I read this back in the 80s. It started out as a series of articles in either Esquire or GQ magazine. I lean towards it being Esquire, but I'm not certain. It was a monthly series for a year or so, then the articles were gathered together, edited down (grrr!), and published as a book. I think all the articles were written by the same author. It apparently isn't "Esquire: The Rules: A Man's Guide to Life". The one specific bit I remember says something like 'Wash your hands before touching your penis, but not after.' That's all I can remember.

Eliminated Esquire Etiquette: The Modern Man's Guide to Good Form by Glenn Waggoner.

These are a little more on the style side than etiquette, but how about Man at His Best: The Esquire Guide to Style, Esquire Good Grooming for Men, or Manstyle: GQ Guide to Fashion, Fitness and Grooming?

>7 saskia17: I'll take a look at them.

Well, it wasn't Real Men Don't Eat Quiche. The search goes on.

Could it be Modern Manners by P.J O'Rourke? That's sort of like it.

>16 spaceowl: I don't think so, but I'll check it out to be sure.

Remember nothing except title, author, and amusement so no idea where first published but there was one called The Lonely Guy's Book of Life by Bruce J. Friedman.

Dave Barry maybe? I'm looking at Live Right and Find Happiness, but he did a lot of bestselling comedy opinion books in the States in the 80s. Really not sure though.

>22 nessreader: No, not Dave Barry. Whoever it was wasn't that well known. Thanks for trying.
