(cross posting from the green dragon)

I've had this discussion on annother forum, but I dont think its been brought up here so....

I'd love to hang out with Robin Hobb's Fool, he's possibly my favourite character ever :)

I'd love to have a pet like Mischief from Trudi Canavan's Age of Five trilogy, he reminds me of the pet ferret I used to have Baji :)

Antryg Windrose from Barbara Hambly's The Silent Tower, The Silicon Mage & Dog Wizard. Okay, he's only borderline sane, but there's nothing in the universe he's not interested in...

Oh! Oh! Puddleshark! Me too! I LOVE those books. Love love love. I'd also like to meet Harry Dresden from Jim Butcher's Dresden Files (Storm Front through Small Favor). Harry is a geek's geek--likes Star Wars and plays D&D :)

Gandalf! :-)

Master Li and Number Ten Ox from Bridge of Birds and sequels. I'd probably end up wanting to punch Master Li, but it would be interesting.

Millie Chant (Chrestomanci's wife) from Charmed Life, etc. She's a lot more formidable than people expect from looking at her, but she is kind and has a knack for making people feel at home and comfortable.

Rupert Giles from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Also Harry Dresden and Antryg Windrose (although the latter would probably have the same effect on me as Master Li).

Definitely Polgara from the Belgariad and Mallorean. She's cool, calm, and has that delightfully dry wit!

Wizard Howl, of Howl's Moving Castle, and Eugenides, from Megan Whalen Turner's series of The Thief, The Queen of Attolia and The King of Attolia (and I do hope she writes a fourth). Guess I have a soft spot for scapegraces.

I posted over at the GD, but forgot my favorite fantasy character: Eowyn from Lord of the Rings.

Thursday Next from Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next series: The Eyre Affair, Lost In a Good Book, The Well of Lost Plots, etc...

6. tardis, I second Rupert Giles from Buffy. What about Doctor Who?

Claire and Jamie from Outlander.

@1: I love the Fool too!

Daemon Sadi from Anne Bishop's The Black Jewels Trilogy.
Stella Mayfair from Anne Rice's The Witching Hour.
Cal from Storm Constantine's Wreaththu novels.

10 (craso): Well, I thought this was about fantasy characters, not fantasies about characters ;). I figured the Doctor (and assorted companions) were technically classed as science fiction characters (ditto the Vorkosigans - I'd really like to talk gardening with Ekaterin) so I didn't include them.

14Katissima
Jun 19, 2008, 1:36 pm

With the Doctor, the question would be--which one do you want to meet. 4th and 10th are my favorites, of course. 7th and 8th would be cool as well. Then 5th. And someone should meet the 6th Doctor and ask him WTF is with that outfit?!!

Tom Baker.

Ten, Nine or Four for me. Although Nine occasionally freaks me out -- he bears and uncanny resemblance to one of my ex-boyfriends, right down to the signature leather jacket.

17tardis
Jun 19, 2008, 3:23 pm

Well, they're all The Doctor - I'd take any of them, although I have a teeny preference for Ten at the moment. But we should port this discussion over to the Doctor Who group, because it's off topic here :)

Albus Dumbledore from Harry Potter
Someone from Xanth, but I'm not sure who... maybe Chlorine or NIMBY.
Ents and/or elves from Lord of the Rings.

Anne of Green Gables. We had an affinity when I was young. Of course, while I'm hanging out with her I might have to steal her boyfriend...

#5 - Gandalf is here!!!
Seriously though - there are so many. I wouldn't know what to say to them but I'd love to meet

Sam Gamgee
Cazaril from The Curse of Chalion - he's just brilliant.
Antryg also.
Lord Mhoram Lord Foul's Bane
Sirius Black - just to see if he's as sexy as he appears!

23stillethel
Jun 30, 2008, 2:05 pm

So many!

Anyone over 5' tall from the Lord of the Rings series (except the bad guys).
The Wild Baron from the Wild Baron (Catherine Coulter)
Albus Dumbledore from Harry Potter
And last but certainly not least: Lestat and Marius from the Anne Rice series!

Wouldn't it be great if we could literally become a character in our favorite books - just for a time.... something like the holodeck on the Startrek series (The Next Generation I think)????

I always had a bit of a crush on Silk from David Eddings's Belgariad series, so I'll have to say him!

Or maybe Allanon from The Sword of Shannara...dark, brooding, powerful...what's not to like??

But I'd love to be best friends with Aerin from The Hero and the Crown. ;-)

agree on Thursday Next and Mhoram, also Matt Soren from Fionavar and Silk from The Book of the Long Sun. Maybe Dobbs from Fool's War.

How about some couples?

Ammar and Jehane
Morgon and Raederle
Ged and Tenar
Faramir and Eowyn

If you are going to meet vampires Chelsea Quinn Yarbro's Saint Germain is much more pleasant than most.
I would kind of like to talk to Tyrion from GRRM's Song of Ice and Fire. I really, really want to meet the Vorkosigans (Lois McMaster Bujold is a sci-fi must-read). I may just have a thing for short, twisty men...

27peace4me

Edward from Twilight if that counts for fantasy.
Gemma Doyle from A Great and Terrible Beauty
I know those are slightly juvenile, but I haven't really read much mature fantasy.

Gandalf: Wisdom, magic, ability to talk about fascinating things.

I want Polgara the Sorceress to be my personal mentor in magic.. and cooking.. ;)

I want to befriend the Fool from Robin Hobb's awesome fantasy series..

I want to date Kvothe from Patrick Rothfuss's new series!!

I want to meet Jamie Fraser from Outlander by Diana Gabaldon.

Or a reasonable fascimile..;)

Jul 16, 2008, 11:09 am

#23 - Yes, I want the holodeck experience, definitely!! I've often thought about that and how awesome it would be!

I think Jamie Frasier, I live in fear of his death in that series, and I too, would settle for a reasonable fascimile - does anybody else see Gerard Butler (with red hair) as Jamie?

I think I would most like to meet Perrin, from Robert Jordan's WoT.

Jul 16, 2008, 3:28 pm

#32... YES, I do! And skip the red hair, just plain mr. butler as he is - I can suspend my disbelief.

As much as I hated that series, I'd love to meet Jamie Frasier.

And Nynaeve or Avienda from WoT.

And not the Fool, but rather Burrich.

Oh, and how about God from Timothy Findley's Not Wanted on the Voyage... bet he's got some amazing stories.

I'd love coffee (or rather, heavily laced tea) with Nanny Ogg.

There are oh-so-many others!

Crowley and Aziraphale from Good Omens

#33 Seconded, I'd love to meet Nanny Ogg! But, I'd also like to meet Crowley from Good Omens (does that make me a bit odd?)

Jul 19, 2008, 6:49 am

#26 Not sure about meeting Miles Vorkosigan (much as I love the books) as a small war would be sure to break out in his vicinity. I'd like to have tea with his mum though.

#8 Eugenides - don't wear your best earrings, they'd only end up on a altar!

when i was thinking about this, i realised that many of my favorite charecters i would probably be irritated by, if i met them. like wise men/wizards (who only answer in riddles), kendars (who steel, sorry "loan" your things), dragons (who would eat you), elves (who probably would look dawn their noses on you).

but polgara and silk from david eddings is on top of my list
and then i would like to have a chat with the vampire who takes all kind of impractical jobs, from diskworld

I like the idea of Harry Dresden. He seems like a cool fun guy. I would also like to meet Richard Rahl from Terry Goodkinds Sword of Truth series. Perhaps better yet would be his grandfather Zed. He seems like a cool kind of crazy old man.
