Canonical name problems

I am not sure if this is the same problem as listed above but I just added a book by Isak Dinesen. Looked on the author page and it is Tania Blixen, one of her other names. Yet the canonical name is Dinesen and correctly entered. (Did not correct so others could see this.) Is this a bigger problem and should it go to the Bug Collectors group?

I think this is a known issue/bug, where changes to the canonical name in another version of CK get reflected on the main site.

The canonical name was changed to Blixen on the German site recently (see the history). If you click on the canonical name and then hit save again, it should probably right itself.

More correctly, it is a bug where the last entered canonical names in any language show up in all languages.

Clicked on the canonical name and saved so Dinesen is again correct in on the English site.

Possibly, someone on the German site went and fixed the canonical name so that it was back to Blixen. Check the history - it's not much use getting into an edit war.

It's back to Isak Dinesen. EveleenM changed it. But of course it's inevitable that it will be changed again. Books of Isak Dinesen were published in Germany under the name Tania Blixen, so it's perfectly reasonable for someone on the German site to enter this as the cononical name. There are also languages in which Karen Blixen is considered to be the canonical name.

The same thing happens with Greek and Latin authors. Almost every language has its own versions of their names. You have e.g. Homer, Homère, Homero, Homeros and many others. (The four versions I mentioned were all entered as canonical names on various language sites.)

#7, yes, I was looking at the history, and then automatically clicked save rather than cancel.

If only one canonical name applies at a time, across all the language sites, I'm surprised there haven't been more complaints!

At the moment, Shakespeare is coming up as "William Szekspir", which is apparently the Polish version. (I've left it because it doesn't really bother me. Anyway it's as good a way as any to spell Shakespeare.)

It seems that a language modifier should be implemented here.

Language modifiers are missing also at characters, places etc. Example:
English: Places: Hesse, Germany
Dutch: Places: Hessen, Duitsland

or the LT language codes eng, dut, ger etc.
