The Dauntless Miss Wingrave by Amanda Scott was a very interesting read. I’m not sure how I would categorize this novel, because I loved the story itself but I hated the main character, Emily Wingrave. As the title says she is definitely dauntless. In common terms, she comes off as quite the bitch. This is technically a romance, but you don’t get a whole lot of romance until at least the end of the novel.
Emily Wingrave gets a mysterious letter from her sister, Sabrina, who has been recently widowed. Her late husband left her, her family, and her estate into the hands of the hard-headed and arrogant Earl of Meridan, Jack. From the moment Miss Wingrave arrives, her and Jack clash at every turn about every little thing. Miss Wingrave show more comes across as knowing everything even though she is only twenty-one years old. While she is there trying to help her sister deal with the Earl, several mysteries occur involving all the children. Some jewelry has gone missing and the servants have all been blamed. With that, all the children seem to be having a hard time adjusting to life after their father’s death. With Jack and Emily ever stop fighting and work together? Who stole the jewelry and why?
Once you get passed Miss Wingrave’s attitude, you get really sucked into the story and can’t put it down. This story takes place in England during the time of Earls and Ladys. I would recommend this novel to romance fanatics and people that like strong female characters. show less
