Description
A biography of Rosa Luxemburg, co-founder of the first Polish Narxist worker's party. A dynamic public figure, she was a powerful revolutionary, and a renowned theorist and speaker. This is a compassionate portrayal of her private life, capturing the bravery and brilliance, the doubts and the torments, of someone who challenged every rule and convention of her time: as a Polish woman and a Jew. Her death is still a mystery.Tags

This seems, to me, to be a very honest biography. Too often, a biography is written by someone wishing to lionise, or destroy their subject. Rosa comes out of this book as a human being: some great acts and some less worthy of praise.
Rosa Luxemburg's reading of Communism fascinates me. She fought Lenin for the right of the people to hold, and voice, opinions at odds with the party's. How different the Russian Revolution would have been were her views to have prevailed.
I would hold Luxemburg to be one of the most important voices of the left in the 20th century and, I have yet to find a greater one in the 21st.
