I stalled on this over and over again, somewhere in the first lecture, and then suddenly, I was launched. It has been fascinating. It turns out that I must have read about twenty children's histories and historical novels about the Persian Wars, but these books historicized the wars, while Herodotus mythologized them. The lectures are quite easy and approachable. I would happily try something else by Vandiver. ( )
