Challenge yourself!

How many books are you going to read in 2010?

My personal goal is 110 book. Slightly higher than this years goal, which I should be able to meet.

Jump right in.

Hmm... Well, my goal for this year was 250, and as long as I keep up this next month, I should be able to meet it, possibly even pass it.

So, for my 2010 Goal, I'm going to start with 250 again and go from there.

Enjoy,

This year my goal was 100, not realizing how much free time a retiree has. Anyway, I far surpassed it & may even reach 200.

I think I will make 200 my goal next year.

Hmmm...I think I'll stick with 150.

Nov 30, 2009, 10:11 pm

hey...I did not count what I did this year but mine is definitely lower than 100, probably more in the 60's range. But Librarything is making me very excited about reading and I am going to go for 150, or to be more precise 3 books a week so 144 I think.

Dec 1, 2009, 1:39 pm

In 2008 I fell a little short of my 150 goal and in 2009 I'm going a little over my 125 goal, so for 2010 I think I'll aim for 135.

Dec 6, 2009, 10:28 pm

I made a goal of 125 for 2009, I don't think I am going to make it but I think I will try again next year. So once again I am aiming for 125 in 2010.

My goal for next year is 150 books and that is any type of Romance. My overall goal for next year is 275 and that is books read as well as audiobooks.

I couldn't even make it to the 50 that I wanted this year. But that's ok, it still won me a steak dinner. :)
(Me and BooGirl (my daughter) had a personal challenge going.)
Next year I'm going to try for that 50 again...and a seafood victory.

Dec 14, 2009, 12:52 pm

Ok, this is interesting.
For my first try I will go for 210 to make 2010 a really good reading year!

So how do I keep count?

12beatles1964
Edited: Dec 14, 2009, 1:05 pm

I also had trouble even getting anywhere near 50 for this so for now I think I'll try to get 50 and then go from there. Even though I'm in all different kinds of reading challenges for 2010 I'm going to try to at least read more books in 2010 than I did this year. I know I shouldn't have any trouble with the 25 Book Challenge. That one should be the easiest one for me to complete and then it'll become more difficult for me and I'll have to start pushing myself harder and harder to pick up my reading pace for the rest of 2010. Wish me Luck because I know that I'm certainly gonna need it if I'm going to read more than 50 books in the new year.

Well I met my goal for this year which was 250 books. As of now I have read 254 books and that is without writing down all the books I read over the summer and in addition to that I have listened to 46 books.

Since I read 125 this year (my lowest number yet since I started keeping records in 2002) I'm setting my goal higher and aiming for 150 in 2010. This is for all books of any type - print or audio - although most of my reading is romance.

I Think I'm going to attempt 50 which is possible I hope.
I've never really counted before so I'm not sure how many I read last year.
I will really be trying to make sure that some of those come out of my TBR pile which just keeps getting bigger.
Maybe I'll have a buying ban for a while that might help make me read some of those I was really desperate to read until I brought them home.

To start off my 2010 challenge I read 11 books in January and a whole lot of manga.

My favorite romances of January were the duo of Lost Duke of Wyndham and Mr. Cavendish, I Presume by Julia Quinn.

This was a slow month for me for reading. I completed 8 books bringing my total to 19 so far this year. My favorite book overall was the second Black London novel, Demon Bound by Caitlin Kittredge. More urban fantasy than romance, but it did have a smidge of romance as well. My favorite romance novel was Jackson Rule by Sharon Sala. I'm not usually very impressed by contemporary novels, but this one really stood out for me.

Back from Florida to a foot of snow in New York!! Anyway, I am listing both my January and February books. Not so many in January, partially because I was visiting lots of friends and relatives, and partially because one of them was An Echo in the Bone which probably counts for about 3 books. : D

2. Shadow Dance by Julie Garwood
3. Slow Burn by Julie Garwood
4. Out of This World an anthology

Since I'm going through some major life changes I'm not reading anywhere near as much as I used to. Still, I managed to knock out five books in the month of April bringing my year total so far to 33:

Skin Game by Max Allan Collins
Maximum Ride by James Patterson
Changes by Jim Butcher
My Soul to Save by Rachel Vincent
School's Out Forever by James Patterson

Although I'm not really reading romances at the moment due to the aforesaid life changes I hope no one minds if I continue to keep track of my monthly count here.

Only three for me this month (year total now 47). I thought I'd do better but I guess it's not meant to be:

Magic Bleeds by Ilona Andrews
Love in the Afternoon by Lisa Kleypas
Spirit Bound by Richelle Mead

I liked all of these about equally. Interestingly, these are all books in series and I took all of them out from the library. This certainly isn't helping me cut down my TBR pile.

Three again in September, except this time around two were from my TBR pile :-):

Lover Avenged by J.R. Ward
Bad Moon Rising by Sherrilyn Kenyon
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Since I've pretty much been reading books in series I've already started lately it was nice to add a new one to the mix with The Hunger Games.

Counting these three I've made it to 50 for the year so far.

Sept. books added under #32 above. I better get reading. I'm a long way from my goal. But, on second thought, I've read a lot more LONG books that would otherwise count as 2 or maybe three books in some cases. So, I guess I'm not doing too bad.

128) 10/13 - The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (4*)

Obviously favorite goes to Jeaniene Frost and Debbie Macomber, but I also enjoyed the emotional story by Nicholas Sparks more than my 4 stars leads to believe.

>83 onyx95: I saw the movie of The Notebook and it made me cry. I tried to read the book and just couldn't get into it. I'm not sure why.

I'm surprised that October was much better, I had no idea I read as much as I did. It may just be that some of the books were just so much shorter. In October I finished 7 books, so I'm now up to 57 for the year:

Lover Mine by J.R. Ward
Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins
Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins
Firefly: The Official Companion based on the TV show
Glimpses by Lynn Flewelling
Jennifer Scales and the Ancient Furnace by MaryJanice Davidson
Darkness Calls by Caridad Pineiro

Oddly, I probably enjoyed the Firefly Companion Guide the most. I'm not a die hard fan of the television show but I found the scripts and the actor insights very interesting.

"I saw the movie of The Notebook and it made me cry. I tried to read the book and just couldn't get into it. I'm not sure why."

Jenson, I am the opposite, I read the book and cried my eyes out. Then I watched the movie and was mad at who ever it is that tried to adapted it for the movie. The book is better (in my opinion) but very different from the movie.

My book reading for November was absolutely pathetic. I managed just two books, Naked Heat and Demon Princess: Reign Check along with the first three manga from the series Two Flowers for the Dragon.

My total books (not counting manga) for the year is now 59.

I didn't do to bad for the month of November ...

136) 11/6 - Undead and Unpopular by MaryJanice Davidson (2*)
137) 11/11 - The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger (4*)
138) 11/15 - The Lovers by Eden Bradley (4*)
---) 11/16 - Wolfsbane and Mistletoe (Star of David) by Patricia Briggs (4*)
139) 11/16 - It's Now or Never by Wendy Davy (4*)
140) 11/17 - Blue Smoke by Nora Roberts (4*)
141) 11/18 - Northern Lights by Nora Roberts (4*)
142) 11/20 - No Greater Love by Danielle Steel (3*)
143) 11/24 - Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli (4*)
144) 11/25 - My Sparkling Misfortune by Laura Lond (4*)
145) 11/26 - The Cricket on the Hearth by Charles Dickens (3*)
146) 11/26 - Loving Evangeline by Linda Howard (3*)
147) 11/27 - One for the Money by Janet Evanovich (4*)
148) 11/27 - Inking Aaron by Cheryl Dragon (4*)
149) 11/30 - Wicked Appetite by Janet Evanovich (4*)

Typical of me, I mostly had 3s and 4s this month but I did through a 2 this month (that is an oddity for me). So out of all the 4's, the bestest has to go to Wicked Appetite. The supernatural, comedy of errors just hit the spot after the long holiday weekend.

Congrats on a great year Onyx! Lisa Kleypas is certainly one of my favorite romance writers generally although I haven't read her Christmas one yet.

I ended 2010 with four books in the month of December:

The Darkest Kiss by Gena Showalter
The Demon Trapper's Daughter by Jana Oliver (an ER book)
Side Jobs by Jim Butcher
The Thief of Always by Clive Barker

This brings me to 63 for the year.

Hopefully 2011 will be a better year.
