Washington Post: Sanders briefed by U.S. officials that Russia is trying to help his presidential campaign
U.S. officials have told Sen. Bernie Sanders that Russia is attempting to help his presidential campaign as part of an effort to interfere with the Democratic contest, according to people familiar with the matter.
President Trump and lawmakers on Capitol Hill also have been informed about the Russian assistance to the Vermont senator, those people said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive intelligence.

Those Rooskies! They're Bi-Partisan! :^)
What I want to know is, Which team did they help in SuperBowl 54? Which films were they secretly backing at the Academy Awards? Parasite? Obviously?
Should one guess who those Rooskies back, who they want to help win or just wait and see if one's own favored win and then complain only when they don't?---as Bill & Hillary or Barack and (WTF!? I can't recall Mrs. Obama-what's-her-name-'s name! O! Woe! Woe! is --wait! there it is!: Michelle) Michelle prefer to do?
Hershey's or M&M/Mars?
Pepsi or Coke?
Dodgers or Yankees?
Thin-crust or Deep-dish?
Apple/Mac or Microsoft?
Boeing or Airbus?
If only Kruschev had known not to worry about it!

Kruschev dies and goes to Heaven. When he gets over the shock of being admitted into the company of the heavenly host, he asks,
"What happen? For God's sake!"
"Nikita Sergeyevich," he's told in reply, "have been good enough Russian. Not worst of terrible bunch. This Heaven. You admitted. Now, as favor, we show you future."
As he watches, spell-bound, the momentous events of the world post-September 11th, 1971, unfold before his view.
Soon, he reacts, in disbelief:
"What?! Only twenty years and few months and glorious Soviet revolution is finished?!
He buries his face in his hands in shame and dismay.
"Please, Nikita Sergeyevich, please, comrade. Calm yourself. Is much more still to see."
Eight more years pass. Nikita sees Putin become acting-President at the end of 1999 and, then, only five months later, in early May, become the president, succeeding Yeltsin.
Nikita rejoices.
"Is great day for Motherland!"
But the Angel corrects him. 'President', 'Premier', no matter, this man Putin to remain Rusian dictator for many years to come. In end, he sent to Hell.
Eleven more years scroll past. It is thirty years since Nikita's death, September 11, 2001.
The hijacked airliners fly into the World Trade Center's main towers.
Again, Nikita rejoices. "Is great day for Motherland!"
Fifteen years go by. Donald Trump is elected president of the United States.
"Is terrible day for Motherland!"
But the Angel corrects him.
Nikita rejoices: "Is great day for Motherland!"
But the Angel corrects him.
"Is not great day for Motherland? And not terrible day for Motherland?"
Nikita continues to watch and, as he watches, America's body-politic goes berserk.

The really surprising thing is that the WaPo reported this (whether it's true or not). My realpolitik guess is that the WaPo is terrified that Sanders would get his ass whipped in a general election by Trump, so they're trying to scuttle Sanders's candidacy before he can get the Dem party nomination.

My guess is that the WaPo would rather see Trump win again than see Sanders win. There are many like that.

Bernie Sanders denounces Russia's reported efforts to aid his campaign (Guardian)
Frontrunner condemns interference and says: ‘Unlike Trump, I do not consider Vladimir Putin a good friend. He is an autocratic thug’...
Sanders warns Russia to stay out of US presidential campaign (Al Jazeera)
Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has warned Russia to stay out of the 2020 presidential elections after US officials had told him Moscow was trying to aid his campaign.
"The intelligence community is telling us they are interfering in this campaign, right now, in 2020. And what I say to Mr Putin, if elected president, trust me you are not going to be interfering in American elections"...

Sorry, Sanders, but the data are in: Putin is helping you win; therefore he's your good friend.
Watching the Left shoot themselves in the foot is orgasmic. After three years of their "RUSSIA!!!" trolling, they can't claim that this Sanders story is implausible. Truly beautiful.
Mr Putin, if elected president, trust me you are not going to be interfering in American elections"...
A dangled participle or a Freudian slip? Putin cannot be elected U.S. President except by astounding interference in the American political system of various kinds. PLAINLY SANDERS IS A RUSSIAN AGENT WHO INTENDS TO HELP PUTIN ASSUME THE US PRESIDENCY!

But seriously, if Sanders wins the Dem nomination, this Russia story is going to be a feast. I can't wait to watch the lefties say, "But that's different!"

If Putin thinks Sanders would be the weakest opponent for trump then it would make sense for them to try interfere to increase the odds Sanders will get the nomination.
Once Sanders is the nominee then the ruskies will work full time to help elect trump.
That is all.
No human in his or her right mind would entertain the thought that Putin would prefer Sanders to trump.
trump is Putin's punk. I don't think Putin likes Sanders anymore than Sanders likes Putin.
It is really simple - no one needs to be rocket scientist to understand the above.
There is no equivalence - moral, political, or otherwise - between the two situations.
republican scum are trying to make the equivalency but no persons but the profoundly stupid would buy their stupid propaganda.
The news media from MSNBC to FUX News all know the above is the case yet they act like they don't . The media dicks all prefer assholws like Biden or Bloomberg. Too bad. Fuck all of those media motherfuckers, especially Chris Matthews, Chuck Todd, Nicole Wallace and James Carville.
The Democratic nominee will beat trump, regardless of who he or she is. That is my prediction. Russian interference and trump lies and stupid media combined will not save trump. Fuck trump and all that live in him.
addendum - I see where Dirty Harry is off of trump now and is supporting Bloomberg. What happened - did his doctors prescribe him some smart pills? - lol.

Trump security adviser slammed for 'politicizing intelligence' on Russian meddling (Guardian)
Donald Trump’s national security adviser has said he has not “seen any intelligence that Russia is doing anything” to get the president re-elected, but also seemed to accept reports that Russia is backing Bernie Sanders in the Democratic primary. In response, one senior Democrat slammed the “politicisation of intelligence” by the Trump administration...

Trump says 'I want no help from any country' in election (CNN)
Well, that's a bit of an about turn given that not so long ago he was asking the president of Ukraine for, er, help in the election.

I provided you with a resource. Oh what a suspicious nature you have...
But to humour you, as I understand it there is little doubt that Trump asked the Ukrainian president to investigate a potential rival in the next US presidential election. His defence in his impeachment hearing argued that this was not a "high crime and misdemeanour" as there was no quid pro quo, and even that he was justified in seeking his own re-election because he believed it to be in the best interests of the USA. But the point is not whether it was illegal, but simply that he sought help in an election from a foreign leader.

Apparent US Intel Meddling in US Election, With ‘Report’ Russia is Aiding Sanders

With Democratic frontrunner Bernie Sanders spooking the Democratic establishment, The Washington Post Friday reported damaging information from intelligence sources against Sanders by saying that Russia is trying to help his campaign.
If the story is true and if intelligence agencies are truly committed to protecting U.S. citizens, the Sanders campaign would have been quietly informed and shown evidence to back up the claims.
Instead the story wound up on the front page of the Post, “according to people familiar with the matter.” Zero evidence was produced to back up the intelligence agencies’ assertion.
“It is not clear what form that Russian assistance has taken,” the Post reported. That would tell any traditional news editor that there was no story until it is known.
Instead major U.S. media are again playing the role of laundering totally unverified “information” just because it comes from an intelligence source. Reporting such assertions without proof amounts to an abdication of journalistic responsibility. It shows total trust in U.S. intelligence despite decades of deception and skullduggery from these agencies.

so then here's the truly frightening part:
MANY many Americans are so obviously stupid, naive, gullible and politically unsophisticated that it appeared plausible enough to the very ugly bastards behind that ploy-badly-disguised-as-a-"news"-story for them to not only conceive it and plan it but to put it out onto actual paper-pages of a once-respected and once-respectable national daily.
That is where we are and nothing about any of that is liable to be charged back to the deeds or plans, past, present or future, of Donald Trump.
Trump seems able and ready to take full advantage of the moral and intellectual downfall of contemporary U.S. society--so much of it intimately part of the rotten political culture--to gain, hold and exercise political authority BUT Trump neither did much to create these circumstances himself nor has he, as far as we have seen from his three years in office, actually greatly worsened much of what is so bad about the political culture. On the contrary, Trump has actually even scored some goals that have benefited ordinary Americans in general and gotten zero credit for them from anyone outside his own inner circle--except, of course, the ordinary Americans themselves who've seen them--and none of Trump's opponents either could or wanted to score these same goals for the benefits of these Americans when they were in a position to try and do so.
MOST amazing of all, it is Trump's political opponents, the Democrats, foremost, who have done just that* in their effort to eliminate Trump as a factor.

#23--well we know Jeff Bezos who owns both Amazon and the Washington Post is backing the Sanders campaign. Oh wait......he's not. What's that?--Sanders fought with Amazon to get its employees a living wage to $15 an hour?!!? But even so I'm sure Bezos wouldn't put his thumb down on the scale and print anything without some kind of evidence. Oh!--AOC a Justice Democrat and key Sanders supporter helped very much to derail Amazon setting up shop in NYC!!?! WTF!!! And Bezos has never been linked to the CIA has he?--I mean all this talk about intelligence sources. You know maybe Bezos is above it all--I don't know but he certainly doesn't want Sanders to become our next President--I'm pretty certain of that. He and his billionaire ass and Amazon and the Washington Post would be in the crosshairs. No more tax cheating for all that.
