2016 Annual Challenge : Tour the World 2
Read Mystery and Suspense Books that take you Around the World in 2016.
Rules:
1. Each Mystery and Suspense book you read can be allocated to a city the book is based in or visits in the course of the book;
2. Each book can only be allocated to one city;
3. Only 1 book to be scored for each city.
Most important rule : Have Fun Whilst You Are Reading.
The aim is to try and visit as many cities around the world as possible during the year.
Please list cities alphabetically (along with the country name, .eg. London, England) and record the book that counts for that city. Add to the list of cities as you read the books.
Good luck and don't forget your passport.
To show you have read books either tick them once read, date them or record the star rating. At the bottom of the main post record the number of countries visited.
Remember the aim is to have fun whilst you are reading, and if we do then we are all winners. This is more important than how many cities you visit.
Don't forget you can always Send a Postcard from the cities!

>6 dustydigger: I always get stuck in the U.S and England. As you can see I've done it again although I do have more from different countries than I usually do. I'm going to apply for duel citizenship:)
Go ahead and do your galaxies and planets...it will be more than interesting:)

>11 dustydigger: Nothing wrong with your list. At least you haven't gotten stuck in one place like I always do:) I always find myself either in the U.S. or England. I'm going to have to ask England for duel citizenship at this rate.
13LibraryCin
>5 Carol420: I see you are sticking with countries! I decided not to keep track this year, using cities. I guess I could have just continued on with countries, as well.
The majority of mine, I'm sure would have been the US and England, as well, likely with Canada coming in next.
Maybe I'll keep track again next year.

>14 Andrew-theQM: Have you read Louise Penney? I've read a couple and I'll admit to not being as enamoured of her as many other people are, but plenty of people really like her.
Off the top of my head, that's who I can think of, but maybe I can come up with more ideas and let you know!

>28 EadieB: Sounds like a good suggestion but would have to wait until September when I am able to access physical books from the library. We head off for the Scottish highlands and north coast in four weeks.

Andrew, I'm envious!
38Andrew-theQM
Just need to get there! 19 school days to go, but still need to get back our Key Stage 2 Test Results, analyse them, finalise Results for two other phases in school, read and write comments for 400 reports, write my final report for governors, and make full plans for September! No sweat!

Andrew, it looks like many people have jumped in with suggestions!
>22 EadieB: And why didn't I think of this one!!!? Still Missing was a (rare) 5 star read for me earlier this year!

Did you know you can do what's they call a "tagmash" here?
You can combine tags and it will bring back a list of books for you.
Type the tags into the search box at the top right. When it loads, click "tags" from the left menu. From there, it should give you the option to do a tagmash.
The tag mash for canada, mystery gave me these books here:
http://www.librarything.com/tag/Canada,+mystery
Others I've read from that list include:
The Tenderness of Wolves / Stef Penney
I thought this was ok. Historical mystery, and I still can't figure out why - though I like both mystery and historical fiction - I'm not always a fan of historical mystery!
The Way the Crow Flies / Ann-Marie MacDonald.
This made my favourites list the year I read it. I suppose it's also historical mystery, but more recent. If I'm remembering correctly, it was set in the 1960s?

>43 LibraryCin: whoa. that was awesome! Tagmash is a great feature! I just used it to find a historical fiction novel set in Australia to fill one of my Expanding Horizons challenge categories. Actually, it introduced me to an 11-book series, so Mt. TBR grows again!
45LibraryCin
>44 Darth-Heather: A trick some of us used at shelfari where we could combine tags was to tag our tbr with our initials (or something that will be mostly unique to you). If you were looking for something specifically on your tbr for something, combine the tags. I've done that here, as well, so I can search for whatever tag I'm looking for and combine it was csw (my initials). Makes it easy to find things already on your tbr that will fit a particular tag/theme.
46Darth-Heather
>45 LibraryCin: my TBR is an actual pile of about 100 physical books, so when I need to find something I just have to dig in. I honestly expect to read them all eventually, but I seem to get new ones faster than I can read them.
I have a Wishlist on Bookmooch where I add things I hope to get, and either someone mails them to me or I make a list from there when I go book shopping.
I haven't worked with tags much in the past, but it looks like it will be fun to spend some time on that. I like the Tagmash idea for finding stuff I haven't heard of before. Now I need to find a book set during Christmas, and an author with my initials :)

>46 Darth-Heather: Good luck with your current hunt!
I used to use Bookmooch, but mailing books from Canada (anywhere, including within our own country!) is so expensive, I pretty much gave up on it. I suppose I still have some credits/points to spend, but it's been so long since I logged in, I can't even remember.

Just visited number 25! Still a way to go to match some of you, (never going to happen, ha!).
49Sergeirocks
Another two added to the list - creeping up slowly but surely...
50dustydigger
I am also creeping, very slowly. 22 so far,so I have outdone my countries target for last year's challenge. But its sometimes frustrating when I am on Dartmoor, the Lake District,or in Kent,or California, and either no town is given,or some fictitious one ! lol.And of course, all those cities in outer space locations.Plus all those dozens of books in NY,London or L.A,which cant count. So I am actually pretty pleased with 22!Plus the range of places is quite interesting lol.
Great challenge. Will we be repeating it next year?

That's 30 - wonder how many more I can fit in before the end of the year?
52Andrew-theQM
I reckon you can get another 15 in, giving your recent reading pace.

I'm looking for one or two books that are Not set on the continent of Europe or North America.
Any suggestions?

Two questions:
There are 7 continents so Europe and North America are out. So that leaves South America, Africa, Australia, Asia, Antartica. Right?
What genre are you looking for?

Well done Sergei, and well done everyone else on their city hopping over the past year. Some wonderful cities visited, but no matter where we went unfortunately a murderer or evil megalomaniac was never far away!
