In contrast to last year, I did not have a banner year in nonfiction reading. Only two standouts in 2024.

Ian W. Toll's The Conquering Tide: War in the Pacific Islands, 1942-1944 and Sam Willis' Struggle for Sea Power: A Naval History of the American Revolution are tied as the best of 2024 for me. I also enjoyed fresh perspectives from reading American Midnight: The Great War, a Violent Peace, and Democracy’s Forgotten Crisis, Conquerors: How Portugal Forged the First Global Empire, and Steel Boat Iron Hearts: A U-boat Crewman's Life Aboard U-505.
Also can't forget to mention Hart's Scipio Africanus: Greater Than Napoleon and The Mysterious Case of Rudolf Diesel: Genius, Power, and Deception on the Eve of World War I as super interesting works.

I really enjoyed and found fascinating, intriguing, and/or informative:
The Anatomical Venus: Wax, God, Death & the Ecstatic
The Little Book of Cat Magic: Spells, Charms & Tales
The Book of Japanese Folklore
Kimono: Kyoto to Catwalk
I'm not sure enjoyed is the right word, but I found Drive: Scraping By in Uber's America, One Ride at a Time edifying and interesting as well.
