Basically a private detective novel set in the time of Commodus in Roman Britain. Libertus (cleverly named) is a pavement maker whose patron involves him in a murder investigation. Not bad (and there was a nice twist at the end), but not as engaging as some other series I enjoy. I may give the next one a chance at some point.
