I've kind of been thinking maybe some newcomers to our group do not know what HEG stands for. It's a term that we use often, and rather than anyone feeling shy about asking, why not tell them?

Would the next poster on this thread like to say? And then after that, perhaps some of you would like to find some examples.

HEG's where do I begin to explain about HEG's.

Hot English Guys.

They are Hot. English and male.

It doesn't get better than that, my friends.

Henry Cavill: I know he looks a little sinister and silly with those pants but look into the eyes ladies... mmmm

6Kerian
Jan 7, 2008, 7:03 pm

Gez, I thought if anything would help tease the GD about post count, it would be a thread devoted to HEGs! Was I wrong? ;)

Once and for all, Johnny's not a HEG. But he is awesome.

In the meantime, an actual HEG.

I know some people don't get the Daniel Craig thing.

Here's someone about whom we can all agree, n'est-ce pas?

16Always_Reading
Jan 8, 2008, 12:06 am

Better...those look like elf ears though. Who is he?

17Always_Reading
Jan 8, 2008, 12:07 am

Sorry, #16 in referance to #14.
lg, your HEGs all have mussed hair...

18littlegeek
Jan 8, 2008, 12:08 am

Do you mean Jude Law?

OK, I'm getting tired. suge will take over at some point. Well, ok, this one is for suge, but that's it!

19Always_Reading
Jan 8, 2008, 12:10 am

I have no idea who any of these men are lg...so I have no clue!
I know #18 is Rober Pattison though! (ask me how I figured that one out! just kidding.)

24Always_Reading

Is that the guy that plays Samwise in LoTR?

A-R are you SURE you're a girl? How can you not know Colin Firth when you see him?

Sorry, never mind.

29foggidawn
Jan 8, 2008, 12:16 am

#22 is Colin Firth, who played Mr. Darcy in the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice. I'm not a rabid fan, but I'm pretty sure there are some around here somewhere.

30Always_Reading
Jan 8, 2008, 12:16 am

Well lg, his hair's messed up...he's yours!
Not to say I don't like guys with bad hair days.

31Always_Reading
Jan 8, 2008, 12:17 am

lg, I'm female through and through...trust me. I just don't get out much. Make that, I don't watch TV, and hardly any movies, so my HEG exposure has been severely limited.

#33 how could you not know?

37littlegeek

Sean Astin's mom in Patty Duke. You know Patty Duke!!???!!

38Always_Reading
Jan 8, 2008, 12:23 am

I told you...I'm so seriously disconnected from the world...
You have no idea how many people at school used to tease me about this. And people still do a lot.

39Always_Reading
Jan 8, 2008, 12:23 am

Oh, I've heard of Patty Duke...she played in some Broadway musicals, right?

40littlegeek
Jan 8, 2008, 12:24 am

Sorry, A-R, didn't mean to put you down. It's just surprising. #33 is Hugh Grant.

I still can't believe rissa knows Patty Duke. The woman is a genius.

41littlegeek
Jan 8, 2008, 12:26 am

Patty Duke is, sigh, a great actress. She got famous as a child actor playing the part of Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker. Later, she played the Annie Sullivan part.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, google it. And then rent the movie.

42Always_Reading
Jan 8, 2008, 12:27 am

It's fine lg...I really don't care.

"Sticks and stones

43rissa
Jan 8, 2008, 12:27 am

yes, I know Patty Duke. my older sister and Reena have even been in a play with her. (she thinks I'm tall, I know random, but she called me tall the last time I saw her and most people call me short.)

44Always_Reading

Have you ever met Sean?

48Always_Reading
Jan 8, 2008, 12:30 am

It's sad how much crap he gets from his role in the LoTR.

49littlegeek
Jan 8, 2008, 12:31 am

So, A-R do you like the HEG's so far?

50littlegeek
Jan 8, 2008, 12:31 am

What crap? I thought he was brilliant!

51foggidawn
Edited: Jan 8, 2008, 12:59 am

I think she means all of the Frodo/Sam stuff. It always makes me laugh, because in the books, Sam is one of three characters who actually gets the girl!

(The other two being Aragorn and Faramir, in case anyone was wondering.)

Edited to add, I thought his acting was brilliant, as well. But I can't really think of an example of bad acting in the LotR films.

52littlegeek
Jan 8, 2008, 12:35 am

Well, Elijah is pretty cute....(I'm kidding!)

53foggidawn

54MDLady
Jan 8, 2008, 7:52 am

HEG's...that's easy. Hot Earth Guys, now everyone is welcome. But I do admit myself that I think that accent is darn sexy.
Elijah is not English, but he plays one..so can we do HFEG's?
Hot Fake English Guys.

55Kerian
Edited: Jan 8, 2008, 10:21 am

A_R, I don't know who a lot of them are without being told, either. I don't know names of actors/actresses much at all because I watch much tv or that many movies. Instead I'll say something like 'remember that guy from the movie _____ who played _____ - he's in this movie, too!' (Or in the case of animated movies, 'that's his voice playing _____!')

56foggidawn
Jan 8, 2008, 10:22 am

#55 -- I'm usually the same way. Hanging around HE has contributed to my education, as far as actor names go.

57Kerian
Jan 8, 2008, 10:26 am

It's helped me with names, too. I remember when I asked suge who Henry Cavill was. Can you imagine her reaction? ;)

hm...you've got a very, very good point there rissa.

It's interesting to note people's different tastes in Hegs and other cattegories. Some I agree with, some others I don't...but that's just me!

*mutters*
Rupert...blah.

77rissa
Jan 13, 2008, 1:53 am

I think we all have different tastes in HEGs partially due to our different age groups. (Rupert is to young for me, some of the others are too old) and everyone has a slightly different idea of what's hot.

Suge, what do you think of my idea to cast Henry as Regulus?

104foggidawn
Edited: Apr 15, 2008, 1:26 pm

Regulus has been cast! I went to www.hpana.com to find links for the lawsuit controversy thread, and saw this article. What do you think?

ETA: looking at the article, he appears in one of Slughorn's pictures in the HBP movie -- will be interesting to see if they use him for the DH movies, too.

105biblioholic29
Apr 15, 2008, 1:54 pm

Okay I can't read the article right now, cause I'm "working" but I glanced and what? Regulus Black in HBP? When is Reg in HBP, except his name?!

106littlegeek
Apr 15, 2008, 2:05 pm

Yes, I was thinking DH for Regulus. Unless i'm forgetting how it all worked. I just remember everyone speculating about who RAB was before DH came out.

I think they kid they chose has the right look for Reg.

110MDLady

That's Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan! (aka Pippin and Merry, respectively) I find them attractive mostly becuase I think they're hilarious. If you watch the extended LOTR with the cast commentary, you will LOL muchly! I love a man who can make me laugh!

126littlegeek
Apr 16, 2008, 4:13 pm

I love their commentary. Except by the third movie, all the actors had to say was whether that scene was done "in pickups" or not. As though we care. ;-)

#126 You know what I would love is if they did a commentary that was just Dom and Billy, they're hilarious, and I really didn't care much about what anyone else had to say. Especially Sean and Elijah, so dull! (By the way, I read Sean's book, he has serious inferiority issues!)

134littlegeek
Apr 16, 2008, 6:14 pm

#133 Hey, who could turn out normal if their mom was Patty Duke?

He sure did inherit her talent, tho, huh? His scenes in LOTR make me cry ever time. (I thought of another one--at the end of FOTR when he says, "Mr. Gandalf told me, "don't you leave him, Samwise Gamgee" and I don't mean to" *sob*)

When reading his book though it's very obvious that he has a complex from being an actor, he uses big words just for the sake of using them and goes on and on about having a Bachelor's degree. It's the way he does it, it's very obvious. It is a pretty interesting read if you can get past that. It's not just about LOTR. He talks about his mom and being worried that he might be Bipolar too. About John Astin and how it was him working on the Frighteners that made Sean want to do LOTR. And then of course there's some fun behind the scenes LOTR stuff too, the famous tatoos, original Aragorn, etc. Oh yeah, he whines about his weight a lot too. Oh well!

Oh yeah, and he's cute here:

You know, she had complained the Cullen's were too pasty, but Edward isn't in this Twilight poster I found. We must wait till we see the movie previews before accusing the movie of making them look like Geishas, I figure.

Robert Pattinson as Edward...

Billy Burke as Charlie...

Jackson Rathbone as Japer...

Kellan Lutz as Emmet...

Peter Facinelli as Carlisle...

Cam Gigandet as James...

Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black...

215suge
Aug 16, 2008, 8:24 am

I can't imagine a place where I wouldn't like boys. So boys in ships ---sail or rocket---are very welcome! Thanks! I've been meaning to read the Horatio Hornblower series and watch the movies but where does a girl get the time for everything? I also don't trust the publication dates nor the order in which he books are displayed at the book store.

What I mean is that sometimes a Jane Austen book would be copywritten in 1995. I know better than that, but what about authors that are less known to me? How do I know which book to read first? Look at Clive Staples Lewis (his name is sooo English) his Narnia books are all out of order. I suppose I could google these things, but do you understand what I'm saying?

216dreamlikecheese
Aug 16, 2008, 8:33 am

As far as I'm aware, the first Hornblower book is "Mr Midshipman Hornblower". After that it's all a blur. The first Hornblower in the TV series is called "The Even Chance", though I believe they have different titles in America to England/Australia. In fact, I just went and looked it up and it appears to be called "The Duel" for those of you looking for it in the US.

OK, I may have suggested that my husband take the kids bike riding because I thought it might help them to sweat out the rest of this stoopid virus that they've had for a week now and it may have backfired and actually caused all their fevers to go back up...

Yes, suge, please stay away until this horrible thing is out of the house. I'm not even sick and I'm ready to put my head through a wall if they don't get better soon.

By the way, you guys are not just saying that so I don't come over, right? I know your son definately doesn't want me in the house, and your youngest holds only the most acute contempt possible for me. I can't come over, not even if I bring my cat spa services to your home?

I think suge needs some more HEGs. Google!

Hey, it's that Eragon guy! (apparently his name is Edward Speleers) He's 20.

William Moseley, 21

Hmmmm...it says his name is Brandon Wilson, he's 6'2 (good height, right?), has dark blonde hair, and green eyes.

Okay, I found him and I know he's not English but...

More Americans

It's Chad! (he's 27)

Marco Dapper........he was on the cover of Men's health, suge! (25)

How old is this guy, suge? He looked so young in Eragon! ERAGON SPOILER! And, he was fifteen, turning sixteen in the book...He was seventeen in the movie. No, no, no, no, non, mon Grasshopper, you are refering to Ed Speleers:

and the lovely gorgy upstairs in 263 is Ben Barnes who played Prince Caspian in er... what was the name of that movie?... Prince Caspian, he was also in Stardust:

Here he is as P.C. in er.... P.C. (he's the taller fellow):

267biblioholic29

I'm not seeing the Prince Caspian pic. For K, since you keep asking, looks like the Speeler kid is 20 now. Ben Barnes (who I checked on imdb as soon as I got home from Prince Caspian) is a wonderfully non-cringe inducing 27.

KIK.

I did tell you, silly.

Photo Re-Sizing with HEGs: A Beginner's Guide

For copies of my book, please refer to the following link, Photo Re-Sizing with HEGs. Resizing photos of HEGs is just two mouse clicks away, fifty percent guaranteed. (Heehee.) If you can't wait for your ordered purchase of my book to arrive in the mail, here's a preview tell-all guide:

Take your usual photo code info

Between the closing/end quotation marks and the last carrot/aligator mouth, you're going to enter in some extra information. ( " RightHere > )

Where I wrote the words RightHere, place in this information without any spaces:
height = " HeightYouWant " width = " WidthYouWant "

The height and width can only be entered using numbers. To give you an estimate, the covers displayed on my profile page are 100 for height and 68 for width.

Let's practice photo resizing.

translates as ...

Resizing to twice in a half as large . . . 250 X 170

Does this help? :)

314Kerian
Edited: Oct 9, 2008, 3:22 pm

And since you want to make Henry's pic kind of larger, let's get you a better size estimate...

KIK! To think I'm teaching you resizing photos with HEGs! This should be a class or something, right? ;)

ETA: Humbug! I have to leave now. I'll check to see your photo resizing progress after I'm home from work. 9pmish LT time. Adios!

315littlegeek
Edited: Oct 9, 2008, 3:24 pm

Resizing....naw, I won't go there.

So anyway, who's up for a little HEG action...I feel in the mood for someone I wouldn't go to jail for coveting, how about the lovely Dr. House, Hugh Laurie.

And here he is as I first saw him, as the idiot prince in BlackAdder. Handsome, musical and funny--the Trifecta of hotness!

yeah, the pick the link goes to is in-between takes. they always bundle actors then if it's even a little cold because they usually can't be bundled when they are filming. they filmed in Oregon, not Washington, but it's still rainy the place they filmed, so they were probably trying to protect the actors' hair, clothes, and makeup from the rain.

...and yet, we want to think this one could not help himself and that he might have been sweet. Such a lonely and confused man is Edward Scissorhands!

What? Is Depp an honorary Englishman now? I thought he lived in Paris?

353Kerian

Eh. HEG, HPG (?), HAG, whatever. ;)

Kerian knows I can't resist the allure of Johnny. Even when he has uglified himself into oblivion.

I think the Willy Wonka is the most disturbing. "You're weird."

And ya, he's not a HEG. But he does a passable English accent.

kik! Right you are. ;) I agree, he's close enough to being a HEG.

I just saw this HEG in a movie tonight. The dvd was purchased scratched so we couldn't watch the last twelve minutes of the movie. ('Across the Universe' - sister's choice. It's so weird!)

Dreamy! You should catch him in 21, but he doesn't have the cute accent in it.

And HUMUNA HUMUNA! to "the taller gentleman", ("better and better").

You know, most of these are really, really HEGgy...
but some of them are really, really...racy!

You all have fun! I'm going to bed. Night!

welcome, katillac. You may need to know that HEG = Hot English Guy. I don't think any of the lovely gentlemen you posted are actually English. But yay! They're hot.

Thanks for reviving the thread.

At least one is a HEG:

James Marsters and John Barrowman

Actually, they're both American...

369Mandy2
Jan 12, 2010, 9:50 am

But one played an Englishman and the other was on an English TV show, well two...so I count them and honorary HEGs

370LadyN

John Barrowman is half scottish...

Guys, guys, guys... HEG started out as Hot English Guys. But I think that the movement has evolved to encompass all manner of godlike male creatures. All nationalities, races, religions and ages of gorgeous men are welcome. If the world were a HEG, it would be, well a beautiful place to live.

Soooo tall and soooo dreeeeeamy... Rupert Penry-Jones

Whats he hiding under all that velvet, you say?

We left out one of the Mr. Darcys--and this one really is a HEG. Well, except for being dead now.

I cannot tell you how glad I am that someone revived this hot guys topic. I had not seen it before, and well...and now I can't stop.

What is the dang code for posting pictures on here??? Because we need a much better one of Daniel Craig. The one in the bathing suit on the beach. Hubba hubba.

My HEG is Alan Rickman. That voice of his makes him hot. I want him to whisper sexy somethings in my ear.

Venus, the code is (with no spaces unless specified)

Alan Rickman is a god.

Try to control yourself, Foggi!

I left a message on her profile page--and had to go back and leave a second, as everything I typed after the opening angle bracket disappeared. Tricky, that.

I love the Rickman character cards. Fabulous.

time to debut new Hegs!!! You ladies are slacking!!

Kunal Khemu a HIG I want to get higgie with...

I think Jim Sturgess is soooo cute

Idris Elba... All I've got to say is PHWOAR!!!

At first I couldn't STAND Russell Brand, but he won me over in "Bedtime Stories", and a few other films. and if he promises to comb his hair from time to time... we might just keep him on our HEG list.

And no... Chiwetel is not a debut, but how can anyone complain when that shirt looks sooooo gooooood on him??

Mar 18, 2010, 2:42 am

Thank you, Suge. It just got a little warmer in here.

382suge
Mar 18, 2010, 9:21 am

Oh, no! The Chiwetel didn't come out!

Well while I'm at it... Matthew Goode

Samuel Roukin, soo sooo underrated as a sex god

What is it about messy haired blokes that drives me crazy? Dylan Moran

Personally, I think its been too long since we've had James Franco's killer looks around here

Ohhh and where would we be without a Fitzwilliam Darcy montage?
