There is still a yellow banner in the old design announcing that LT will be going down at 12:15.

It now says that it went down and will be down for 5-10 minutes, but I've been on the site, and it isn't down now, nor has it been in the last half hour.

You've discovered the old design is actually a time portal. Still unclear is whether the banner refers to past or future events!

More seriously, good catch. I'm using the new design and can't reference the message verbatim: am I correct in recalling it states the time along with a generic reference to "today"? If so, perhaps it should include a datestamp to avoid confusion, if it's not feasible to have it deactivated automatically when the servers are back online.

It only gives a time, no date, but also no 'today'.

The banner is still there, now saying that LT will go down in 9 hours+, but I don't believe it.

Is LT going down again today?

>6 MarthaJeanne: I'm not seeing any such notification (using the new style), so I guess not.

>6 MarthaJeanne: No, LT is not going down. The banner is an error/bug. Tim's said he'll take it down when he can.

I guess Tim wants those who still use the old design to quit LT.

Tim is currently out for the holidays (as with other LT staffers this week), and will take a look when he can. Thanks for your patience in the meantime.

Tim has said for years that he's not going to prioritize fixing old-design only bugs. I think he can be excused for not fixing one in the last half of December.

I knew when the new design came that there would be a point where I would have to leave LT. I guess the time has come. A month of a fake news banner on every page is already more than I can cope with.

I'll be removing my data from the site over the next few weeks.

>12 MarthaJeanne: I, for one, am so sorry to hear this. I have especially appreciated your kindness in sharing knowledge about how the site works. I won't insult you by trying to talk you out of your decision but I will miss your presence here.

>12 MarthaJeanne: I am so very disappointed and sorry to hear this. I cannot imagine what is so difficult about removing a banner. I'm sure it didn't take that long to put it up. I will really miss you. :-{

I echo the above by @Taphophile13 and @Lyndatrue ... in addition to your generous insights into LT, I'll also miss your reviews of books I don't see often, especially those auf Deutsch.

>12 MarthaJeanne:

You and your data will both be missed.

I will not ask you to reconsider but I will say I'm sad that your decision was so extreme as to delete your account rather than just choosing not to participate any more. It is, however, your decision to make.

>12 MarthaJeanne:

I’m so sorry you find this necessary, @MarthaJeanne. You’ve been such a great asset to the site; you will truly be missed.

I'm still getting the "LibraryThing went down at 12:15 PM, and will be down for 5-10 minutes" yellow banner too. How many other people see it?

>16 lorax: I don't see what is extreme about not wanting data on the web attached to my name if I am not using it. Also that data will get more and more inaccurate as time goes on if I am not updating it.

I have changed that message and pushed it. I am certainly sorry that MJ feels this means she has to leave; her voice will be missed.

Fair enough. Since I use a pseudonym the "associated with my name" aspect hadn't occurred to me. (It's a consistent pseudonym across many sites, but not googleably linked to me as far as I can tell, and I do investigate occasionally.)

I'd certainly like to echo Tim's sentiments in >21 timspalding:. I'm sorry to see you go, MarthaJeanne.

I found that, for me, changing the interface to new design and then back to old design was enough to wipe off the yellow banner. I logged off and logged back on and that banner is now gone so the "fix" persists. This was done, as suggested by MarthaJeanne, by going to :

More > Widgets and Extensions > Use the new design

Then, if you really wanted, you could choose:

More > Widgets and Extensions > Use the old design

MJ has always said since the new design came, and Tim said he'd phase out upkeep of the old, that she would leave once it was no longer possible to keep using it. But yes, very not happy that day has come! :(
