What's disguised are the beastly situations that lurk in the background for the family characters in this novel. The writer has produced a story that is memorable (i.e. remains with the reader afterwards).
Elizabeth Howard is a champion writer in my view, one with her finger on family dynamics. She shows a keen understanding of how destructive are the deeply held views we might hold about ourselves, the illusions we have about how others should act, all contributing to massive misunderstandings and, in this novel, drastic and bad outcomes.
Well worth the reading.
Niet uitgelezen. Het begon wel aardig maar ellenlange beschrijvingen gingen me de keel uit hangen.
