This month we will be looking at MOTHER NATURE's abilities in creating lakes, rivers, oceans and seas

What makes our world special in the universe is WATER. It can be found in many unique forms - lakes, rivers, oceans, seas
Most are naturally occurring geographical features, but some are artificial. There are types that can be either. For example, most reservoirs are created by engineering dams, but some natural lakes are used as reservoirs. Similarly, most harbors are naturally occurring bays, but some harbors have been created through construction.
Bodies of water that are navigable are known as waterways. Some bodies of water collect and move water, such as rivers and streams, and others primarily hold water, such as lakes and oceans.
But without water, life would not exist on our planet.
Rivers
Lakes

oceans and seas

Many people find being near a body of water relaxing, how about you? Is there a particular body of water that you like to "visit"?

>2 cyderry: Lovely photos Cheli. Yes I find water soothing, especially beaches.
I was unable to update my ticker again, wondering if I need to create a new one. My numbers should read 22/48. I see we have passed the half way make already. Great effort everyone.

Oh, the ocean pictures make me want to pack my bags and head off for the beach. All my favourite holidays have been on the seaside. Watching the waves roll in is so soothing!
And thanks for the stats! I need to get my skates on because some of my planned reads are very long....

I always feel calmed when I'm near the sea in particular - it's the whole sensory experience, the smell and taste of the sea air as much as the sound of the waves and the sight of all that water. I think it's why I love the Scottish islands so much - you're never far from the sea.
I've finished my first ROOT for the month (#30 for the year, meaning I'm half-way to my goal). Just updated my own ticker.

My favorite water spot is The Pond at my home in Kansas. It is were I spent many a Sunday afternoon in the company of my uncles, aunts, cousins, and neighbors playing around in the water and eating good food. As bodies of water go it is quite small. As places of significance it is very large.
My second most favorite water spot is the Missouri River. I love this river all the way from its gushing headwaters at Three Forks, Montana through the bluffs at Great Falls, MT down through the huge dams that think they have tamed this mighty beast, on to its placid spread in through the plains. There is no way that it should be called the Mississippi river basin as the largest portion of it is the Missouri River drainage, but ...

Really lovely pictures! I find being next to a running river to be extremely relaxing and helps me be present.
Finished ROOT #16! The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow. I liked it a lot, just not as much as I'd hoped! That always makes me a little sad, when the book hype doesn't quite live up to my expectations.

I just got back from a 5-day trip to Lombok. Some photos:

>14 connie53: It's just a platform in the pool for people to stand on and have their photos taken. The water between the platform and the edge of the pool to the left is very shallow so it is easy to walk across. While we were there, there was a young couple having what I think must have been their pre-wedding photos taken standing there. She was wearing a long gown, and of course the hem got wet.

I finished my first ROOT for June. It was Thunderstruck by Erik Larson. It was Larson's usual fare and I was underwhelmed. I have never been much impressed by Larson's books, but they keep being on my real life Book Discussion group's reading list, so I keep having to read them. I liked the parts of this book that were about Marconi's invention of radio, but didn't like the murder parts. Oh well.

Finished a ROOT! I read Nine Pints: A Journey Through the Money, Medicine, and Mysteries of Blood by Rose George. This one was for the LT Nonfiction Challenge for June. The topic was Science and Medicine and this book fit in perfectly. It was a series of essays and each essay had to do with a different topic but all of the topics were about blood. Very interesting, informative, and an easy book to read. I really liked this one.

I'm back! I dropped off the map for almost 3 months due to intense morning sickness that was hugely exacerbated by reading, but I'm feeling better and starting to make up for those missed months.
So far for June, I'm sitting at 13 ROOTs demolished and I think I'll be able to pull out another one or two. Only my personal ticker has been updated; I'm too intimated by the thought of messing up the group ticker to mess with it!
