Cannot make relationships "there is no work with that reference number"

Just tried adding a relationship between Things That Have Interested Me: (The Complete Three Volumes) 197 Articles and Things That Have Interested Me (first series) with that latter contained in the former.

I went to series/relationships on the first work.

Clicked on relationships

Searched for things that have interested me bennett

Clicked on the title of the second work

Selected "contains" in the drop-down

Clicked "Create relationship"

Got the message "Problem
There is no work with that reference number." at the url https://www.librarything.com/problem/18

This happened earlier on another work but I assumed it was one of the everyday ++?????++ Out of Cheese Error. Redo From Start glitches, so didn't pay much attention, and can't now remember which one it was.

Did you try searching through the listing from the same author?

>2 gilroy: Not with someone who's written as many books as Arnold Bennett, no.

Edit: I just did, same error.

>3 DuncanHill: Huh, okay. What browser and operating system are you using, for the sake of developer research?

(I just tried this, got same problem -- Win 10, Firefox 95.0.2)

I just got what might be the same bug but slightly different symptom. Got there from: Relationships; Search; Select work; Verify nature of relationship; Click Create Relationship.

But instead of an error message I get sent to the following which looks like part of the work page but blank of any content:
https://www.librarything.com/work/201262/relationship_search_confirm.php
(work 201262 was the page I was starting from to add the relationship)

Same error whether adding via Search or via Author listings.

This is on Windows 10 with Chrome Version 96.0.4664.110

Hmmm. Seeing jquery errors when making actions within the Series/Relationships pop-up:

Uncaught TypeError: ((p.event.speciall.origType || {}).handle || l.handler).apply is not a function
at HTMLBodyElement.dispatch (jquery-1.8.0.min.js:2)
at HTMLBodyElement.h (jquery-1.8.0.min.js:2)

Passing to @conceptDawg (or maybe @timspalding can get to it sooner).

>10 kristilabrie: Trying to link two works by A. E. Affifi, Twenty-nine Pages is an abridgment of his other work Mystical Philosophy. When I use the work to work editor on Twenty-nine pages, and use same author or search for the work everything seems to operate fine--and then after saving, nada.

Then tried going to Mystical Philosophy and saying Twenty-Nine pages was an abridgment and get the message: "Problem
There is no work with that reference number."

The link took me to the work, with no information about the problem.

In the past few days I have tried to create relationships between several different works, and the feature doesn't work at all for me. If I try to save, everything is gone. Series works fine, but not work relationships.
Sometimes I get the error mentioned above "There is no work with that reference number", sometimes it looks as if it's working, but when I look at the work page, the relationship has not been saved.

I use Safari 14.0.1.

I am experiencing the same problem when creating relationships on multiple different works. It plays out two ways:
1) If I try from the subordinate work, the Relationship window closes and I am returned to the main page. No changes are visible on the main page, and when I reload the page this message pops up: "Confirm Form Resubmission - The page that you're looking for used information that you entered. Returning to that page might cause any action you took to be repeated. Do you want to continue? Cancel/Continue" Relationship does not show on reloaded page.
2) If I try from the primary work, I am redirected to error page: "Problem - There is no work with that reference number."

Ditto above problem when trying to create work relationships, issue is ongoing

Problem when selecting search results to apply relationship to:
There is no work with that reference number

Assume bug is caught in the 'Twixmas Twilight Zone' so will try again next week sometime...

Example below

https://www.librarything.com/work/book/210446574

Contains the following three works (from two different series):

https://www.librarything.com/work/15594447
https://www.librarything.com/work/17419162
https://www.librarything.com/work/24313714

All three items coming up as as There is no work with that reference number when selected from search results and submit applied

Shit happens!: Das große Tröstbuch contains three earlier works once this is fixed.

The Medieval Tailor's Assistant, 2nd Edition expanded

To reproduce:

1. Go to Series and work relationships on https://www.librarything.com/work/13259187.
2. Click "Add/edit", then click the "Relationships" tab.
3. Search for "things that have interested me bennett"
4. Click on "Things That Have Interested Me (first series) by Arnold Bennett"
5. Keep "Contains" in the drop-down
6. Click "Create Relationship"

Bug: Get directed to https://www.librarything.com/problem/18, with the error, "Problem
There is no work with that reference number."

I'm also seeing jquery errors in the dev console:

Uncaught TypeError: ((p.event.speciall.origType || {}).handle || l.handler).apply is not a function
at HTMLBodyElement.dispatch (jquery-1.8.0.min.js:2)
at HTMLBodyElement.h (jquery-1.8.0.min.js:2)

Okay! @conceptDawg has fixed this bug. Thanks for your patience, all. Please let me know if you still have any issues, here. I created the relationship the OP needed to test the fix. You can add others as needed!

Excellent, many thanks! It's working for me (though I needed to reload the work page that I still had open from before, in order for it to work).

Reloading the page from before the fix was put into place is to be expected, glad you got it through!
