...And I'd just like to point out that the proof is right there: See that little "first message" link??? My addiction to LT is all your fault, Kerian!!! (...and by the way, did I ever say thanks??)

(Edited to add - I just realized that my words/message is pretty much twice as high as you guys....I'm starting to think I talk too much....)

Great job on finding the right place to post your message! I asked in book talk and was afraid soemone got irritated at me for not going to that group first. :)

10elbakerone
Apr 4, 2008, 3:41 pm

Well, my numbers are a little skewed because I tend to do a lot of book discussion stuff on the Early Reviewers Thread and also I've written some massively long messages for the Books Compared group (the last thread I started there had a 500+ word message).

I just realized too that the reason February '08 was my highest posting month because I got two early reviewer books in January and was talking about them a lot in multiple threads and groups.

11elbakerone

#7 - Name That Book is such a fun group! I don't usually post there but I love reading the questions people have and seeing others identify their long lost/forgotten books!!

No wonder! That would do it. :)

I found Fly by Night thanks to the Name That Book group! I only really had it's cover to go by, and funny enough, when i got the book, it was from Australia and has a different cover. ;)

My first message was in the "Read YA Lit" group, but the vast majority of my posts are here on HE (4,510 messages). I can tell when I joined HE, because my talk participation increased exponentially! 5 posts in June of 2007 . . . 1,002 in August of 2007! That August is still my most "wordy" month; I'm sure it's because we were all rehashing Deathly Hallows. And starting our adventures!

21kgriffith
Apr 5, 2008, 3:35 am

It's fun to look at the stats and align them with occasions/reasons. For example, the last book swap was in November, and that's how I ended up adding so many books that month.
I don't have an excuse for March, except that I've been spending more time on HE which means more TBRs and more "oh yeah, I remember that book - must try to find a copy!" scenarios :)

22Kerian

In large part to my extreme verbosity in the Discussion threads as well as the waterworks and it's sister thread (I forget its name, but the one that's about the happy stuff) I am now averaging 41.11 words per message. I feel like I should try to make this message at least that long to maintain it! Okay, this one is over 50, so I can stop now, I just uped the count even more! Yikes!

58elbakerone
Apr 18, 2008, 1:19 pm

#57 - hey bib, *high fives for verbose messages* I'll join you in the long message club! Except now I feel like I should try to maintain my average too. Or else I should do a series of one word posts to bring my average back down to normal temper. Hmmmm....

59biblioholic29
Apr 18, 2008, 2:08 pm

It's a tough call I know. Is it bad that I secretly want to get my average up over 50? I'm to blissed out on Spring to figure it out, but which will up my count more, doing one big giant post for the next discussion thread with all my notes or going chapter by chapter the way I have been? I think one big post right? Would you all kill me?

Mandy's first message is similarish, I typed it for her while she read over my shoulder.

My messages for this month are way down! I've only done 686 this month, compared to my 1085 last month. I feel like such a slacker!

#66 bib:
I've slacked as well. 713 this month compared to last month's 1268. I can always look at the messages by month table and see what months I worked a lot and the one which my last computer had died during.

Very interesting, MrA. 69.11 is very impressive! Interesting, though, that your words for the month only went up by 8%.

Jun 1, 2008, 5:37 pm

Congratulations, MrA!

Both my words and my messages were down slightly for the month -- it's been a busy month, though, for me.

Must . . . post . . . more!

Good job MrA!

Is June "beat your highest messages by month count?" Because you're off to a really strong start with 56 messages for June on June 1st (your 2nd).

this is my 29th post this month, and prior to this post I had 1250 words so far for June.

I just finally saw where the monthly statistics here are mine:

May 264 posts
May wordcount 18,663

For comparison here is April:
April was 329 posts
April wordcount 12,264

85biblioholic29

That would make me a fraction of a word ahead of MrA. I don't think that's possible.

89Marensr
Jun 2, 2008, 10:39 pm

Ah MrA we are a hair's breadth away from each other in post count. Not even a full word.

I have fun European board game called Carcasonne in which the instructions in the case of a tie call for the winners to "rejoice in their shared victory"

I say we should rejoice in our shared long post victory.

90MrAndrew
Jun 2, 2008, 10:56 pm

Indeed! Let's rejoice!

heh heh. You are already undisputed master of the short multipost competition. That is unless anyone else wants to challenge you . . .

92Marensr

Oh yes and cat deserves shared victory for offering interesting discussion about Dracula. It is easier to post long posts when you have something interesting to post about.

93MrAndrew

92- Why thank you, Mar. I'm touched.

My words per post didn't go up very far in May. I think I started with 17 point something, and now it's 20.8. Not bad, but it certainly doesn't compare with most members. ;)

I was just looking at my statistics in the "legacy libraries", it's been a long time since I've looked at them, and the books I share with Hemingway kind of fascinate me:

The Nazarene by Sholem Asch
Pride and prejudice by Jane Austen
Pinocchio: The adventures of a Marionette by Carlo Collodi
The wind in the willows by Kenneth Grahame
Notre-Dame de Paris by Victor Hugo
The joy of cooking by Irma Rombauer
The elements of style by William Strunk

It's an interesting combination, no?

You know what this means, don't you? Now i can only leave 424 messages each month for the rest of the year, so i get a really freaky stats chart.

make that 282. Oh oh. This could be a problem.

Only 25 more posts to your goal and ten days of February to go. I knew this would happen. Perhaps if you lump all of your quips in one message per day? Just reference the threads and message number your referring to. Then the last day of February you can 16 messages.

MrA! I have some great news! If you go to the "Don't post here for 10 days thread and delete some of you empty posts, it actually reduces your post count! You could have 10-20 more post after a nearly painless process! Now I need to edit my stats again...

.Now I have to carefully select my posts for the next 8 days. I can only make 7 comments.
Of course, i could just keep going back and deleting my old posts...hmmm, that gives me another idea. I could go back to previous months and delete posts there until all the numbers are the same. I do like nice, neat, clean statistics.

I'm thinking about targeting 424 messages for February. That number has a strange...resonance.

177Espeon200
Feb 23, 2009, 7:10 pm

Mysterion: Hmm... that's interesting. You know, I think you would get along well with another member of the group. Unfortunately he's not been to post much since you started posting because he's trying to maintain a strict post limit, but he seems like your kind of person. His name is MrAndrew and I'm sure that if you stick around after the end of the month you'll meet him sooner or later.

You know, if i get to 424 messages before the end of February, i'm thinking that i might have to start up a second account - so i can keep posting without ruining my post count number. Something like "MysterionOverflow". Does that sound like a good idea?

This is what you get for trying to escape from Mysterion's pit. :oP

Start with the one word posts. Like in word association. No one rereads those anyway. :o)

183kirbyowns
Feb 27, 2009, 11:49 am

I did on my quest to read all the threads. But that is more of a first read many months later.

184MrAndrew
Feb 28, 2009, 5:07 am

OK, here's some tips, for anyone else that wants to play this game:

1) You can't delete other people's posts in an attempt to reduce your own post count (hey, it was worth a try).

2) If you decide to go back and delete your posts in order to reduce your post count for the month, be sure to check the actual date of the posts before deleting. You could accidentally delete posts from previous months.

sigh.

Messages by month
Jan. '09 421

3) Once you have deleted a post, you can't restore it, or edit it again in an attempt to get your post count back up.

sigh.
Messages by month
Jan. '09 421

4) The only thing you can do in that case, is go back and delete posts in previous months. To restore balance to the force.

sigh.

186jugglingpaynes
Feb 28, 2009, 10:35 am

#184-LOL!
Sorry.
No, I'm not. LOL!!!

Dude, I can't believe you did that!

I'm pleased to say I can post five more times before the end of the day to reach an even 800. It would be the first time I ended the month on a round number. I have never had two months with the same post count.

All I have to do now is sit back and try not to respond to every funny thing I read in the threads. Which will be difficult, since I'm still catching up from overnight. I had a nice sleep, thank you. It definitely helped to insist that my husband take cat to her job today. 9:30am. That's just too close to a real job. I thought I was raising artistic free-thinking rebels? And circus people?

Can you tell she isn't home to edit me?

Ah, MrA. You have the gift of gab. Tis a blessing and a curse.

i have the gift of type. A blessing for me, for others...

421 421 448 644 446 844... no, that 448 looks completely out of whack. IT'S ALL GOT TO BALANCE!

421 421 448 644 448 421 421... that would work.

Stop rolling your eyes, MsD. I still haven't forgiven you for those muffins you made - they did not have THE EXACT SAME AMOUNT OF BLUEBERRIES in each muffin. They have the be THE EXACT SAME AMOUNT in each one. Everyone knows that.

And while i'm here:
Bumping old or inactive ("dead") threads is occasionally called "necroposting" or "thread necromancy", and the bumped posts referred to as "frankenposts". "Dead" threads that are reawakened are often called "thread necros". People who resurrect old threads are often called "threadomancers"
