. . . And I know you have. Although I tried very hard not to ask for books this year I have been and ordered a little pile for myself and I think the one I really can't wait for is A Victorian Household: Based on the Diaries of Marion Sambourne". I'm just in the mood for a bit of Victorian social history. Great to snuggle down with Xmas afternoon.

I am looking forward to my santar's picks since normally I'm not "allowed" to buy/own books.

I hope it's not too much pressure for Santar though... I got thinking last night - what if santar got me something I've read but neglected to put in LT?? What if he/she thought I'd like something based on some crazy book I read by mistake (i.e. Geek Love)

oh, doesn't matter... santar, whoever you are - it'll be my only book(s) for Christmas so they're bound to be good.

Too many questions! Why 'Santar'? Who says you're not allowed to buy books? Such an unkind world; I hereby give you permission to buy all the books you want.

I'm excited about my santar book as well! (LT Secret Santa gift) the way things are it will be my only Bookish Christmas present!

(I buy books for myself throughout the year and don't ask for them as presents - Christmas is for other things)

I accompanied my father to the bookstore so he could purchase my x-mas gifts :D I'm looking forward to Vienna Blood by Frank Tallis and The Book of Unholy Mischief by Elle Newmark.

Just read The Book of Unholy Mischief and really enjoyed it. Another nice one to snuggle up with after dinner.

I would really like The Children's Book by A.S. Byatt, but since I've neglected to mention it to anyone, I think my chances of finding it under the tree are slim.

I always ask Santa for a book, but never specify a title. He does really well unless he brings home a Danielle Steel or a Nora Roberts. But I still read them and enjoy them for the love he puts into the choosing of them, for he is not a reader.
This year I am hoping for a Georgette-Heyer. But since I didn't mention it, I will just be expecting a surprise. Last year Santa did really well. He knows that John Steinbeck is my favorite author and he chose for me The Acts of King Arthur and His Noble Knights. I was very impressed. But I don't think he can do that two years running. That was pretty special.
Happy Reading all,
belva

Tales from Outer Suburbia is wonderful. My copy is still being passed about by my coworkers and they all fall in love.

My fingers are most tightly crossed for the Momofuku cookbook.

Any of them that I actually receive. ;) I don't know if I will in fact receive any this year.

But I am quite keen to read Out of Steppe: The Lost Peoples of Central Asia, and will be delighted if it shows up under the Christmas tree. :)

No specific titles come to mind, but I usually receive at least on bookstore Gift Card, which I then use throughout the year:))

I'm very excited to get The Whalestoe Letters by Mark Z. Danielewski, who I just started reading this past year and have found a brain-wave match with :)

Polar Obsession, a book with amazing photographs of the arctic seas and the creatures that live in them. I know my kids are getting that for me for Christmas because we just ordered it. I had a coupon for B&N.

I was at B&N with my kids, and my son was walking around with a couple of books behind his back. So I am very curious as I have absolutely no idea what they are, other than that one of them had a kind of purply-pink cover. Maybe next Christmas he will give me the complete so-far set of Fullmetal Alchemist, Japanese manga that he insisted I try, and I am now working my way through his 21 volumes. And really enjoying it, surprisingly.

I am waiting for The Kelmscott Chaucer - the collector's library version - that's the only book that I asked for from the only person that actually buys me books :)

But I went on a shopping spree and ordered a few books for myself (more than 10...) so should be receiving some books between the holidays.

I like Fullmetal Alchemist too. The anime adaptation is good too, and they've just started on a -sorta- remake of the series. When I got a tattoo, I wanted an orobous (serpent eating its own tail) for the richness of myth and history-- and there were some life connections. I enjoyed the series so much, that I chose their style of the orobous.

>19 katelisim: katelism -- it's very entertaining. Also handy, I only read one volume each night in bed, so I don't deprive myself of as much sleep...none of that "just one more chapter".
