Today when I went to my home page, the recently added section shows only 7 books added. It used to show all the books recently added, with a "Next" and a "Previous" button to scroll along the column to see all the books added for weeks/months, etc. Now, it's showing just a few.
2conceptDawg
It shows the number of books that can fit on your screen (width) based on some crude calculations. The missing (prev|next) buttons is a bug that I'll take care of.
3vangogan
The width of my screen is way longer than 7 books. There are many blank spaces after the 7th book.
4conceptDawg
I've fixed the prev/next buttons. Terribly basic bug there. Sigh.
As for the display of less or more books, I'm afraid that one is a little more complex as it depends on the size of the covers you have selected in the settings for the module as well as the available space within your browser. I'm looking into it but duplicating your exact set of experiences is hard.

>2 conceptDawg: and >4 conceptDawg: despite what must have been your intention, the available space doesn't matter. The same thing is happening on a widescreen monitor as a smartphone.
6SandraArdnas
I can confirm. There's space enough, but the covers go to only half of it.

Interestingly, when using it on Chrome / PC, it recalculates on refresh the number shown depending on the zoom level selected.
However it always seems to limit the number to what will hit about the "Reorder" button above (as shown in >5 aspirit:), which is likely a hint to the issue.

The covers are visibly smaller than they were before; they're smaller than the Recent Member-Uploaded Covers (which I have directly above) when they used to be the same size.
Mine is set at Medium covers, show 15 books on 3 shelves. It shows 4 books per shelf rather than 5. I tried making it Large - I don't think the cover size changed (or at least, it's still smaller than the ones in RMUC) and it shows only 3 books per shelf/row. Setting it to Small shows 5 books per shelf - but it covers just over half the space in the module. Extra large gets the covers as big as the ones in RMUC - at two books per shelf.
It looked normal last night, about 24 hours before this message - I was working on RMUC and would have noticed the next module looking odd.

I've been noticing this today as well. It's no loss of significant functionality, but it looks a little dopey.
I think the cover images used to be centered in their rows and separated a little more widely; now they are all slammed to the left, leaving a big blank area on the right.

This is a mid-stream update to get ready for a full rework of the shelf with LT2. But we needed to push some updates to get ready for coming features. It's also tied into the new Series release coming next week (in final testing now). Lots of changes coming soon.
11conceptDawg
And you'll notice in message 4 that I agreed with all of you that the calculations for the number of books shown is off. Working on it. It was bad math based on previous layout constraints.

>4 conceptDawg: came across as if you're attempting to see what we're seeing. I'm relieved to know that's not the message today.

My recently added still does not have "next" and "previous"--ahh, scrap that. I see them, they are just BEFORE the titles/covers/shelf but before they used to be after them.
However, still only a few books showing at one time rather than the many that used to show at one time.

I am having the same problem.. Less books in recently added and although I see a Next button, nothing happens when I click on it. Not a fan of changes that break other things. Please help.

We're not fans of changes that break other things either. We don't do them on purpose.

I know that.
It is the IPad 3 again. It says Java when I click the next button. You fixed the loading problem last week. On my phone the next button works. But on both the phone and iPad only a few recently added books show. It was not like that before. Thanks.

Also not seeing Next buttons on the Add Books page, neither before nor after. I do show 10 entries, with plenty of white space at the bottom.

I'm seeing this; the number of covers being displayed varies between six and nine, depending on how big the image is. But there is still some white space left on the right-hand side of the screen. And there seems to be some latency in images getting pulled off the server.
At least my 'Next' button works.

Confirming: just 4 of them while there's plenty of room for more
The next button does work for me though.

>17 Crypto-Willobie: You said "Add Books page" but did you mean the Recently Added shelf on your home page? Or the actual Add Books page?
21Crypto-Willobie
>20 conceptDawg:
I mean the Add Books page. I guess I was confused about which Added list we were talking about. My Homepage Added shows 20 titles with 'more' buttons before and after. My Add Books PAGE shows 10 titles but no Next or More buttons at all -- didn't it used to have them?

You aren't seen a "next" link at the top right of the results?
What data source are you using?

Finishing up the New Series feature today for a release tomorrow and I'll circle back around to fixing some of the shelf stuff after that.

Again I suppose I am not being clear...
I don't mean that Next is missing from the Results offered for a specific search but rather from list of the Ten Most Recent Books Added shown on that page when it is at rest. I know at one point they reduced the number of Recent Adds shown on that page fron a higher number to just ten; but I thought it also used to give you the option to see the Next Ten and the Next Ten by clicking on. Or maybe I dreamed that or conflated it in my mind with the Homepage list..

>26 conceptDawg: Recently added books on the Home page had at least six books listed and a next button to advance to the previous six, and six, etc. After the first advance there was both next and previous buttons. Although the word next is on my screen it doesn't work. If I press it without lifting my finger a Java box comes up. Can you fix this? And can more titles be shown in the first instance like it was before? Thanks.

I'm afraid that it's not working properly yet for me.
If I carry out a few next commands (three or more) and then step back to the first page using prev I'm often left with a prev on the first page (if I press this prev I lose all my covers until I press next again or refresh the page).
Not so important but I'm only displaying 9 covers with a big white space on the right; it was normally 11 covers before - there's still space for 11.

Haven't fixed it yet. There was a major feature rollout this week that's had full control of my time.

Yep. Just been swamped here due to trying to roll out LT2 and the recent system issues. But I'll get to it and try to fix it. The bumps to the topic are ok with me.

Over the last few days I have entered 10 books without uploading cover images for them and the Recently Added books display looks much better, with all 10 displayed using my default book cover.

I thought the previous problems must have been corrected. but when I look at the next sets of covers which have all been scanned only 7 are displayed. Why is this?

and

Why is the spacing of covers in Recent Automatic Recommendations so much better?
Also note the spacing difference between the first and second, and penultimate and final, covers compared to the other covers displayed. It's a problem with both the Recently Added and Recent Automatic Recommendations.

They use two different pieces of code. The Recently Added section uses an ancient bit of code that does a worse job of guessing how many covers to show on your screen (based on average cover size and screen size).
Hopefully soon we'll replace both of these with a shiny new bit of code that will be better than both in all situations.
Closing this as it's not a bug, just a bit of less-than-100% efficient code.
