I remember when these shared world anthologies were all the rage in the 80s and 90s. I always liked the original novel by Cherryh (Angel With the Sword), and the setting city of Merovinen, which is a lot like Venice. But I was never able to find the associated anthologies until recently.
A lot of these authors are the same ones who contributed to the Thieves' World series. I liked most of the stories, and Cherryh's interstitial scenes between each one. But no one comes close to the original character of Altair Jones.

This is the first of the shared world anthologies following the initial Angel With A Sword, featuring stories by: Lynn Abbey, Nancy Asire, Robert Asprin, C. J. Cherryh, Leslie Fish, Mercedes Lackey, Chris Morris and Janet Morris.
