Description

This Puritan classic, first published in the late seventeenth century, sets forth the biblical teaching of God and his interaction in our lives. No detail is too small or insignificant for God; he is there, working out "all things for good." And in that promise, every believer can take comfort that God truly has a purpose for every single person and will unfold his plan, which includes every detail in our daily lives. Chapter topics include proofs of a special providence; the operations of show more providence; the duty of reflecting on the operations of providence; directions for reflecting on the dispensations of providence; motives to a due observance of providence; and the practicality of providence. show less

A very fine book. Flavel writes with great persuasion and passion on the importance of this often forgotten doctrine. For the believer, a knowledge and trust in God’s providence provides ballast and stability to the soul during peaceful times and turbulent ones. If sovereignty is God’s dominion, rule, and right of power, providence is his wisdom, plans, and wise purposes worked out. He orders and carries out all things.

In today’s anxious age, trusting in God’s providential care is a timely remedy.
A collection of powerful sermons on the theme of Providence. It is a very helpful (and readable) treatment of an important topic. The gems in it cannot be fully explored in just one reading. Be ready to have it with you throughout your christian pilgrimage.
One of the best books I have read for living the Christian life. Read this for men's reading group.

Flavel begins by naming his audience, saying that he writes to proefssed Christians who “do in the meantime live like atheists, and both think and act as if there were” no God or Providence. His goal is first to show us God’s providences in Scripture, in history, and in our own lives. Then, second, to encourage all Christians to store up memories of God’s providences for encouragement in times of doubt or despair.
