When this book was first published in 1956, John Somerville was at the midpoint of his long life as a scholar-activist and noted educator. Before he was called as an expert non-Communist witness in the federal court to give testimony on the teachings and doctrines of Marxism-Leninism, Dr. Somerville had responded to the invitations of scholarly show more institutions and international philosophical congresses to present his findings and observations about these disputed matters.
