Almost 300 posts in six! What are y'all thinking?!
And Stasia's quiz from November is cool:

What it says about you:

Homemade pizza at Stasia's house tonight. Y'all come on by!
8London_StJ
Ooo, that would have been good. I had to make due with splitting a burger and fries from Five Guys with the kiddo. ;) Can kids turn into french fries?

We were just waiting for you to come back and start a new kitchen thread.
ooh... I love homemade pizza. What toppings do you put on yours Stasia? I think the best homemade pizza I had was at an Italian friend's place. She made about 5 different thin crust pizzas, but my favorite was the one with gorgonzola and artichokes with a light tomato base.
I haven't been able to get pizza dough right, so now when I make pizza at home, I cheat and buy pizza dough from the supermarket and stretch it out thin.

#9: Caroline, I use a pizza dough flavoring that King Arthur Flour puts out in my dough and it is really good, so you might want to give it a try.
As for toppings, the girls chose: Canadian bacon with green olives on one, pepperoni and olives on the other.

Thanks for the tip, Stasia... I'll have to give it a try when I next make pizza. I love olives ..they go on almost every pizza I make or order.
Here's something I think rather odd: my husband and 3 other friends (all male) love olive oil and would, I think, if they could, not just drizzle their salads with EVOO, cook with it and dip their bread in it, but perhaps want to bathe in it as well. But they detest olives themselves. They won't eat it in its fruit form.

#11: King Arthur Flour also does an Italian flour that is especially for doing pizza and focaccia doughs. I have not tried it yet, but am going to next time I order my bread making yeast. Just thought it was worth the mention in case you decide to order the pizza dough flavoring.
No idea why someone would prefer olive oil over the olives themselves - sounds very strange to me, but then I only like green olives and cannot stand the black ones, lol.

#2, Hi Linda. Does your sheltie like the cold, snowy weather? Simon loves to sit on the deck, wind whipping his fur, nose in the air, snow flakes covering his face.
Hi Richard! So glad you decided to come on back to us.
Anita...It is always cheery when I see a post from you.
Calm...(love the name) Welcome! I'll be sure to check your thread.
Stasia...It is bitter cold here in NE PA...warm pizza sounds lovely.
Luxx..How are your babies?
Caroline..The book was sent to you yesterday..

Stasia: Oddly enough, I've had no problems making focaccia and they have so far always come out nicely.
I love all kinds of olives and olive oil. I was in Greece for a vacation some years back and I think i ate about a half a pound of black olives a day ... they were just so delicious. I especially love a good tapenade with hot crusty bread. I could make a dinner out of that and some cheese any day
Linda : Thank you so very much. I can't wait to get home.

Linda - They are doing great! Brooks loves our Christmas tree, and Max actually lets us sleep for 7 hours straight at night. I can't wait for Santa to visit our house this year - I think we'll be able to get Brooks to open his own gifts for the first time. ;)
How are you doing? Will you get to see your grandbabies again for the holidays?

#13 Hi, Linda. No, Callie isn't particularly fond of winter. She hates the wind, and when it's very cold, she dances around holding up first one foot, then the other in a very pitiful way. We actually bought her little suede booties with velcro straps to put on when the temperature dips down into the teens. If it's kind of mild, and the snow is fluffy in the yard, she does like to romp a bit and burrow her nose through it. But she's mainly all about her comfort. We've spoiled her rotten, of course, as she was a "mid-life baby". Our previous Sheltie, Bonnie, was a much hardier soul, but she was brought up with our daughter, and not pampered very much.

Olives: The most persuasve argument that there is a kindly, beneficent God who created all things. There is no other reasonable explanation for the fact that there are so many delicious things the olive can be. Next highest on that list of reasons: Apples.
King Arthur Flour's pizza-dough flavoring is very, very good. I use some garlic powder to make it more in tune with my palate, but it's really nummers. Their pizza-only flour is a godsend for those, like me and apparently cameling, who simply can't make a good pizza dough. It's worked every time. I just love their products in general.
Cold and dogs: Stella thinks cold, windy weather is the bee's knees. It was 25F last night, a stiff 20mph wind, and I trundled along wrapped in so many layers I looked like Starfish Maggie from "The Simpsons" while Stella cavorted, gamboled, and generally expressed ecstatic approval of the proceedings.
Christmas decorating to do today! Getting the new fake tree set up, moving stuff around, the wreath for the front door, etc etc. Tomorrow is the actual tree decorating. Fun fun!!

Olives . . . my mother LOVED olives. I'm another of those curious people who love olive oil and don't like olives at all . . . go figure.

I've just posted another positive review of The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane by Katherine Howe. It's scarcely necessary to say it's a popular book, what with 132 reviews already, but it's also a really, really good read for Y-chromosome-bearing individuals. Honest. If you like history even a little bit, there is something to catch you in this storyteller's work.

I enjoy olive oil and black olives, but not the green ones... my husband likes olive oil but won't touch the fruit, so... I don't get to eat Greek salad much around here, LOL.

My Italian mother instilled in me a love of many wonderful foods but at the top of the list-olives--all kinds of olives. My siblings and I would love when the holidays came around because we knew there would be a big tray with many varieties of olives and cheese.

Hey now, if I'm gaining weight, you're all gaining it with me.
I didn't bake for three years because, as I put it, Satan lived in my oven (heat varied and wasn't constant enough to compensate for). Now I have a new oven, and no hope of fitting back into my work clothes in January.

SqueakyChu, I think a member of this group, wrote the following in her Hot Review of The Story of a Marriage:
"The end of the story was both beautiful and emotional. I had to stop along the way, though, to jot down some memorable lines. I even caught myself deciding exactly how I wanted the story to end before reaching its actual conclusion. I did appreciate how the author constructed the ending, reaching into many years later to see the outcome of decisions made a long time ago."
No spoilers, no theatrics, and I HAD to add the book to my wishlist. Excellent!

I took a peek at the 2010 group and my head is already swimming. Oh dear, oh dear .... how will I catch up when the year actually starts? I definitely don't have time to go on both groups now with Christmas and New Year's Eve coming up and me with friends visiting from France amidst all the madness that comes with the holiday season.
I think I'm going to take a leaf out of tiffin's book and not have anything to do with the 2010 threads until the official start of the year .... I'll try anyway, even if it means I'll be woefully behind. Perhaps there'll be another snowstorm in the first week of Jan which will mean snow days from the office and I'll get to stay home and LT away with abandon.
Luxx : I love the pictures even if they made me crave cookies and toffee

Fun news!
My first published short story came out yesterday, in the very small (but credible!) journal Emerald Tales.
It's called 'The Sacrifice' and is about a priestess who tries to save her lover during the ancient Babylonian festival of Zagmuk.
If you're interested, you can get a copy here --> http://www.scribblersandinkspillers.com/emeraldtales.html
Scroll down to Volume One, Special Vol.3 :)
I'm VERY excited... it's my first "real" published credit... a perfect Christmas gift for me, haha. Thought I'd let you all know about it, just because I'm happy and want to share the excitement!!!

Today is my day off and I've decided to be lazy all morning. I'm not looking forward to the next two days at work where I am scheduled to be charge nurse (ward nurse) on the 24th and in the step down unit (aka the dungeon) on the 25th. Ugh!
I have made a pot of lemon tea (with honey) and maple walnut scones (with clotted cream) and I'm just slouching on the couch watching tv and catching up on threads. Once the Doctor Who Christmas special goes off I actually plan on getting up and doing stuff- baking brownies, ironing clothes, etc. I may drag out the turntable and play records I haven't listened to in awhile. Happy Holidays!

Everyone seems to be rushing off to be with loved ones. Well, this year I've decided not to travel and to just have the vacation with my husband, son, great aunt and father in law. I'll see the aunt and FIL over the vacation but not Christmas. It feels wonderful to have all the stress of traveling just vanish!

I wish I could just stay home this year for Christmas because I've just been traveling alot over the last 2 months, but I've got to head down to NY for Christmas with the in-laws and friends. Instead of battling traffic, I've decided to take the train down this year since my husband has already been down there for a week, and I look forward to a few hours of quiet reading/napping.
Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday season and I'll see you in a week's time.
