"We're Making Breakfast for Mother" is a playful rhyming book with what seems to be a Mothers' Day theme. I like that it used pictures in the place of words so that younger readers have the opportunity to be a part of the reading process when someone is reading the book to them. In the story, the family is preparing a breakfast for their mother. It doesn't say it until the end but the pictures show how this kind act is turning into a disaster. The cute ending shows the mom saving the day, yet again, and the family going out to eat to celebrate. I really did like this book because it also shows a lot about family. The whole family worked together to make breakfast for their mother on Mother's Day. Even though things did not turn out as planned, their mother was still very happy because of the effort they made. I would read this to a class because it shows more about different families. In this patterned text that reads like "The House that Jack Built," the children make a breakfast for their mother that looks delicious and wonderful until they try to deliver it. Cute and catchy, kids will want to read along as the story builds. This would be a good book to use for writing lists around Mother's Day. Students or the class could write their own version of the tale - for breakfast, lunch, or just helping around the house! no reviews | add a review
