I am fresh outta ideas as to what it should be, though.

I still have to read my Happy Heathens book, finish one of this month's Real Life book club book and read my hopefully soon to arrive in the mail Early Reviewer book.

:o/

I think I'll have to pass, unless you make it Late Autumn.

Then again, it takes us two weeks to decide on something!
LOL
I might be able to do it after all.
Keep it SHORT, though.

How about a YA?

One of Heinlein's juveniles

The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster

Dealing with Dragons by Patricia Wrede

So You Want to be a Wizard by Diane Duane

The Little Prince by Saint-whatshisname

The Wonderful World of Oz by Baum

Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt

Short and YA sounds good, I'd like to join again. I missed the last read because I was so busy, and I didn't like it so much!

If it's Autumn you want, nobody does it better than New England, thus it ought to be Edgar Allan Poe's The Fall of the House of Usher and Others you should read...

I would love an excuse to read The Phantom Tollbooth again! I haven't read that for years.

I'd vote for the little prince which is just charming, and short. Weird author touchstone. I'll go combining and see if I can sort it out. Should be Antoine De Saint-Exupery who doesn't touchstone.

Weird the 75k name is the lead name for the whole combination of Antoine names. It's gonna take a while to sort out.

#3 jpb, great choice we love this in our house - anybook that has lines like "goodbye bears and goodby chairs" has got to be a classic. As it doesn't seem to have many takers, maybe we could just post some of the text and have a competition for a few more lines...

Oh dear... everyone has a selection in mind!

Since this read was PeaBee's idea, I'm going to let him narrow it down and start a voting thread. LOL

How about humorous sci-fi Better than life a red dwarf book? (Only semi-serious)

How about Dealing With Dragons already have it in my TBR pile & then I'd have reason to read it now-just a suggestion!

I finished reading Goodnight Moon, when are we going to talk about it?

Goodnight cow jumping over the moon!

Anyone like Umberto Eco? I have The Island of the Day Before in TBR pile.

I would love to read either Phantom Tollbooth or The Little Prince. Umberto Eco is too dense for me.

I have stumbled across a big controversy regarding The Golden Compass. I think some members of the fundamentalist Christian churches in the USA are circulating a "boycott it" message, claiming Pullman is all about killing god. Perhaps reading The Golden Compass would be a good YA read and also let us decide if it really is about killing god.

Decided then. An Umberto Eco YA book about the moon.

*goes to look*

Since the movie is coming out, The Golden Compass may be a good read.

I've never read The Phantom Tollbooth or The Little Prince, so either of those would be great.

The Little Prince is an excellent suggestion! And this would prompt me to purchase it. :)

As to The Phantom Tollbooth - well, even as a child I found it to be a bit 'too fond of its cleverness' I'm not sure I would like it any better now.

Well the Golden Compass is on my 'To Buy List' to place on my TBR list so I wouldn't mind that one...

I'm about 1/2 way through The Golden Compass right now. If y'all decide to do that one, I'm in.

I love the The Phantom Tollbooth.

The Golden Compass - for the upcoming movie and (mostly) because of the controversy.

I actually just picked up The Golden Compass this morning for a reread. So I'm all set if we choose this one :o)

I read The Golden Compass too recently to want to read it again. I prefer The Little Prince or The Phantom Tollbooth.

I heard that The Golden Compass wasn't the controversial one, it was the sequels. I haven't read the first because my daughter read it and didn't like it. She thought it seemed like a knock off of too many other "children save the day" books.

I think boycotting and banning books is a great way to get them read by many. :)
