A few weird things are going on with author touchstones:

1) Authors are listed as touchstones on a thread where they should not be. For example, this thread https://www.librarything.com/topic/243783 has Danielle Steel listed as a touchstone on the right side when none of the in-thread touchstones have to do with her.
ETA: looks like this could be a long-time existing bug: https://www.librarything.com/topic/157098

2) When you are creating a touchstone for an author and you click "(other)", all kinds of variations of the author's name show up on the list, even if they are combined into the correct author. For example:

3) Sometimes, when you have saved a message, but you edit the message in order to change the author touchstone, the system thinks that an author touchstone is a work touchstone and the results of "(other)" are presented as if you had touchstoned that author's name with single brackets instead of double. For example:

1) could be a known bug. If you insert a work touchstone that defaults to the wrong book, then correct the book, the author of the first one will still show up in the list in the sidebar. https://www.librarything.com/topic/157098

Also related to >1 norabelle414:'s #1: http://www.librarything.com/topic/199101.

This seems to be fixed for new threads.

Testing. Can't reproduce #3 yet.

William Peter Blatty

>6 kristilabrie: I'm still seeing problem #3 but it's a little different now.

When I touchstone William Peter Blatty, the correct link shows up on the right, but if I click "others" to see what the other options are, I see this:

Then I hit "close" and preview the message, and the touchstone is broken. If I then delete the two closing brackets and retype them, the touchstone is fixed AND I see author options when I click "others" like I'm supposed to.

ETA: when I edit this message and click "others" I'm still getting the same as in the screenshot of #3 of >1 norabelle414:

Josephine Tey gives the same result, just to be certain it's not that particular author

Okay, yeah, I see that too. This happens for me if I type the closing 2 brackets quickly, without pausing to let the Touchstones search for works first after my 1st closing bracket. Seems to be some sort of speed/searching issue for Touchstones. See http://www.librarything.com/topic/247638#6069641 for full details.

William Peter Blatty

This seems to be working for me now!

How does it look on your end, @norabelle414?

>10 kristilabrie: The new problem (with all the random Harry Potter books) seems to be fixed, but I'm still seeing problem #2 and #3 from >1 norabelle414: above.

#3 seems to be fixed now as well. But I still see all potential variations of an author's name, even ones that are combined into the main author, when I click "other"

Gotcha. I'll be running through leftover Touchstone bugs with Tim today (re: http://www.librarything.com/topic/258839), including the one that shows combined authors separately (and linking to main/disambiguation author rather than split authors).
