Sometimes a book is so gripping we simply can't stop reading, putting off other tasks or staying up late at night to finish it. This month's List of the Month is devoted to the Books We Couldn't Put Down.
Each participant may vote on ten titles. Given the subjective nature of the topic, downvoting is not allowed.
For a complete list of topics covered so far in our project, please see the new section for Lists of the Month on the Zeitgeist page
We would welcome suggestions for future lists. Please add them here, and we will keep them in mind, going forward.

Great topic! And a tough one... there are so many books I know I love, but I don't actually remember my reading experience.

I feel like i have to apologize for one of my additions (which I put in the comment). I'm currently paused reading it, but only because i had to stop and go "omg, can you believe this???" about the plot, and then decided to wait a bit before resuming, to draw out the pleasure of reading something so unexpected, and which keeps surprising me.
I had no real idea before starting my recent reading theme that books for girls in the 19th century weren't all schmaltzy preachy things. And this one is right up there with some of the pulps for wild plot, except it's also educational?!?!
(edit: i forgot to share with everyone the title: Witch Winnie in Spain, by Elizabeth Champney, published 1898)

I found it surprisingly easy to come up with my ten titles, but I'm afraid they document my idiosyncrasies as a reader rather than providing reliable tips for anyone else.

Missing the very many; many books I stayed up all night as a kid and teen reading, which have largely merged together in my mind. The ones I do remember are more recent or have stories to them - including one I will not be including.

I hope people will reflect on the actual theme of the list and not just put down ten books they loved. If someone lists À la recherche du temps perdu I will be either very suspicious or very impressed...

I'm quite shocked at some of the titles listed, which just goes to prove how different tastes are when it comes to reading. There are multiple titles listed that I couldn't wait to put down because I thought they were so awful (one I actually threw into a wall).

>8 PawsforThought: Haha! Indeed! So many awfully boring books on this list. 😄 Which is interesting, but it also makes the list quite useless for recommendations.

Hard to pick something for this list. Many of my favorite books appear on it, but none that I would describe as "couldn't put down". I can only recall one book in the last several years that I stayed up all night to finish in one continuous reading session, but it's quite an obscure one that I'm not sure I'd recommend except to someone else with my particular fan interests.

I'm like SF_Fan in that I can't remember any books being "couldn't put down". There's been books I read straight thru, but that's mainly because I had the time to just sit and read. A few others I would've kept reading, but since I was in college at the time reading for class was a priority.

I certainly enjoyed it, my degree is in math. I guess you really couldn't put it down because they don't have that direction.
