A Thread of Truth by Marie Bostwick arrived this morning! Not technically an ARC, a nice autographed trade paperback!! Doin' the Snoopy dance this beautiful morning in May!!

May 1, 2009, 12:41 pm

Carlos Ruiz Zafón's The Angel's Game, and wasn't I thrilled! It's actually been one heck of a week for ARCs. Earlier, I received review copies (though also not technically ARCs) of It Happened in Italy: Untold Stories of how the People of Italy Defied the Horrors of the Holocaust, by Elizabeth Bettina and Which Puppy?, by Kate Feiffer.

FYI-- if you've got a WWII buff in the house. I received 2 copies of WWII Behind Closed Doors: Stalin, The Nazis and the West yesterday. The books tie-in to the PBS special that will begin on May 6th and I'll be doing a give-away starting next week.

May 5, 2009, 10:05 am

Miss Mermaid, I did too! We can compare notes. I am reading my copy as soon as I review This Present Darkness today. I have to review it in LT, Book Blogs, and my blog so that will take some time. Anyhow, looking forward to it.

10DevourerOfBooks
May 5, 2009, 2:51 pm

>9 scarpettajunkie:, scarpetta, do you do different reviews for each place?

Two books today, only one is actually an ARC, but neither is available yet. For a blog tour, Mating Rituals of the North American WASP by Lauren Lipton and New Stories of the South from Algonquin.

12scarpettajunkie
May 5, 2009, 4:50 pm

Devourer of Books, I always have done different reviews for each site until today. I was very satisfied with my review for This Present Darkness so I left it the same for here, Book Blogs, and http://scarpettajunkiesblog.myblogsite.com. I figured not every one is going to hit all three sites and it saved me some time as I have a new ARC to review.

13NovelBookworm
May 5, 2009, 7:57 pm

Jen, (DOB) now I'm weirding out...I almost always put the same review up wherever I review. I'm too lazy to write three or four different reviews for the same book. I'm still a major noob about the whole blog thing..I suppose this is bad, huh? I can't see myself actually writing different reviews, maybe I should just limit where I post them? I usually do my blog and LT, but sometimes put it up on bookblogs, etc.

Is it bad to put the same review on different sites?

Arrgh...there is much I don't know......

14DevourerOfBooks
May 6, 2009, 8:05 am

>13 NovelBookworm:, Kelly,
Don't worry, most people don't bother to do the extra work that scarpettajunkie does. I don't always put the EXACT same review on all sites, but that's just because I sometimes just omit the summary paragraphs from my blog (where I think they're more necessary) when I post here (where they aren't as necessary, particularly if there are many other reviews). I've heard somewhere that Google may downgrade your site a bit of the text is repeated a whole bunch of places, but if a review is mostly the same here, your blog, and one or two other places I think you're probably fine.

15littlebookworm
May 6, 2009, 8:16 am

#13 I always post the same review everywhere. I sometimes omit sections more appropriate to my blog, but I'd never be able to write a different review of the same book for 3 different places. I don't think it's bad at all.

16jdthloue
May 7, 2009, 8:35 am

yesterday i, too, received Perfection: A Memoir of Betrayal and Renewal by Julie Metz....and i post the same review everywhere...i post. sometimes i elaborate on style/character...depending on the Site.

22MissMermaid118
May 8, 2009, 10:38 am

Yesterday I received an ARC of Jeff in Venice which was released mid-April. Is it unusual to receive an ARC after the book is published?

23MissMermaid118
May 8, 2009, 10:39 am

>20 ThePam: and >21 eaklemp: Recently read both of those books and, though entirely different, loved both! Hope you do, too!

24DevourerOfBooks
May 8, 2009, 10:42 am

>22 MissMermaid118:,
Slightly, you'll usually get a finished copy at that point, but if they still have ARCs left they will send them out to reviewers then so as not to waste them.

25MissMermaid118
May 8, 2009, 10:49 am

>22 MissMermaid118: Thanks, Jen! I guess it's better "late" than never.

May 11, 2009, 8:45 pm

I received The Well and the Mine thanks to the ER program and Beach Trip as part of a blog book tour.

I loved Cutting for Stone. The beginning hooks you, the middle seems boring but is very important and by the end you are left satisfied.

30scarpettajunkie
May 12, 2009, 7:16 am

Thanks for the heads up on Cutting For Stone. I've yet to get to my ARC but I'm looking forward to it. Now I know to pay attention just when I think it gets boring. Good tip, as that is how key points get missed.

So far in May I've received:

An Edible History of Humanity by Tom Standage
Adopted For Life by Russell D. Moore (from LT's Early Reviewer program)
Magickeepers: The Eternal Hourglass by Erica Kirov
and
Neil Armstrong is My Uncle by Nan Marino.

I finished the Nan Marino book last week, a couple days after I got it, and Magickeepers didn't take me long to finish, either.

May 20, 2009, 7:05 am

I received Of Bees and Mist which is a B&N First Look book club read and Cemetery Dance which is an ARC. I have only started of Bees and Mist which turns out to be a fairy tale. I love how the staircase in the lead character's house grows and shrinks. I'd hate to have it grow if I was carrying a basket of laundry. Not so crazy about the cloud of mist hanging over the front door.

51Neverwithoutabook
May 20, 2009, 9:47 am

Yesterday I received Death Piled Hard: A Tale of the Confederate Secret Services by W. Patrick Lang. It sounds very interesting!

53GondorGirl
May 21, 2009, 4:48 pm

Crying Tree showed up today... Was it SA? I don't have it written down as requested... Any ideas where to send the reviews?? Looks really good though. It'll be next up after Of Bees and Mist.

54scarpettajunkie
May 21, 2009, 7:24 pm

Pirate Coley, I have The Crying Tree as well. I think some publicist somewhere played switch on us.

I also received The Lost Throne today. Also this week, I have received Cemetery Dance.

I am in the middle of Cutting For Stone and I also had to read the first nine chapters Of Bees and Mist. All else is really waiting for Cutting For Stone to be finished.

May 22, 2009, 1:45 pm

I received a copy of The Crying Tree yesterday as well and I am not completely sure where it came from (LOL) but it looks good. It may have been SA. The UPS man showed up at the door and I thought for sure that it was the Charles Grodin book from the March Early Reviewer batch. What a pleasant surprise! (No offense to Mr. Grodin intended.)

57wkelly42
May 22, 2009, 7:35 pm

Got a copy of The Lost Throne by Chris Kuzneski today, thanks to Shelf Awareness. I'd actually forgotten I'd requested it until it showed up today.

A couple of days ago I received A Grain of Sand and yesterday had a note that Purolator Courier had been by when I wasn't home. I picked the book up today, No Matter What!: 9 Steps to Living the Life You Love. It's been a good week!

61gaby317
May 23, 2009, 1:29 am

i'm glad to have stumbled on the discussion of posting the same review on different sites. I have just done a few but post them here, goodreads, amazon, my blog and sometimes b&n. i hadn't thought to revise it for each site - had just maximized exposure for each review!

i guess i'll tweak them a bit now, to make sure that i don't get lower ratings from google.

O.K., so I'm not going to BEA, but I'm certainly not without some swag! Today I received finished copies of The Actor and the Housewife, The Devlin Diary, and an ARC of Fragment. I'm pretty snowed under right now. Too bad there's no chance of a snow day in May to catch up!

74LisaLynne
May 29, 2009, 9:14 am

Lost Boy by Brent W Jeffs, which is actually an Early Reviewer book
The Wet Nurse's Tale by Erica Eisdorfer
Two to Six: A Sex Offender's Story

Plus, I picked up a couple of new ones. My TBR pile is getting unmanageable.
