Reba!! never again! ( although, there is now some kind of wallpaper that is like clings or something that can e moved from place to place... interesting)
Joe, I agree... at the end of the day, none is best!
Judy.. I am doing those things, and taking frequent breaks. I think I have reached the extent of what I can do today, due to my somewhat abbreviated reach, due to being less tall than some, and my now swollen wrist.
I made stuffed peppers again during one break. I know, I made them just a few weeks ago, but I had a hankering. They are for tomorrow. Today? I made a pot of Turkey/bean chili yesterday..... so I am good for food for a few. Sort of. I will cook a cauliflower tomorrow..

MOVE. Come to Maine ;-) Bring the furkids... leave Dan home.
I am SO lucky. Ron loves to peel wallpaper (he also loves to defrost refrigerators) ... it just takes awhile. He does a little at a time. I'll give him credit though. He does keep at it 'til it's finished.
I do like wallpaper in some rooms - but avoidance is good!
Wish I had stuffed peppers for tomorrow.
Oh! tomorrow is the last morning for a week I have to get up with Loki at 6... YAY!

ROFL, Cee
Move, that would do it for sure... What is Ron's technique for scraping? And why does he like it? And defrosting? Gah!
The Chomp works great. The part where I used it went fairly quickly. I went back to the steamer for a portion of the wall because there wouldn't be enough left to do the whole room, and I wanted to save it for the area above the tub. A whole new bottle would mostly go to waste.
I hurt. My wrist and hand and my shoulders and neck are bad, so bad. I am going to ask Keith for help later..It's hard to reach the places I have left... I only have a step stool.... No idea where he put the ladder. I stood on the counter and reached a lot ...

Why does Ron like what he likes? Beats the pants off of me!
I think he takes a warm, wet cloth and holds it over the paper for a minute - then scrapes/peels it off. It has to be done in two stages. Once for the paper that on top... then again for the layer underneath. I'm sure he has a slower pace than you do. Perhaps he is just a glutton for punishment - afterall, he did marry me!
I might start priming the hall today, but it is so beautiful out I am tempted to sit on the back deck and read.
We are going to a friend's house for dinner tonight :-)
Hope you do nothing more with your wrist today than turn pages. Be kind to yourself - you deserve it ;-)

I have refrained from saying anything about these books, lest there be a spoiler for anyone.
I had a moment near the end of this one where I hoped that it might hint to yet one more book... but I have heard this is the last and so be it. It was a fun ride. If you are avoiding these books as I did ( silly me) I urge you to give one a try. Good fun.. but note that there is a fair amount of sex so not for pre-teens who might be shocked by that. These are really not books for most kids.
Cee, I hope you opted for the book. I did . I have now finished :
60.Dead Ever After by Charlaine Harris . 3.75 and WAAH! I will miss them all....
Soon, I have to go and celebrate my sister's birth.
So.....
Probably no more reading for me today. Oh and last load to get out of the dryer.. oops!

That might hook a few, Kath ;-)
I have so many books I need to read right now, I can't justify in my own mind pursuing this series. But I did read the first one and Sookie is a likable character. Hard for me to get used to vampires, etc. Don't know why though since I do like fantasy. I'll probably pick these up again in the future when life is not so busy.
I did read some of Jane Eyre today - the next assigned book. I read this when I was quite young and don't know if I will remember any of it. Glad to give it another read now.
Sweet Dreams!

Ugh, wallpaper removal is the pits. It's never easy to get off, no matter what they say. For that reason, I have none in this house. And I'm perfectly happy w/o it Kath. There are so many beautiful paint colors, who needs it. You are tempting me with the Sookie series. Did you hear that the author was getting death threats because she ended the series? Those must be people who are really hooked on the series;-)
128mckait
Cee... true the sex scenes might entice a few. They are vivid but not overly frequent, and do not seem inappropriate for the story. I know what you mean about having so many books... me too, I read the first one and then made a decision to read through. With all 13 books available to me, I thought perhaps I would get tired of them midway, but that never happened. Rare.
Bonnie, I agree. No more. I am pretty sure that what we just took down was put up at Dan's request. Cee's Ron may like to take it down, but Dan likes putting it up. There is none left in the house. I do have to say that http://www.muralsyourway.com/repositionable-wallpaper/?mmwaf=gpc&_vsrefdom=g... has my attention. They showed it on Rachel Ray a few days ago. It looks like a fun way to change the look of a room. They used it to create a headboard behind a bed. That got my attention!
I lost phone and internet again last night. I have no idea what is going on, but Comcast called me to tell me that there were 7 people in my area that made appointments last night due to service interruptions. This is good. I was texting the exact and real time to the area supervisor or whatever his title. I was able to have him call my landline during the time I had no service. That was satisfying to me.
They moved my modem and router down to my living room on Saturday, and while it didn't solve the problem, it did seem to help my aging laptop. Connection is better. This is good. Except when the modem goes dark. :P
I feel a wee bit lost without Sookie. I suspect it will be a while before I stop wondering what she is up to.
What next? Dunno
I work all day today.

rd... adding books to millenium . I know how to do it, mostly. Hard to be proficient when I do one book or two every 2 weeks .. during which time I am interrupted by the phone or other things. So, Today I get to do it several times over and then I will be able to use my own initials to get into the system and do it. Right now I can only do it under the supervision of Laura. The truth is, I won't have to do it very often, as it is something she considers her job...but I will have the authorization ( and ability) should I need it.

So last night I put some chicken in my crock pot, to make chicken tacos. It worked well. It is programmable, so it turned off when I told it to and kept it warm. I am letting it cool a bit more and then I can clean it up. It was very weird smelling food at night. I wanted to have some of this made, though... as the chili is nearly gone. I need a goto food in the fridge.
I woke up sleepy. I'm not sleeping well.....
Yesterday morning I forgot to mention that Comcast was all over the area again. Seems that the night before there were some of us had an outage again. Internet and phone. Tiresome. Very.
Yesterday evening seemed fine though... but no one called so ? lol
Today, the gas company is out there. They are changing out gas lines.

Shredded chicken with salsa sounds nice. We have been off food here lately, so all I have is last weeks leftovers (from about 4 meals) in the fridge, all of them need to be chucked out! Ah well, my mojo will return and i shall cook again soon. :)

Thanks Megan... I have had a lifetime of it.. so can almost always get over it quickly. ( ish) The chicken was good. I only ate the left over chili for some complex carbs. I haven't been eating right lately, too many calories left at the end of the day. Then I eat bad stuff like pretzels. I have those mini drummies ice cream cones 120 only calories but bad calories.
Bad storms here last night. I woke long enough for a bathroom run, but back to sleep. We need the rain. And the wind wasn't as bad as expected, so my lattice stayed up for my morning glories. Good, that!
Work today. I have to do cutting for crafts. I do not do that well. Do NOT like it, and never do it well. Frustrated that it was left so late in the game. I hope I can manage it. Not happy about it.

Cee. Things were as expected. Don't assume that I am a good cook, just because I do cook. I used to be a better cook. Now? I am tired of cooking and wish I didn't have to. I don't think I would want to eat out every day either, though. I think I'm too lazy. I just want to be home. I think that having someone cook for me would be the ultimate bliss. I am off today, and tomorrow. Although, I may go in tomorrow, to help move computers. ( I know, I know.. I may not. ) I need to take Laura a birthday card. I won't work with her much next week as she has Monday off for her birthday. I can't keep my workdays straight either.. :P
I had a nice time last night watching Peter, Paul and Mary on PBS and then listening to what I have on my cloud/computer. NOt much reading, I am trying to read Flight Behavior, but may not get through it. Still have Sookie hangover. I brought home the True Blood DVDs to see what they offer.
I keep waking every day feeling dull lately. And I had not good dreams last night, although the dream I woke to had Sandra Bullock in it.......still, it was not good. Bummer.

I ran to the store and took the handles for my new bath cabinets to the hardware store. They still have the sidewalk sale, so I got a hanging fern for 2.50. yay me :) I have wanted one since they first went out! The cool, wet weather is agreeing with my plants.. they are thriving, as are the weeds. My glories are already beginning to climb, and some nasturtiums that did not make an appearance last year have popped up. Not bad, all things considered.

Yay! A day off! Sounds like your garden is looking great, Kath. Ours has been doing really well, too, with the cool, wet weather, mostly thanks to my MBH. We have a neighborhood garden walk in a week or two, which we always enjoy. We're all close enough together in the city that we can visit quite a few in a couple of hours.
I'm at work, just trying to tie up some loose ends after a hectic week, but I'll out of here soon enough.
Reading sounds like a good call to me. I'm enjoying Tracy Kidder's Among Schoolchildren, about a teacher of a 5th grade class in Holyoke, MA.

Ellen...It's funny. My neighbor remembers what cars people drive. I remember the dogs I have seen them with. What a pair we are, lol. I have had this dog before, he is a beauty. He and his doggie sibs are not well cared for. The owner has... in the past... moved away for years and left cats behind. yep. Just moved away and left 3 cats. they were taken in or cared for by neighbors. I told the police yesterday, because Kody was on his way to stay at the station until Tuesday morning when the shelter opens again. I wasn't positive it was him....but pretty sure. He was very hungry, and into a neighbors garbage, so I lured him to me with hot dogs, gave him a bowl of water and slipped the leash on him. it took over an hour for the police to show up, during which time margie and I gave our phones and FB a workout. So once the police came ( the dog didn't like the officer) We loaded him in the car and went off to buy food for his stay at the station. As we drove, with the dog standing between us in the van.. lovely, sweet dog.....His owner's daughter called. I was pretty sure it was an O'Connor dog ...and it was. I was both relieved and sorry. I have no faith in their pet car skills. This dog was running once before with one of the other dogs for HOURS on a 100F day. That day, with two of them, they wouldn't let me get them. I was going to put the little one on their porch ( they have a gate .. and hook Kody to a run in the shade and make sure they had water. )Didn't happen. That day all I can do is put out water. I keep a leash on my front porch to use when these dogs run my neighborhood, so I can try to get them off the street. Funny, one year my daughter found three lost dogs and a cat.. which, she had to climb under a car on the highway ( not her car) on her way to work. That was a long story, but kitty found a good home, thanks to Amy. It's in the genes.
My nephew had a neighbor like mine... didn't take care of his dog. The dog started going to Bobby whenever he could for affection and food. Once he came up all bloody... Bobby called the police who took the dog and that dog was taken to the shelter and found a new home. This nephew said he thinks that there was a slip up and that he should have been my kid, his mom wouldn't let him have animals ....
Part of the problem yesterday was that we have a new animal shelter. I have no idea if they have an emergency drop off area. The old one did. Center ( where they shelter is located ) police wouldn't help.
( shocking, I know ) I will make it my business to find out about the drop off on tuesday. We actually have a vet that isn't too far away that will shelter found pets ... but, they were full up.
Megan... I wish I would have had your help. I foresee more craft prep in my future, and it doesn't make me smile :P
Joanne...Thanks ! I hope they take better care ...I suspect that the daughter who was taking care of the pets may have left the door open to the back yard, and kody tunneled out again. This is what was happening before. They need to do something so he can't. These dogs that run are in danger from cars and foolish people with guns. And one particular local cop with a gun who has a rep for just shooting the dogs. I asked if he was on duty before we asked for police assist. We would have put him on Margie's enclosed deck until this morning. I told dispatch that, too. Spencer is a _ _ _ _ ( insert the word of your choice ) and when he is on duty and is called out, he will simply call.... and ask, "what do you want me to do?" This is a known issue, but nothing can be done.
ANYway....Happy Dad's day to the dads out there and hopefully, today will be less interesting for me :)

Kath - It is a sad indictment against someone whose pets dislike them so thoroughly. Having said that we have three cats. The eldest Cinders loves me to bits. The two siblings - the cat who couldn't fly Bambi and his sister Jinxy have a love hate relationship (mainly hate) with me that I struggle to fathom. Jinxy will run for the hills when she sees me appear and I do wonder what guilty secret either of us are concealing from the other!
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday dear lady.

Well cats often simply prefer one person. All of my cats prefer me, except possibly one.. Emmie. She will go to Dan to sleep. The other three sleep on my bed, and Dunkers next to my bed. Once, when I worked for the vet, there was a guy that i DISLIKED a lot. He was vile to all of us, all the time. His pet was in for surgery. Time came to send the dog home to him, and he showed up with his usual snarl. I was sad to have to turn the lab over to him. But you know, she saw him and she smiled the biggest ever dog smile, and lept with joy. Literally lept, 2 days post surg. She clearly saw something that I didn't so...

I always like Kingsolver. Glutton for punishment? Her books just reach something in me, as I am so drawn to books with great characters, and imo her characters are so real. The stories are sometimes difficult, but so worth it. ( To me )

I like Kingsolver too! I hope to get to Pigs in Heaven later in the year. Do you have an iPad? I FINALLY bought an iPad 2. Yah! Is there a Library Thing app?
193msf59
You can get on LT, though? Probably a dumb question. Any other pointers, would sure be helpful.

You Safari to Librarything on the iPad, Mark.
I know, Kath, we've got a male actor Tracy Letts here in town, and I've got a niece named Tracy. It's one of those dual-gender names. Where I work was headed for a long time by a man named Beverly (Scottish?)

Hi Kath,
What an awesome day... started with a hermit thrush singing this morning when I got up with Loki. My favorite birdsong :-)
The weather is nearly perfect (no snow though) and I have very few responsibilities today.
Hope you find serendipity in your day... hugs!

Mark, glad you got sorted out. An LT app has been discussed, but I'm not sure it will ever happen. I have no issue with just using Safari.. my typing suffers, but?
Joe... My son has one of those names :) ( Cory) funny how our brains work, isn't it :)
Cee.. Glad you had a good start to your day :) My workday started not so great, I wrote about it in Mamie's thread. A woman ( for whom I have zero respect) behaved badly. She eventually left. It is warm here, not too bad. 80 a wee bit humid. Not terrible. No serendipity that I can think of. I worked with Cathy, it's Laura's birthday and she managed to get it off.. Hi Reba! Glad to know that you like Kingsolver, too :)
rd... I put in *NEW* books today.. not ones I could just attach to, but new ones. EEK! I am pretty sure that I got it all done right, but may have missed a comma or two. I can't wrap my brain around semi-colon or colon and then comma....but I put in a dozen books and got them labeled, covered and on the shelf I felt like super-woman!
Mamie! hugs
rd.. hmmm.. that graphic looks like some of my days... lol
Megan.. When the kids were home, there were six of us and six kitties.. and one kitty picked each of us. That was a long time ago, and only Morgan is left from that clowder. Now, mostly it's me.
So, it is looking like rain, but the weather guesser says no, not until tomorrow. I think I can skip watering though.... it has rained a lot lately...
I brought home season 2 of True Blood.

Morning Kath- ^ Was someone laughing at Mark up there? You use your iPad for book reading, right? I will download the Kindle app but I don't think I'll purchase many books. I need to pay off the player first. I did request a couple digital e-books from my library. I do want to try it out.

Greetings, Kath! You're getting ahead of me in the library training. I still don't enter books . . . I started to learn on Millenium, and then we changed to Evergreen, and the rules are all different, and nobody at our library has qualified to be a Certified Cataloger . . . we can attach to records but not enter anything from scratch. Somebody in Philadelphia has to enter the ones where we can't find a record. Or something like that. I know it's a pain.

Terri. I guess because we are a very small library in a small system things are less restricted? Dunno. It's pretty straightforward in millennium. I would be unhappy if we all had to go back to square one like you did.I cant even imagine how that felt. Besides we are basically even. Since you know the mysteries off ILL and the thought of it gives me hives
Linda. It's just. A reaction with me to reach out to asnimals. So much easier than reaching out to people. Much easier to trust them. Cruelty and or neglect of these loving beings make me ill. Makes me wish I were queen of the world. I agree. I think you would like WHEN I FOUND YOU.
I finished SING YOU HOME by Picoult. I liked it a lot.
I had a lovely time with my jody today. I returned a pair of khakis to kholes and bought grey pants. Thatl pleased me. I ran into someone from Watson. That did not please me...but more on that tomorrow. I am typing. On kindle and that's a dicey situation.

Another busy day here - hope you have the day off?
A friend in my RL book club rec Sing You Home and I have been keeping an eye out for that one. Have never read a book by Picoult so I am clueless. Now that I know you like it too, I'll look a bit harder. Maybe there is one on Ammy for a penny... plus S&H. Or... there are a few book sales coming up around here in the next month. I think there is a big one in Bath over the July 4th weekend, which is almost here! yikes.

Hi Cee :)
Yesterday morning I ran out to the flower store to buy more petunias and some lush beautiful sedum to plant on a small hillside in my backyard. I never really got online again for more than a minute. It is going to get warm/hot today, so I will do it this morning... Laura changed the schedule so I'm off today.
Picoult. Her books are similar in that I think everyone of them is partly played out in a courtroom. I really enjoyed Sing You HomeThe stories behind them are always good, at least the ones I've read... and I'm not ashamed to say that I've enjoyed them. They are all 3-4s for me. Like Dan Brown and Chirs Bohjalian, I often see her scorned here, but I find their books enjoyable and will continue to read them. I am, after all reading for me.. Of course with all of them, I like some of their books more than others. But I have never read one by any of them that I think is bad. I like a story, and these folks are storytellers.
My Sister's Keeper

The trucks are back. Noise. Ugh.
Turkey breast in the oven.. so it can cook while it's cool. So, the day is pretty well open before me..
I am starting to have second ( uh oh type ) thoughts about meeting other library folk for lunch tomorrow. I think my unexpected meet up with a watson person the other day shook me up more than I realized. I feel a little like locking myself in my room.. maybe more than a little.

Sorry to hear that you've been shaken, Kath. Please don't lock yourself in your room . . . at least, not without a big pile of books!
I hear you about Picoult and the others. I've not tried them -- but even if I tried them and didn't like them, lots of people don't like writers I like. We all like different books and authors. Speaking of storytellers (as you did in your last post) . . . have you read Picoult's latest book, The Storyteller ? I haven't read it, but one of my co-workers is raving about it and trying to get everyone to read it.

ARGH!!!!! I let the guys working on the road use my watering hose. I went out to water again, the plants that I just put in today and the sprayer is broken and the bits are gone. I had to carry water. 80 ish ft. Ouch.
Laura called me down to the library to show me something about running the movie for saturday. She should have shown me when I was working yesterday, but...... so I went down and there was an incident.
A guy behaving inappropriately toward Laura. I won't go into detail, but I called the police. It was my friend from finding the dog etc, last week :P I told him and he promised to see her to her car tonight and park out front other days she works til close.. I doubt that will actually happen, but he is giving her a number to call if she feels the need to be escorted.
It has been a long day. BUT my Amycat called me, and that was good. Still... it was long.

Bonnie. I cant figure out anything else that might have happened :( I filled the bird bath, and was done for the morning. I pulled it back to the front in case they needed it. Then I was busy inside. Now I did pull it to the back from the middle, and thought I broke it.. but I went to look for the piece and looked at where I had left it for them.. and looked all over the yard...following where I had pulled it. And it had the "face" of the sprayer pulled off, and the sprayer part was broken off. I can't swear that they broke it, but since I looked and looked and there was a limited area where they might be .. it's all I can think of :(
No I haven't said anything yet. I found it after they left yesterday, and they are just arriving today..

I went and bought a new sprayer for the hose. As it happened the one I wanted was there.. and right next to it was a card with that one and 2 others for the same price. I bought the three with a just in case in mind. Good thing. The one I wanted stopped working after 5 minutes. Wouldn't let water through for some reason. I was not amused.
I also bought another bird feeder to put near to the bird bath. I like having an avian resort .....
So, The road crew was in front of my house and I had to lug groceries half a block. *not amused* and very tired of all of this mess.
Oh and when I was shopping a 1 pound 11 oz jar of peanut butter fell out and onto my toe. ouch x a lot.

Kathleen - The morning is quickly getting away from me, but I have paid the bills and done two loads of laundry, so I am feeling pretty good about it. Hope you have a delightful lunch. Sorry about the peanut butter - ouch!

My iPad is loaded with books I mostly ignore. I'm another one just like Bonnie on this, although for me it's on my Kindle. A lot of them are public domain classics you can get for free.
What I need is to get stuck somewhere with nothing but my Kindle to read. I do carry it around just in case that happens, and it does come in handy in doctor's reception areas and that kind of thing. Biggest benefit: plane and train travel. Rather than stuffing a whole bunch of paper books in a backpack and still running out.

Hi Mamie.. I know, the last two days have flown by for me. I have been so wicked busy :( My toe is very swollen.. I got my birk sandals on with no problem , but that was shortly after it happened. It was tougher to get them off. ouch. drat.
Joe.. I am right with you on that! I do take advantage of the borrow this book thing on kindle, at least part of the time.
Back for librarians who lunch at Kelly's Island. A very nice time was had by all. I gave each of them a quartz crystal to celebrate solstice. We had lunch with our feet in the sand and palm trees all around. FABULOUS! Oh and the view was the Beaver river and boats drifting by.. no calming :)

Kath, you seem to have had some bad mojo going . . . broken sprayers, sprayers that refuse to work, long-distance grocery hauling, and attack jars of peanut butter . . . I hope your nice time at lunch is the beginning of an upswing in fortune, and that your toe feels better soon.

Hi Terri.. me too. I do love Kelly's and the Island is so nice.. I should have taken pictures. Guess we'll have to go back? Maybe next time with Jody.. ? dunno.
Ellen.. Since there are so many guys mentioned, I'm assuming you mean all of them. At this point, I am none to pleased with them either .. not any of them.
I have to say that I am a wee bit concerned about the guy who was inappropriate toward Laura. The police officer had a talk with him. He knows I am the one who reported him .. This makes me a wee bit nervous. I do walk about half a mile home. We have had an upsurge of crime ( although much of it is drug related) in this wee hamlet lately. Clearly, the dream I had last night ( that he shot me in the back of the head as I walked home) is testament to the fact that I am worried. I'm pretty sure I can't outrun him, especially if I don't see him. Especially with my probably broken big toe.
I watered the plants in flip flops last night.. and then Margie came over to porch. She made a comment about my feet being dirty ( they were.. there is nothing but soil around some of the plants and I sprayed and it sort of flew onto my feet :P ) I brushed the bottom of my foot and nearly went through the roof. I wonder How I am going to get through 7 hours on my feet. Laura was supposed to work with me today. She switched or something and I am working with Candy. There is a movie day scheduled. Popcorn. I am going to be very busy. There is lots of vacuuming and clean up in my future. Frankly, if 3 kids show up or 30.... popcorn is popcorn.. and messy.
Before work.. Mark is coming to do something on the cabinets in the bathroom .
grr. Too much going on. I'm not sure if Mark will actually do it though, because I have to leave at 9:30 and Dan had to work 6-2 I can't reach him to see if he wants to come earlier.
Terri.. I don't think the upswing is here yet. None of these things are really all that bad. It's just that there are so many little things .. ugh!

I don't know what kind of inappropriate behavior the man displayed towards Laura, but there's usually a long leap from hassling to harming someone. And your walk is not through an abandoned warehouse district, it's a neighborhood with people home. An unusual behavior wouldn't go unremarked.
245drneutron
Yeah, the new Gaiman went straight to my TBR. Glad to hear it's that good!

re usually a long leap from hassling to harming someone. I agree. There usually is. And sometimes there is no hassling, just harm. And I know what neighborhood I live in. One where three people followed a woman home from the drug store, and beat the crap out of her and took her meds. They did this on her front porch and no one helped her. I also know that when I was grabbed as a child, it was on a main street in broad daylight on one of the busiest corners. There were people everywhere, and not one of them stepped up to help me. Also, when I got beat up at work, it took a long time for anyone to step up and help me. It was a woman my age. I don't count on others to protect me. I am not as fast or resilient as I used to be. I don't heal as fast. Most days I see no one when I walk home. I have fallen in my own front yard after surgery and called for help and gotten none. I have been attacked by wasps and screamed and not even gotten a look. People don't help people anymore, for the most part. This guy is at least 6.1 and at least 250 pounds. And the age of one of my kids. So, yeah.. I am afraid at times. I know better than to look for help .. I couldn't even get it from my mother when I was being molested as a child. So, while I agree with you..
Jim :) it always makes me smile to see you! I didn't know that there was such a thing, but I will look and get one for myself. And maybe for a few others, too! I am not a Gaiman fan.. I loved that book. I can't wait to see your thoughts.
Joe, you might even be finished with it by now.. I need to check your thread!
Dreadful long day at work. 14 patrons all day. One child showed up for the movie...

Oh dear, Kath... I hope that your worries about this man will come to naught. I second Jim's suggestion that if you are worried about your walk home, given the increase in crime in your area and your fear that this man may hold a grudge and plan to harm you, that you carry a can of pepper spray on your keychain or in your pocket when you are out of the house. And make sure it's within easy reach.

Jumbo pepper spray is, I suppose an alternative - even brain-dead meat is better well seasoned! I would worry though that it may malfunction or that you'd panic if faced with a scenario which necessitated its use.

Caro... I'm sure that it will be fine. I just feel a wee bit vulnerable at the moment. My wrist and right arm are still painful, from tendonitis, my jot hurts halfway down my foot .. ouch. And I happen to know what is going on elsewhere in town. the whole town is 2.5 sq.miles in size. I work in a position to hear a lot of what is going on, and Margie is in frequent touch with the mayor through the neighborhood watch program. So the natives are restless right now. It will be fine. But I always welcome Caro hugs!
Paul.. I did find a keychain pepper spray on ammy. I bought one for me and one for Amy. That should make me feel like super woman! I put my stabby stabber thingy on my keychain. IT is something sold as safety device. I bought one for all the women in my family a couple of years ago... It isn't sharp. It just looks like one of those little kids crayons only longer. I can't imagine that it would be helpful as much more than a handle to use to swing my considerable key chain an whack them in the hand or head or whatever is near.
Ellen. Me too, but doubtful :P We need to pull out the bathroom sink today. and then we have to polyurethane the part he put in yesterday.. the laminate.. I like the color a lot. Working on the house makes Dan mean.
Hugs back Megan!
So far today, I have cooked the chicken for Dunkers, and am about to do the rice. I made pasta salad and have eggs cooking.. to have hard boiled eggs for salad. I like to put them in now and then, and they are good for Dan's lunch. I haven't made baked eggs for a while, too hot. Too hot to cook anything, really..
Point of information. If you buy a pair of pants for 4$ off a clearance rack and they feel like cardboard. washing them a dozen times will not help. Nor will cutting them into shorts. le sigh. But comfy or not, I have another pair of shorts. ( LONG shorts, trust me.. )

There are too many dental references and frankly I nearly took away a full star for that reason, but

RD Yawp. Dental references.. a gazillion of them :P ~~~ But I think many 9-10 year olds will miss some or most of them. Rd.. No help. Not ever. I haven't even gotten help when struggling with door or groceries or whatever the small things are. On the other hand, I offer help. I do so and hope that if one of my kids ever need a hand, they get it. So hopefully, that is the way it will be.
Joe. I know. Are you reviewing it? It is beyond me to do so. Also I am being lazy and blaming my ouchie toe.
How can I type if my toe hurts?
Mark.. I know that you will enjoy it. Glad it will be your first e-book. It will make you feel warmly towards e-books :)

I'm a bit of a wreck. My tendonitis is still flaring up and my to is quite ouchie. Could be much worse for sure.

Hi Kath, sorry to hear about the toe. Sorry, also, that you won't review the new Gaiman because you've got me intrigued.
267mckait
Bonnie... hello there ! thanks :). I think the reason that I can't wrap my brain around doing a review is that Dan is being really ......unpleasant. He has a passive aggressive way of being awful. Not to mention that he is spitting words at me instead of speaking in a civil manner. When he stopped into the library yesterday ... Laura looked at me when he left and said "I'm so sorry". So . . . reading the Gaiman was pure escape and it was wonderful. I was completely absorbed in the story. But seriously. I haven't written a review in weeks. Maybe months.
Terri, I am really tired of hurting myself. WTH? But, Oh good! You have the book...Do read it :) It is so short it won't take long. I'm not a huge fan of Gaiman.. I have read a book or three of his, but this one? I think it will be one that I remember for a very long time.
Well, I have cleaned the bathroom floor ( again) and hope he leaves off the sanding. The floor people are due here at 9. The walls were fine days ago, but he keeps adding more spackle and then sanding it off. I am at the end of my rope with it.
This morning I am off to buy paint. I plan to be at Lowes by 7. To achieve that I should be getting dressed soon. I can't find a color. I want a creamy color or a tan color or ? I wanted a grey, but realized it won't work with the wall tile in there. Or maybe it will. Anyone with suggestions call my cell phone! SRSLY.

Oh dear... it sounds like you are having more trouble with your bathroom re-do than I did with my kitchen. So sorry it's so messy. I know how it is... you have to keep up with it or it will get tracked all over the house :(
I don't know what to tell you about all your bad boo-boos. You have to take more care with yourself. An ounce of prevention would beat a pound of recovery. Stop doing all those nasty worky things so vigorously! Slow down - even if it means you don't get every little thing done. SRSLY.
Poor, poor Kath... you NEED a vacation. A nice quiet get-away...
Good luck with the paint. You have to look at the color samples to see what you like. It takes me forever to decide myself - but that is not the fault of the paint. I just can't make quick decisions. Still not 100% sure I picked the right color for our kitchen. Sometimes I love it and sometimes I wonder. It's just soooo different from the very dark red we had.
Finally got the bamboo shades up - lovely. Now I need a small butcher block prep table... it weighs over 200 pounds and I don't know how we will get it in the house, assembled, and in the kitchen. It might take the whole fire department!
This is it -

Hi Mark! so far so good, mostly. I have decided to shop at Not Lowe's. That will be better.
Cee... You are the second one today to tell me to slow down. Margie says she watches me heading to and from work and flying back and forth with groceries etc and that I go too fast. I don't know how to slow down, but I might have to figure it out, because I am tired of hurting myself. It makes me mad.
I am no good with paint colors. I will go to Best hardware tomorrow or the next day and talk to Patty. She is the paint lady who knows all the secrets so...
I like the butchers block table ! Nice! Where will it live in the kitchen? Don't you have a dolly? I do. I bought it for Dan, but I think I use it more. That and my shovel.. I have a special short one that doesn't try to win the battle of who's in charge.
Joe...If only. I would love a vacation. They are rare for me though. Dan's summer trip to Canada is coming up soon though, typically that is my vacation. I don't have to do anything for anyone except myself and my furkids. They are not grumpy, they are appreciative. I'm counting the days.
rd. Smooch back. I dunno. I want grey.
So I got the kids putting in my floor donuts for breakfast, and I made them turkey sandwiches for lunch. Also pasta salad and watermelon, a strawberry and a cookie. They are 26 and 30. They both left strawberry, and ate the cookie. :) It just made me smile.
I'm going to make them take the donuts with them when they go.. that way I won't eat any.
Still nary a tile. They have spread out the skim coat over the bathroom floor and are putting in sub floor for the hallway. I am so tempted to put Dunkers in the car and leave them to it, but I really would worry about the kitties getting out. So much noise.
I have an appt on July 2nd with an acupuncturist. General tune up and hopefully help with anxiety and weight loss. I'm going with Margie. We both have an appt. At least as long as he takes our insurance, Margie thinks he does. I need to call after 1:00 to give my info.

My thrill for the day. When I got the estimate for the floor, I asked if they take Discover. yes. Well, as of a few weeks ago it is cash or check only. I took the money planned for this job and put it on to pay off my discover card. I had one single check left.. ( I have more.. somewhere, I never use those things.. )
I am floored.

Hi Kath- If it shipped yesterday, you should have it in the next couple of days. And I see no reason why it's not there before the 1st. You sound a little anxious. LOL.

Hi Ellen :)
And the cool silence of the morning is once again broken by the screeches and growls of the great yellow beasts chewing up the streets and lawns on our street. I am much in need of some silence. le sigh.
I managed to get in some reading time yesterday amidst the bedam and power failures. I am reading The White Mare , which was sent my way by rdear. He meant for me to read it and place it on the shelves at work. I'm not sure that is going to happen, as I have purchased the other two books in the trilogy. I am really loving this one. A lot. Also, the cover is beautiful.
Do you mind rd?

Too much disturbance and ouchiness in your life at the moment Kath. Hope you manage to get some rest and relaxation soon.
Really pleased you have found something good to read - The White Mare looks like something I might enjoy:)

So, I just walked up the hill again. I heard the siren, turned on my computer scanner.. heard the adress next to Kims and flew out the door. All is well they say. There was a small ....I don;t know what to call it. They have been working on the gas lines in my town, on my street... etc. Kim lives at the bottom of my hill and one house in.
So I flew down the hill and went to her in case I could ....do something . . .
Did you ever put a dime or something on a record while the record player was going to see it fly off? That's how I feel. Still ouchie wrist, toe and ankle. And the ankle pain radiates down to the arch of my foot. I will be so pissed if I rractured it again :( It makes me feel frustrated. Did not read even a word of my beautiful book today. That makes me sad too. *Whine whine*

I see I need to repeat:
Please, slow down! I know you want to save the world... but you must take it slower ;-)
Glad everyone is ok.
