Well once again I only made it to 32 books last year (exactly the same as in 2008!).

Having not bought many books last year (I was attempting a "Year of No New Books") I have certainly made up for it since 2010 began!

Lot's on my to-read list this year including:

* Whitethorn by Bryce Courtenay (from last year's list);
* Elantris by Brandon Sanderson (also from last year's list);
* The origin of the species by Charles Darwin;
* You or someone like you by Chandler Burr;
* The plague by Albert Camus;
* A clockwork orange by Anthony Burgess;
* Dead as a doornail and Definitely dead by Charlaine Harris;
* When twilight burns and As shadows fade by Colleen Gleason;
As well as a number of books from the "Penguin Great Ideas" collection.

I am again attempting to include more classics and non-fiction in my literary diet, while leaving room to indulge my Vampire habit!

So I am in the final semester of my Diploma of Library and Information Services and one of my subjects this semester is "Promote client access to literature" in which we learn about diferent genres, reader's advisory etc. Our major assignment create a promotional annotated bibliography on an aspect of literature for a target client group in the form of a website.

My initial thought was vampire fiction for adults, but as much as I love the vampire genre I think it's a little overdone, so I decided on Books about Books, hence my recent reading has revolved around this theme.

13. The uncommon reader by Alan Bennett

14. Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury

15. Inkheart by Cornelia Funke

16. The neverending story by Michael Ende

I have read a number of books that I am going include as well and have started to collect some others - I am planning to have 3 themes around Books about Books:
* Bibliomemoirs - memoirs of books and reading;
* Lost in a good book - literally or metaphorically; and
* The destruction and rescue of books.

Are you aware of the Jasper Fforde Thursday Next series? Not only is one of the series calledLost in a good book, but the first book The Eyre affair involves 2/3 of the above themes. Just a thought (possibly a lot lighter in content than you had planned, but nevertheless an interesting aside).

Interesting list of books, I want to read most of these!

Maggotbrain -- yes The Eyre affair will definitely be in there - I read it last year.

Ariebonn -- check out my books I have tagged Books about Books - http://www.librarything.com/catalog/joyfulgirl&deepsearch=Books+about+Books

I will post my final list once I have decided on it - I am only allowed 20 books (which makes it very hard!), and in order to limit the number I have decided to exclude books whose themes are book clubs or reading groups. I know they are very popular - I have a few myself, but I had to stop somewhere. Also have made the decision to not include any picture books - although I wish I could. However I have come across some interesting titles in my research, and will hopefuly eventually put it all together - when I'm not so overwhelmed with assignments!

Yeah! just realised I have passed the number of books I read for last year's challenge and the year before (I manage 32 books in both 2009 and 2008), and we are just over halfway through this year. So I may actually make it to 50 this year!

This probably has to do with the fact I finished my course in June, and now have spare time to read (and I was doing a lot of reading of novels for my Promote Literatiure subject, this year).

However I start my library degree next year, so am not expecting to read some much when that comes around.

34. The graveyard book by Neil Gaiman

Will be travelling to Europe in August (first time overseas, I live in Sydney, Australia) with my first stop in London, after reading Her fearful symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger in last year's challenge I was intrigued by Highgate Cemetry and planned to visit while in London. This book is set in a cemetry, which closely resembles Highgate.

35. Wildthorn by Jane England
