I made some improvements in "Vous et nul autre." I'm throwing this out there and going to bed.

Yours: http://www.librarything.com/profile/MEMBERNAME/stats/vousetnulautre

Mine: http://www.librarything.com/profile/timspalding/stats/vousetnulautre#

The enormous bluetyson: http://www.librarything.com/profile/bluetyson/stats/vousetnulautre#

The improvements are:

* It's faster, and therefore possible to see on the largest libraries.
* It's paginated, so it's faster—but if it needs extra pages, the pages will not necessarily be sorted. That is, it divides the books into chunks, but each page will have books from different users. That's life.
* It allows you to see books shared with no one, two people, three people, four people or five people.

It's a ULTB list! YaY!

Edited: May 7, 2014, 2:01am Top

>1 timspalding: Perhaps that explains why it claims I share a book I added recently with someone that appears not to have it?

"jtl shares Latin Book Two: Language, Literature, and Life"

I've searched his library, and he doesn't appear to. I'd found multiple other copies of it (listed under one of those broken authors that Amazon likes to create), and just posted about it over on Combiners! It's unlikely to still be showing in the Vous et nul autre by morning (assuming the Combiners! folks do their usual speedy magic), but just pointing out the anomaly in case you're interested.

I love all those little items in Stats and Memes, by the way, and thank you for it.

It's already vanished. It must have just shown up while you were adding the code. On the other hand, that's really a wonderful addition. **applause**

May 7, 2014, 2:09am Top

I love having the (long) list of singletons.

May 7, 2014, 4:03am Top

I noticed that the more members I share books with, the shorter the list: 0 members, 5 pages; 1 or 2 members, 3 pages; 3 or 4 members 2 pages; 5 members, 1 page. The same can be seen in bluetyson's lists: going from 92 pages to 5 pages.

May 7, 2014, 8:25am Top

Mine, too.

May 7, 2014, 8:57am Top

Very nice! Fast, too. Thanks!

May 7, 2014, 8:58am Top

Oh, great. Another time sink.

May 7, 2014, 9:36am Top

Nice way to confirm ULTB / singletons, and interesting to be able to identify other LTers who share a specific, not-the-usual-suspects work.

The primary addition I'd use would be to filter by collection, since many of my instances are from my wishlist. But it's useful as-is, thanks for the upgrade!

May 7, 2014, 9:45am Top

Nice way to confirm ULTB / singletons

What do you mean? It's the same data that you see in the social column of your catalog, so it's not a confirmation, just a different interface. Nothing for singletons that you couldn't get by sorting your catalog by total members.

May 7, 2014, 9:53am Top

Plus you can filter your catalog by collection and sort that list by total members (you need to use the sort button though) and elenchus has everything he or she wants.

Edited: May 7, 2014, 9:59am Top

It's the same data that you see in the social column of your catalog, so it's not a confirmation, just a different interface.

Right. But it's simple, handy and compact. So there's that.

It's already vanished. It must have just shown up while you were adding the code. On the other hand, that's really a wonderful addition. **applause**

Hmm. Let's wait for a solid example and then I'll look into it.

I would note that the way it's done--mostly for speed reasons--is susceptible to some short-term problems with combination.

May 7, 2014, 10:01am Top

Oh, I'm not denigrating it. But it's not an "independent confirmation" of the data the way elenchus seemed to be implying.

May 7, 2014, 11:53am Top

>10 lorax: thru >13 lorax:

I didn't clarify: I use tag ULTB to mark singletons, which I assign using the very methods pointed out. The independent confirmation is of my tag assignment, not of the original interface. It amounts to the same thing, but it's all there for me, as Tim points out.

May 7, 2014, 3:11pm Top

Like it a lot! Thanks! I now feel anally compelled to recheck my 'unique' books for uncombined fellows...

May 7, 2014, 5:31pm Top

>15 konallis:

That sounds like a lot of work. My "unique" books are mostly genuinely unique to my catalog, I think.

Edited: May 7, 2014, 5:43pm Top

>15 konallis: Likewise! I'm looking at my books and thinking "I can't believe no-one else has that!"

May 7, 2014, 6:34pm Top

> 16, 17

You'd be surprised. I have been checking by title, and it's interesting how often the same book is listed with either different authors (pre-"other authors") or with an edition not showing an author at all.

May 7, 2014, 6:46pm Top

What I have been finding, though, is two works that are obviously the same with a title very similar to mine. Also books needing to be combined by my authors, just not a second copy of my book. Lots of combining, but not actually of my books.

Edited: May 7, 2014, 7:48pm Top

Thank you, this is great!

I can't believe no one else has read Violations: Stories of Love by Latin American Women, that book was fantastic.

Edit- I know some of you guys take pride in being the only person who's read a book, but does anyone else see one that the rest of us just have to read? I'm also the only person who's read Hannah Hawkins and her Neighbor, which is short, public domain, and amusing enough that it is a shame.

May 7, 2014, 10:44pm Top

> 20

The fact that someone doesn't have a book in their library doesn't mean they haven't read it. (Conversely, of course, the fact that a book is in their library doesn't mean they have read it!)

May 7, 2014, 10:53pm Top

True, true. I always forget this isn't Goodreads.

May 8, 2014, 4:09am Top

Yeah, anything I read prior to becoming active on LT is almost certainly not cataloged (there are a very rare few that have been). And tons of things purchased since joining that have been, but not yet read.

May 8, 2014, 4:53am Top

I do like the way it now says:

Only thorold has Unsustainable Positions

...although I'm sure I've seen plenty of those in other people's Talk postings.

Not surprisingly, there seem to be fewer and fewer singletons and VNA's every time I look. The singletons are now all things I would class as deservedly obscure, with the possible exception of My recollections by Lord Cardigan's second wife, Adeline de Horsey, a classic bit of subversive Victoriana that was quite a scandalous bestseller in its day.

I was always a bit confused at the title of this feature as it was limited to two or more shared works. now, using the 0 column you really can see what Vous et nul autre books you have. Great!

May 9, 2014, 2:08pm Top

The Vous was referring to the one other person that shares your book, not to you. So the books you share with one other person are the true Vous et nul autre books.
