We need a thread to organize our group reads for the year. Here's where we'll announce and plan them as they come up.

I may have put this question on the wrong thread so I will put it here also.
Are we going to do the joint Group reads with the 2015 Category Challenge Group like we did last year?

I didn't track group reads in the Category Challenge last year, but when a group read thread shows up in our group, I add it to the wiki. It seemed to work out pretty well, so I'm up for doing the same this year.
The nice thing about a wiki is that anyone can edit it, so if there's something someone wants to track, it's easy to do!

The first Biography Group Read in the Category Challenge is Call the Midwife. We will be reading it during the first quarter, and would be happy to have people from here join us.

Does anyone want to do a group read for Banewreaker by Jacqueline Carey? @Kassilem and I are both planning to read it in 2015.

A few folks are joining me in reading the first 6 Navajo Navajo mysteries by Tony Hillerman alternating with the first 6 Longmire mysteries by Craig Johnson. Stop on by and comment if you have already read them.
I'll post the link to the thread once I've started it.

Everyone is welcome to join the Green Dragon monthly reads. It rotates between fantasy, science fiction, mystery, and nonfiction. This month we are reading A Fistful of Sky by Nina Kinki Hoffman and in February we are reading The Speed of Dark by Elizabeth Moon. March is A Study in Scarlet by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and April is A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson.
You can find the entire schedule for the year and monthly thread links at http://www.librarything.com/topic/184976.

Just a reminder that the group read of Anthony Trollope's The Eustace Diamonds will be beginning next weekend---I will have the thread up ready for an "official" start on 1st February.
Everyone welcome, and the more the merrier! :)

Please check out the wiki page for new entries. I just added The Scarlet Letter and A Confederacy of Dunces to March and June respectively. I'm flexible regarding the dates so if someone wants to read them but at a different time, just holler and we'll change it.
If no one else signs up at the start of the respective months, I'll remove them from the wiki.
Also, please remember to add any other group reads not already on the wiki. Makes it much easier for everyone.
The wiki is here: http://www.librarything.com/wiki/index.php/2015_Group_Reads

There will be a tutored read of Jane Austen's Mansfield Park in March - all welcome! When the thread is up I will post a link here.

And the thread is now up for the tutored read of Mansfield Park.

Is there a general tutored read thread? I can't find one anywhere. I know this is totally a long-shot, but I was wondering if anybody wanted to do a group read or tutored read of any of these works:
Epic of Gilgamesh
Egyptian Book of the Dead
Holy Bible - there's probably a whole group somewhere on LT that's doing this
I'll post this on my own thread, as well.
Likewise, if anyone's interested in fairy tales, I'm reading Andrew Lang's fairy books and would be happy to have company on that task. :) I've started (and am about half-way through) The Grey Fairy Book.

23PawsforThought
If anyone does want to tutor a reading of the Epic of Gilgamesh, let me know. I won't be reading it now (have my plate full) but would love to check a tutored read when I do get around to reading it.

>21 The_Hibernator: Is there a general tutored read thread?
There is not a specific tutored read thread now, but I think one for each year would be a good idea. Perhaps a link to that thread from message #1 on this thread would also be a good idea.

@ 21 I'd be interested in Gilgamesh, but I'd be reading a German translation (which I'd have to find first...)
27The_Hibernator
>26 aquascum: If no one else is open to reading it with us, we could make a very small group read if you're interested. It would be nice to have company. :) And it's possible that someone else would join us once we set up a thread.
When would you have time to read it?
Just so that you know, I'm going to really delve in. I've got the Norton Critical Edition, which includes some essays, and I'll also try throwing in a few supplemental books like The Archetypal Significance of Gilgamesh, The Gilgamesh Epic and Old Testament Parallels, and Somewhere I Have Never Travelled. If we had a thread set up, I would probably share some information gleaned from those books as well. Thus, it'll probably take me some time to complete my Gilgameshian journey.
Hopefully that doesn't scare you away? I would love to have company.

Oh, sounds interesting! That you have supplementary reading is exellent. I have a fairly recent translation (... somewhere *scowls at bookshelves*) , and I expect reading different language translations will be even more interesting.
Next week RL will require brain candy reading, but I'm game after!

Great. Why don't I start up a thread to see if I can find any more people who are interested. :) We can start sometime mid-to-late March. I have to wait till my book arrives in the mail. ;)
